Groupon is offering discounted subscriptions to the Sacramento Bee today. You have 3 choices:
- For $13, you get a 13-week subscription (a $45.50 total value).
- For $26, you get a 26-week subscription (a $91 total value).
- For $52, you get a 52-week subscription (a $182 total value).
This says there is a limit of 3 per person and you can buy 5 as gifts. It also says this is for new subscriptions only. I have always had subscriptions to the Bee myself and I was shocked to find recently the cover price is now $2.00 per paper (STINK!)
So unless I am reading this incorrectly, this works out to $1 per paper delivered which seems extremely high to me. My Sunday only subscriptions were all $20 for a year to the Bee.
You can head over to Groupon to have a look and just select Sacramento. You might also check out the Discounted Newspaper Subscriptions available.
There are papers available in ID, UT, NV and CA for as low as $.19 per Sunday paper which is a much better deal. The Bee specifically is significantly cheaper.

Charlene, is yours Sundays only though for $20 and this is every day of the week? Forgive me, I didn’t look at the specifics of the Groupon deal.
I just looked at the Groupon – it’s for Friday through Sunday delivery, which makes each paper $0.33 according to my math. The Sunday only deal for $20 is still the best deal around, but if you wanted your paper all weekend this isn’t a terrible deal. Have you had any trouble renewing your paper at $20/year for Sundays only? Because I was under the impression it was for new subscriptions only. I got a pretty decent rate for every day service starting last September and that renewal is slowly creeping up on me so I need to start thinking about what I am going to do. 🙂
Thank you so much for posting this, Charlene! I really appreciate all that you do to help us save money!!
Tiffany, Ok that is better if you actually read the paper 😀 I had such a massive hassle the last time I tried to renew at $20 by calling the Bee directly. I am going to do the other offer for 2 more papers just so I don’t have to deal with it again.
Do they mail out of state??
Emilee- I can’t imagine it would be cost effective to have a newspaper mailed to another state. I am sure the shipping charges would be considerable.
Tiffany I get the Sac Bee as well for $20/yr ($19.99) it’s Fri/Sat/Sun. I don’t read the paper so no use in them delivering it M-Th
The absolute cheapest you can get the paper, if all you are looking for is the coupons, is $1.25 here outside of Dallas. They don’t deliver just the Sunday paper, and it is more than $1.25 to get the paper every day. We just stop at the newstand each week and get two papers. If people are getting subscriptions for .19 apiece, now I understand how they can afford 10 subscriptions and it is still cost effective! I hate having to pay for coupons, and our paper has pretty terrible ones at that. They also offer the Dallas paper which has some better coupons, but the cheapest you can find that is $5 for a double issue. If you happen upon any deals for Dallas, I would certainly be interested!
This is for the Sacramento area readers – I ventured into Wise Buys at Greenback and Arcadia for the 1st time this weekend and in their entry they had their Sacramento Bee kiosk. It said you can buy the Sunday Sacramento Bee for either $0.98 or $1 (my brain is failing me right now), but either way half the cost of the regular Sunday paper! So if you have a Wise Buys you might want to look into that. I only get one subscription, which seems to suit me just fine for most weeks, but on the occasional ‘great coupon’ week I might pick up a few extras there.
Oh and on a side note, I found bags of off label “Honey Nut Cheerios” and “Frosted Mini Wheats” there for $0.98/bag! They were near their expiration date of mid-August, but I grabbed enough for us to eat before they expired!!!
