Well this week I had two missions with shopping- one was to expand my horizons beyond Safeway. The second is to really focus on moving toward more organic products. We are not jumping off the high dive into the water but sort of slowly wading in little by little. We just watched Food, Inc and man that makes you start to really think.
Anyhoo, here is what I did:
NUGGET MARKET: $35.61 (for those of you not in Nor CA this is a fancier store, sort of like Whole Foods.)
2 jars Mezzetta artichokes .99- used .50/1 from All You Feb= $1.49 for both
2 cans Muir Glen organic Tomatoes $1.50 each- used $1/2 coupon= $1 each

2 bags carrots .97 each
2 Tillamook Cheese $5.99 per brick

2 Organic Chicken Broth $1 each
1 Yotoddler yogurt- used $1 store coupon and $1 manufacturer coupon= $.99 (we already started eating these)
Oh and I did stop off at Petsmart and got (7) bags of dog food. I only got (1) of the Lite flavor and the other flavors my store had an ample supply. Each bag was $5 and I used $27 in coupons. My total was about $11 with tax.
So the total this week (not including dog food) was $63.83. I only spent $36 last week so that worked out Ok. I know lots of you with fantastic grocery stores like Kroger and Publix probably cleaned up this week but I guess it goes to show you can still eat well on a budget without double coupons and when you only have access to premium stores.

You did great! Raleys was a boon for me this week, too. Saved $49! Spent $26, but the checker just couldn’t get over the $49 savings 😉
Where did the coconut milk MQ’s come from?

Thanks…never read that post because it was Whole Foods….hope I can find it on sale somewhere.
Great job! Too bad my Whole Foods store wouldn’t allow me to use a store Q and an MQ. I thought $1 was still pretty good, so I only got 1.
We are also going more organic. We are cutting out high fructose corn syrup as well. If you read “Master Your Metabolism” by Jillian Michaels you will be even more amazed. This has been a hit to our food budget, but it feels so good knowing we are putting good food into our bodies.
Food Inc will definitely change you. We watched it about a year ago and we will never eat the same again…ever!
Okay, girl….so you have to let me know how you like those cheese puffs. If you don’t like them, you can send them to me! 😉
And that chicken broth was a fantastic deal. A friend was down in Roseville and called me and told me about it. I had her pick up 10 boxes for me. (don’t worry…TONS left)
We started eating them already. In fact the bag is open in that picture 😛 They are pretty good! The puffs are better for braces anyway. The bag I had only had a super faint taste of blue cheese so the girls really liked them.
There was a mountain of chicken broth. Now that I found coupons I might go back. .50 is just amazing.
Food Inc. – YEA! It really did change our opinions on buying and eating more organics. I am very impressed with your shopping trips! You got a lot of great things for super cheap. I wish Whole Foods were closer but I might have to trek over for the broth and coconut milk. 🙂
I’ve always watched what we eat, but my hubby’s finally convinced since he watched that film last month. I’ll tell you what, I don’t have a green thumb by any means, but I grew zucchini and roma tomatoes last year and it was SOOOO simple! I started them from seed in my windowsill, and planted them outside when I was in early labor with my baby and we had baskets full of tomatoes.
We made salsa, tomato sauce, fajitas, etc. It felt GREAT knowing they were organic and that I paid just a few cents for the seeds that grew them. Even if you don’t have much space (we rent and it’s a TINY backyard), or if you think you’ll fail, try putting a plant somewhere in your yard. It was so satisfying!
