Homemade Banana "Ice Cream" Recipe

If you are looking for something healthy that is going to taste pretty indulgent- I really hope you give this recipe a shot.

The best part is this will take you like 2 minutes to put together.

Simply slice bananas into 1-2 inch slices.  Place them in a freezer container or bag.  Freeze for about 3 hours or more.

Once they are nicely frozen, take them out and place inside a food processor. Puree until smooth.

You get a weird texture at first but just keep pureeing and it winds up being super creamy.

Now all the hard work is done and you can dig in!

So one ingredient and just a few seconds and you have this chilled, creamy banana treat that I thought was delicious.  It isn’t going to put Ben & Jerry’s out of business but then again you don’t have to spend hours at the gym after eating this.

Now you can jazz this up a bit by adding other frozen fruits, honey, peanut butter, chocolate (I think adding chocolate chips would be a good texture and sort of Chunky Monkey-ish).

One important note is that you want to eat this super cold.  It melts pretty darn fast so get those spoons and toppings all ready to go.

I was feeling indulgent so I actually made a DIY chocolate shell that I dipped cones into.  I topped with this banana mixture and my girls were in heaven!

To make magic shell- the hard chocolate stuff you can put on ice cream- takes just a few seconds and 2 ingredients.

Mix 1 1/3 cup chocolate chips with 3 tablespoons coconut oil.

Pop in microwave for about 30 seconds.  Take it out and stir well.

Pop back in microwave for another 15 seconds.

Mix again and set aside- it should be a nice creamy chocolate sauce.  Go ahead and drizzle it on ice cream and it hardens right up.  You can also dip cones inside the chocolate and I just popped them in the freezer for a few minutes to get the chocolate to set.

And we had a really delicious treat for a super warm day.

Definitely want to try! I’m looking for ways to use up overripe bananas …. Do you think it’ll work?

That sounds delicious. I was looking at Amazon a couple of weeks ago for ice cream makers, and saw a product called the Yonanas Ice Cream Treat Maker which turns fruit and bananas into an ice cream texture. It sounds like you get very similar results with a food processor!

    Jane,

I would try that before you buy something. You can see from the slightly melty cone at the bottom it really took about 60 minutes and I got a perfect creamy texture.

I do this as well but I add just a little really cold coconut milk. I’ve never made magic shell I’m for sure going to try that.

    Lori,

You’ll have to come back and say what you thought :). It surely isn’t Ben and Jerry;s but I was pleasantly surprised.

Just FYI, we have the Yonanas maker. It works really well. Bananas are always your base but you can have add ins like berries or melon as well. Would imagine it would work the same in food processor.
Jane – I don’t know how much they are on Amazon but we got our at Bed, bath & beyond with the 20% off coupon.

That magic shell topping is great on banana slices as well. Just dip and freeze.

    Charlene,
We did make the banana ice-cream for dessert. I loved it and so did my kids! 🙂 We just sprinkled chocolate chips on top. Will definitely do it again. Might have to get a better food processor though, part of mine broke while making this. 🙂
