I have mentioned Ibotta a bunch of times and the coupons from Ibotta seem to come up all the time in my store matchup lists. I wanted to mention it again because they are offering a free $5 bonus to new accounts. This $5 bonus offer will end on Friday 1/11.
Ibotta is an app with coupons that are redeemed from Apple products (iPhone, iPod etc..) or Android devices. You can use them in conjunction with a regular coupon so it makes for a lot of fantastic deals.
You will actually pay the price out of your pocket and once you purchase the item you are refunded back the entire coupon value.
So for example, Target has Chapstick Green Apple Moisturizing variety for $.84. I would pay $.84 out of pocket for it (or less if I had a coupon) and then there is a $1 Ibotta coupon available. So after I bought the product, I would submit for the Ibotta coupon and get a refund of $1.
Once you have $5 in your account you can donate the money to charity, a local school or get it cashed out via Paypal. I already cashed out once with Ibotta and it went to my paypal immediately.
The nice thing is that in addition to great coupons, they are offering a $5 bonus for registering here. (Do not go direct to the app store on your phone or you won’t get the bonus.)
Once you redeem your first offer- like the Chapstick one I listed above- you will get that fiver into your account.
Super easy!
I wanted to mention this again because the free $5 bonus is ending on Friday. So if you haven’t registered it seriously takes about 5 minutes and you might consider doing it now.
- Just register here for Ibotta.
- Go to your phone log in and you should see the offers available. There are several pages so be sure to scroll over to see them all.
You will need to do your first offer before 1/17 to get the bonus. Once you do your first offer you get the $5 into your account.
**You can get step by step directions as to how the app works here.

How often does Ibotta add new products? They have been adding more stores lately but I haven’t seen new products added.
Charlene says
Really? I keep getting new offers all the time. My Special K one changed today and they added a cracker one for me. I think some people got Capri Sun but I didn’t get that one.

I signed up in mid December and have 55 offers. I completed some offers (looked at ad). I have not bought any of the items (for example I completed offer for cough medicine but have not bought any because no need). Do you get more offers if you do thumbs up or down for products? I am waiting for them to add more products that I do buy but have seen no additions. Because of this, I don’t feel encouraged to come back and check for more offers, and am considering uninstalling the app.

Can you get the money out of the pay pal account or do you have to use it to buy something? I can’t seem to figure out how to get it into my checking account.
Suki says
It says on the website you get $5 for referring a friend and if they actually do sign up you will get the bonus. Am I reading it wrong?
Charlene says
Cathy, you had 55 offers and not one of them appealed to you? I thought there was a spot under profile to customize if you aren’t seeing offers for products you like. You might click the help center and see if they have something about that.
Charlene says
Suki,
You mean you want to refer a friend and instead of the friend getting $5, you want to take the $5 for yourself? I am not really sure about that. I think there is a help center that you can click on and maybe there is more information.
Charlene says
Maureen, I think you can transfer it. There is a transfer button to click on under withdraw and then you need to set up your bank info and it looks like you just transfer it in.

Just wanted to say I looove this app. Reminds me of rebates (my fave thing), but so much quicker and somehow funner. I did a Safeway and Target outing yesterday, and submitted my receipts while I filled up with gas. Money was credited before I got home!
cathy says
Suki, Ibotta will pay you $1 for every friend who signs up using your referral link.
Charlene, I buy cereal like Quaker and Kashi but not Kelloggs cereal. I buy crackers but rarely Nabisco. I buy big pack of toilet paper a few times a year but am stocked up now. I don’t buy much soda. Other products I may purchase in future (bbq sauce, orange juice) but have not so far.
You can list all offers, refresh offers or look at categories. There isn’t a place to say your preferred categories or preferred brands, or to make suggestions. I sent a message on website to ask when adding more products.
Maureen Miller says
Thanks, Charlene, I love your site!

Is the Ibotta app only available for I phone,Ipad, ect. my phone is a windows smartphone??
Melissa says
Anyone have any problems using an iphone 5? I have tried submitting 3 times and it gets rejected because the pictures do no show up after they are taken and uploaded? I tried the recommend reboot as ibotta suggested, but it didn’t work. 🙁

I wonder if the size of your images is too large for Ibotta. Is there a way to take smaller resolution photos (5 Meg instead of 8 Meg) of your receipt?
Charlene [email protected] replied:
What you can do is go into the product details for any product offer, here you can “thumbs up” or ” thumbs down” the product. The app will learn over time and start to remove products you do not like and keep the products longer that you do like. Doing this you will start to see more product offers enter your app. I hope this was helpful, and please let us know if there is any other questions or concerns that you may have.
Charlene says
Ok good- I hope that works out better! I don’t buy a lot of the items they feature either but there are some I do like the Simply products are my favorite.
Emily says
Thank you! I am looking forward to trying out this process. I’ve already found some sale items starting soon to try it on at my local grocery store! And will hopefully make it to Target for that wicked good chapstick deal!
