Hi, Just discovered your site today and instantly “liked” you on FB. Thanks so much for all your work and info. I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I have a Walgreens Register Rewards question. I read the Walgreens coupon policy and I’m a bit confused. Are you able to use multiple Register Rewards on one item, like at Rite Aid with the Up Rewards? At Rite Aid I had 4 Up rewards totaling $10, I purchased one item for $10.99 and only paid 99cents plus tax. Is Walgreens the same way? Again, Thanks for all that you do and all your help. It is truly appreciated!
Beckysays
In my store, the coupon booklets are found on the stand that holds the ads inside the front door.
Charlenesays
Carmela- Walgreens is much more complicated than the other stores. If you click on Drugstore 101 at the top of the blog you can get the full scoop but essentially you need 1 item for each coupon you use and that includes RR. So if you have 4 RR you need a total of 4 items. If you want to use coupons on top of that you need an item for each of those coupons 🙁

On the deal where you Buy 2 Cottonelle 12pks at $5.00 each; should we get 3RR for each pack we buy?

my store, which is a great one(normally allowing me to do multiple transactions and helping me have lowest oop I can), is refusing to manufacturer coupons first because they state that they have recently had a meeting wtih corporate stating that because of the show “Extreme Couponing” some of these practices are considered coupon fraud. I was frustrated because I’m not trying to clear shelves or do anything illegal. I hope I can get the Tylenol deal to work. These cashiers are really freaked out about getting in trouble.
Charlenesays
Cherali- yes it is but remember you need to buy them one at a time and then you can not use that RR to buy more… So it can be a real headache. If you aren’t that familiar with Walgreens, you might check the drugstore 101 tab at the top of the blog.

Anyone else use RR’s to buy newspapers? They don’t say they are excluded on either the RR or the coupon policy. Have been doing this for months w/o issue but yest. was told no. Called Corp. & was told by original rep that it was allowed but that he’d send it on to a mngr. Mngr calls back & says, “I don’t think this should be happening b/c it does say not limited to items listed & excludes items prohibited by law so I will contact my other managers & let them know this should not be happening. It is prohibited under the “& other things prohibited by law” clause.” Really? I said I had been doing it for months at different stores w/o issue & have heard of others using them for the same thing w/o problem. Told him I use my ECB’s at CVS for the same thing w/o problem as well. He then back tracked & said, “well, I will have to look into it further b/c maybe there is something I don’t know, but I do not think it should be allowed.”
Does anyone know the official ruling on this? On WUC I’m finding lots of others who buy papers w/them as well w/o issue. I did find one other person who got told no yesterday as well. Is that a new policy or a “new, old” policy that just hadn’t been followed? I don’t want to misuse the q’s & have no problem abiding with the policy if it is indeed the policy but I do have issue if random people are just making up the rules as they go along. Any further action I should take or should I just wait for this guy to call back again w/a ruling & then go from there? I would just like to find out what the official policy is. Why do stores have to make things so darn cryptic & frustrating. Why can’t they just be straightforward? I did go to CVS & the manager took my ECB’s for the newspapers w/a smile & a “thank you.”

@ Heather, I’m in Illinois and my RP didn’t have the Right Guard or the Dry Idea coupons in it. I got Old Spice B1G1F coupon and Gillette B1G1F coupon. I also got Old Spice body wash $1off 1. Walgreens has Old Spice and Gillette body wash on sale buy 1 get 1 50%off. I was wondering if you it’s possible to use the B1G1F coupon and get the full price bottle FREE and then use the $1/1 on the 50% off bottle making it something a better deal since I didn’t get to do the Right Guard for free? Charlene, if this is possible, how would you go about doing this so it would work? I have a feeling they will say the system won’t let them do it the way I want or something of that nature.

I’m in the East Bay, CA & the shelf tag of Right Guard Bodywash says $4.99 bogo free. My manu coupon for bogo free from the 5/1 insert has fine print saying “up to $4.49” — there’s a potential problematic gap of 50 cents. I didn’t want to take the chance of having to pay (!) for bodywash, so I will pass on this. Gonna save this coupon for another sale or store. Wags + coupon uncertainty = not good.

The show Extreme Couponing is just bad news for most of us. One show exposed how a shopper cheated and used the right brand/wrong product coupon so now I’m seeing so much more coupon scrutiny especially at Acme. I have seen unprecedent number of new couponers. The savings shown on the show are “extreme” and I haven’t heard any positive comments from people who watched it. Most of them have told me that those people who be on another reality show “Hoarders”. I use coupons for my personal shopper business and what I do is actually helping a lot of people in my town. I can get them items at 50 to 75% off retail price and in these hard economic times, it is a service that is really needed for a lot of people. I actually hate the show Extreme Couponing.

If the shelves are clear, it really doesn’t mean someone cleared it out. Stores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid have very little stock and sometimes the items are not even stocked. I know a lot of coupon shoppers who get so angry because the product offering RR, ECB or UPR’s are not there for them. Couponing is not a right, it is first come, first serve. One thing that managers really hate is coupon shoppers who whine that the product is not there. I know a lot of the managers at the different stores in my area and those same people who complain to them about the items being gone are the ones who clear the shelves when the items are there.

Re. Extreme Couponing. I haven’t seen it, but I keep wondering if this sort of misuse/hoarding/hogging of coupons and product will end up backfiring. Either these products are produced incredibly cheaply or the companies are going to be taking losses. I suppose they limit the number of coupons, but coupons mean the manufacturer is paying the store and/or the store (like with Target coupons) is giving an extra little sale price to observant customers. I think they are hoping to achieve brand loyalty, but if they pull the coupons, will people still buy the items? I know I wouldn’t buy the quantities. I just can’t figure out how the math will work out to have companies keep giving away products (basically). Unless, the people who pay full-price (which in the case of something like cereal is astronomically high!) make the average ok for the profit margin?
Just wondering!

@Jenn, I’ve always used my RR or whatever rewards from different stores to buy papers, but with other things as well. One question I had when I saw your comment was, did you try to buy just the paper or was there anything else? Did the cashier just look at the paper and say you couldn’t do it? The reason I ask is, that since there is tax on a paper it may beep because you can’t use a RR to pay tax and would need something else to cover, in my case the $0.08 for tax. Just a thought. Otherwise, I have no idea and the issue has never come up in the years that i’ve done it.
