There is a nice little deal running right now at Walgreens. I suspect this will be like the Fruity Pebbles deal- most stores will get wiped out of inventory pretty darn fast.
Here is the deal:
80ct boxes of Splenda with Fiber are priced at $2.99
There is a catalina offer running through 5/15:
Buy 2 Spenda and Get $3.00
Buy 3 Spenda and Get $4.00
So here are two deal ideas:
Buy 3 boxes at $2.99
Use (3) $3/1 coupons from 4/17 SS
Final Price: 0 and get a $4.00 Register Reward back!
In theory, Walgreens is supposed to adjust the coupons down if they are over the value of the product (in this case by .01). In reality, most stores won’t actually follow the Walgreens coupon policy and they will simply refuse that last $3.00 off coupon. If you have a difficult store, try this:
Buy 3 boxes at $2.99
Use (2) $3/1 coupons from 4/17 SS
and use $2/1 printable coupon
Final price: $.99 and get a $4.00 Register Reward back!
So either way a great deal- make sure to grab the 80ct box of Splenda with fiber and be sure to let me know how it works out for you!

(Thanks Mashup Mom)

So if you don’t want to go to Walgreens- there are a ton of other options that might also work out!

Is this for all Walgreens or a regional thing?
Tiffany it should be available nationwide.
I purchased 4 splenda at Giant Eagle today (3.33 each and used 4 $3 coupons).
And, I got a 4 catalina. Didn’t know about the catalina deal beforehand.
Kristen- I was going to check this at Safeway. I bet it is running at a ton of stores!
I just tried this…and they said that they couldn’t take the coupons because the item was marked $2.99 and the coupon was for $3.00.
the assistant manager told me that the manager told her they were NOT aloud to adjust the coupons down.
I pulled out my coupon policy and asked her to explain it to me so I understand, and she said that the coupon policy online was for walgreens store coupons.
What I don’t understand is how Visine will work $2 off a $1.99 product but others won’t…and they don’t care to learn/figure out why.
Is there somewhere I can report or complain that this Walgreens isn’t following company policy?…or are they individually owned and don’t have to bother.
Nicole- first let me tell you how the registers usually work so you understand why I posted the second scenario. They will beep once the total value of the coupons exceeds the purchase price. So if you buy 3 items at $.99 and have 3 $1 coupons, only the third coupon will beep because that is when you exceeded the value. If you have 3 items at .99 and have a $2.50/1 coupon there will be no beeps. If you only bought 2 items at $.99 and had a $2.50 coupon there would be a beep. Does that make sense? So with stores that just decide to be horrible it can be much easier to simply pay a little more because usually the cashier will scan and allow coupons if they don’t beep.
As far as complaining- I tried to complain for 2 years at Walgreens and each and every time I was directed right back to my store. I never once had any success with them- even the occasion when I was called a shoplifter for using a total of 2 Pampers coupons on 2 packs of Pampers. I think you can complain and then they will have the manager of the store get back to you and then you can try asking for that person’s supervisor and so on until someone that has sense gets on the phone.
Thanks Charlene!
I can’t believe they called you a shoplifter, that’s insane…you’re just a smart shopper.
The manager never even came to the front, and I guess that’s what frustrates me most. That they can set the rules that don’t match corporate rules.
the assistant manager said that some coupons don’t work, because they won’t get reimbursed for the value of the coupon…but that didn’t make sense either.
I appreciate your breakdown.
Crazy how it takes someone that doesn’t even work for the company to make sense of it.
does anyone know the price at Raleys or safeway?
ok, so if I get a catalina from some other grocery store can I also use it at Walmart? Thanks!
Oh my goodness! I am SOOO glad to see this! I unknowingly went in to Walgreens this morning and saw the 2.99 sale for the splenda and was SO suprised as I knew that we had the $3.00 off coupon yesterday. I took 5 up to the register and 5 coupons (I had NO ides about the catalina) along with other items as to help with any overage. As you say, 4 coupons went through the fifth did not. I kindly reminded the store of their policy in which the manager told me he would NOT allow it to be done becuase it was on sale. Apparently, “sale” items are exempt to the policy?? I called corporate right there at the cosmetic counter…corporate tells me yes you may use the coupon then talks to the manager who convinces them that theyCANNOT use them on sale items. Ugh. I kindly ask the cashier to take one off and proceed to pay. I was THRILLED when the $4 RR printed! All in all…they paid me to take 4 splenda out of their store! 🙂 Wish I could figure out any way to get clarity of their policy though. :-/
Just curious how you know about the other stores? I didn’t see this under http://www.couponnetwork.com/yourbucks-catalina-coupons
Fethiye it was listed there for me.
No Meryl. The vast, vast, vast majority of Walmart stores will not accept catalina coupons or Register Rewards. If you mean a catalina for a specific item that is manufacturer- like $1 off Revlon or something you can use it at Walmart. You can not use something like Get $2 off your next transaction.
Some stores will but 99 of 100 people will get shot down. You can always ask just to be sure.
Well there that alone shows you they are dummies. Of course they get reimbursed for the coupon. As long as you aren’t setting up a copy machine in your garage and photocopying coupons they will be reimbursed the full value plus .08 for their trouble. So they made a .09 profit off each of your coupons.
CC- the price online for Sfwy says $6.99 but I THINK this is for any Spenda item so it could be better. I’d love if we could keep a running list of prices at various stores here. I’d much rather have a Safeway cat than Walgreens for sure.
Ooo thanks! I popped out and did this one (the no beep 3rd option of course). There were only six boxes at my store so one other lucky person will get the deal!
Ooops i mean 2nd option!
Thanks Charlene- I was in shock as I somehow missed all of the ‘new new’ Walmart coupon policy and only saw the one where Walmart WOULD take RR.
Anyhow, at another blog someone made the following comment-
“Just to let you know I emailed Walmart Coporate and asked about them taking register rewards from Wags ( I also attached a copy of one) and they emailed me back saying their general policy is to take a manufactor coupon with a valid expiration, remitt adress, and scanable bar code. RR have all that.
I asked for clarification because that is how I read it as well and the confirmed it with email, however said it is up to a salaried manager to not accept.”
I’m still confused but totally bummed as I had this terrific strategy of working deals at Wags for RR to use at Walmart! I am going to try using a RR at my local Walmart in the next couple of days and will let you know if I am successful!
Meryl- we went through this awhile back. Everyone was all hopped up on Walmart accepting RR but I knew they would not. I knew they wouldn’t because I went through this identical situation with Safeway awhile back.
http://myfrugaladventures.com/2011/03/new-walmart-coupon-policy-again/
so sad, me!!! Oh, well- like I said, somehow missed the 2nd go round with the Wags’ RR- major bummer!! Thanks Charlene. I still feel like Walmart offers us the best deals without having to scour the county looking for a Wags that still has any product left on their shelves!! Cannot find a free Peep anywhere today!
I got mine thanks so much for the tip. I only had 5 coupons so I did two separate orders and got them all no problem. The register did peep on the third box and the cashier manually put it in. I got two catalinas back one for $4.00 on the first order and $3.00 on the second one. So I got 5 boxes free and got payed to take them and made a extra $2.00 cash as well.
so would a good solution to the exceeding value coupon issue be to buy 1 more than you actually need. say take 4 boxes to the register, let them ring 4 of them, then hand over 3 coupons, then have them remove 1 of the items, and then you get the full amount off.
Wish I had known this deal was going on at other stores. I had a situation similar to nicolecat’s. Eventually, the manager pushed it through, but it was such an ordeal that I will NOT be back to do the deal at Wags. Way too much headache.
Rite Aid, dont have Catalina printer, sb knows if they give as +up rewards???
Jose- right a +Up.
Well they were long gone by the time I got to two. Checked rite aid getting lysols and they were gone too. They had it for 75% off from 5$ something. Less then dollar 25. So different strategy on that one if you can find one to buy. I’m probably giving up on this since I’ll use more gas to find one 🙂
Will a small filler item allow me to buy 3 Splendas with 3 ($3 off) coupons without triggering the register to beep?
Nicole- you can try that. I have found the issue isn’t the value of the coupons it is more the items attached to the coupons. So you would need a Splenda filler since the coupons need to attach to a Splenda item. But try it and see what happens. Worst case you take that last $3 coupon back and give them the $2 instead and you are out a dime for the filler.
I just check 2 Walgreens, and they are 5.49 each the 100 count pack, they don’t sell the 80 count overhere, I’m in the SF bay area.
Any ideas where i can make a good deal?
walgreens has been out of splenda… maybe i will look in tmw but i just got 3 boxes of them at rite aid at clearance for 1/2 off from 5.69 at foothill. (like i posted earlier at the pleasant grove ra, it was 75% off) however i didn’t get any up+ or anything. but i’m happy with free! and also grabbed the donation coupon and got a socks free for a dollar for 6 coupons. i was only paying 75 cents for 3 x splenda, 4 x kotex liners so $1.83 with the tax on the socks altogether! 🙂
