Special K Moneymaker at Rite Aid

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

I mentioned this in the weekly matchups for Rite Aid but in case you missed it, reader Danielle confirmed that she did indeed receive an extra $1 +Up per box of Special K cereal today at Rite Aid.

The cereal is on sale Buy One Get One Free this week and there is a Buy One Get One Free printable coupon that you can use to get 2 boxes for free.  In addition, there is a $1 +Up that is printing on food items this month- so not only is the cereal free but you should also get a $1 +Up per box.

Here are a few notes about this deal:

1. Rite Aid does allow for using a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale specifically in the coupon policy.  Some stores can be difficult about this- so you might have a bit of a fight on your hands depending on your store.  You can always call Rite Aid customer service to complain.

2. If you have a Wellness discount you might need to grab fillers. Danielle has 10% off and the boxes rang up at $4.31 with her discount but the register automatically gave her $4.79 credit for the free box.  So a little strange but you might want to have a filler just in case.

3. I did print this BOGO coupon last night.  I thought the coupons were gone but when I went through Facebook directly to get the coupon, it did print for me.  Remember there is a limit of 2 coupons per computer.

Did anyone else have a great trip to Rite Aid today?  I’d love to hear about it!

I did it too… got my $1 for each! I did pay .30 for 2 boxes because the coupon only covers 4.49… such an awesome deal!

Just got home… I spent $1.17 OOP and got 8 boxes of Special K, 2 Stayfree, 2 (20 oz.) bottles of Diet Coke, and 5 rolls of wrapping paper. I got $2 UP back for the Stayfree and 8 $1 UPs for the cereal. I used one BOGO Stayfree coupon and one $1/1 Stayfree coupon (with no problems), 4 BOGO Special K coupons (note, however, that the free one is only supposed to be one of two choices of flavors–read your coupon carefully), 3 $0.70/1 Special K Cinnamon Pecan coupons (which covered 3 of the 4 that I “paid for”), and 2 $1/1 20 oz. Diet Coke coupons. The Diet Cokes rang up at $1.11 with my 20% off, but the cereal rang through at regular price ($4.79). The BOGO coupons were up to $4.49 so that’s what they took off and the Stayfree took off $2.50 for the free one. I also used a $3 UP from a previous purchase. Not a bad trip!

Oh, and the wrapping paper was 75% off so $0.49 each.

They will show up as $4.31 (or $3.83 for 20%) on the screen but when two are purchased, they will ring in as $4.79. I bought 8 this morning and also used a $1.00/2 coupon to cover the difference because the coupons only allowed up to $4.49 off.

My Rite Aid was stocked with tons of Special K! I was able to get 8 boxes and they took my coupons no problem. I also bought 4 boxes of Barilla pasta on sale for 4/$5. A $1 +UP printed for each box! They also had rice at $1.49 that printed a $1 +UP too! It was a great trip to Rite Aid for me this morning! Thanks so much for all of your hard work on this blog!

I went this morning and got 4 boxes of cereal for free plus $4 up+ rewards!
My coupons were specific about the free cereal, either the original or the the honey…something (can’t remember). I got 2 boxes of the berry kind and 2 of the original. I think they rang up at different prices, or maybe because of my discount (%20) it rang different. But, the cashier adjusted the coupon price and I I got them for free. The up rewards were a great surprise and bonus!

I was able to purchase 6 boxes for free since I still had a BOGO coupon from the last time it was available to print so 6 1+Ups for each one, also bought 8 StayFree products, used a BOGO on each set so 4 coupons and was able to use 4 $1 off coupons also. Was a great money maker and stocked on both products now!

Regarding the Discount 10% or 20 %. You only get a discount on full priced items, Since the deal is buy one get one free, Rite Aid sees it as half price for each item so technically you should not be getting a discount on those items. I went this morning and no discount was given on the cereal. Just a word for thought. ( i doubled checked this with a manager last ad with the Air wick deal)

I am not too far from my 20 Up Reward now. I see myself making another trip this week once i can get some more newspaper coupons. Thanks for all you do !

It looked liked they rang up at $4.31 ea. but it is actually $4.79 final price. The cashier took only $4.31 ea. for me because the screen showed $4.31 with wellness card. The cereals are sale items there is no additional discount on sale.items. please be aware of this and make sure u get the full $4.49 credit per coupon.

Alyssa I don’t know about the technicalities of the discounts because I don’t shop at Rite Aid. I don’t think Danielle was doing anything shifty with her transaction or intended to break the rules. I think she was merely pointing out that is how the register applied the discount for others to be aware of.

Thats great that you bought real food too Lori! I mean cereal and pasta and rice are not the same as organic mangoes but at least it is staples you know 🙂 So better than cookies and stuff for sure.

Oh no hard feelings for Danielle. Lucky her! Just letting others know as well just in case they wonder why they didn’t get the discount, as i did in the past. thanks again for your hard work Charlene, truly appreciated.

I was confused why they rang up that way, too. On the screen, as he was ringing them up, they said $4.31, but as Jay pointed out, maybe when they went in as BOGO, they went back to $4.79? On my receipt, it printed as $4.79 for the first box, then $.00 as the second, as so on…so maybe that’s why I got the discount? $4.31 never appeared on my printed receipt…I do know that he manually input my coupons as $4.31 b/c that’s what it said on the screen at the time…Oh well! Sometimes I just know it’s nice to hear what others have happen before I go in there…there are a lot of times I want to use up my rewards, etc. and with 3 little ones, I can’t do math at the same time in the store. LOL!! 🙂 Hope this helped someone! I’m just happy to have all this yummy cereal! 🙂
Thanks, Charlene for posting the coupons and the deal!!

If you have a Wellness discount you might need to grab fillers. Danielle has 10% off and the boxes rang up at $4.31 with her discount but the register automatically gave her $4.79 credit for the free box. So a little strange but you might want to have a filler just in case.

Just a note on this: The little screen will show your wellness discount of 10% off, but if you look at the receipt you don’t get the discount when something is on sale for Buy 1 Get 1 Free or 50% off. Rite Aid considers the B1G1 deal better than your Wellness discount so although the screen shows that the receipt will reflect the full price.
    You won’t need a filler.

Also, the Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon is valid up to $4.49 and the boxes at Rite Aid are $4.79 so you will actually pay 30 cents for your box, but it’s worth it since you receive two $1 +UP Rewards!

Hope that clears some stuff up for you 🙂

Do you have to have the wellness card to get the deals? I’ve never shopped at Rite Aid before, and was going to try tomorrow (for cereal, specifically). If you need the card–how do you get it??? Thanks Charlene for all you do!!!

Was dumbfounded today when a manager argued the whole $4.49 max value vs. $4.79 price. I told him I’m responsible for the $0.30/box that the coupon doesn’t go up to and that he should enter $4.49, but he argued that writing down the $4.49 as the selling price when it was actually $4.79 wouldn’t be right and “the company” would find out because of the information on the receipt. Worked out better for me that he was a little whacko/paranoid, oh well tried to be honest about it.

just went to RA and made money and walked out with a cartful (literally, their carts are so small!) of items

    8 stayfree
    4 tylenol precise patches
    2 tylenol precise rubs
    10 special K

    used
    4 – $1 off stayfree
    4- BOGO stayfree
    3- $6/2 tylenol precise
    5- BOGO special K
    used $20 ups

    paid $7.70 OOP
    got $36 UP rewards 🙂

AND, my total towards my $20 reward went up (not sure which products as I didnt pay attention to this part). My special K BOGO coupons were keyed in at the max for 4.49, but after the $1 Up reward that printed for each box, they were still better than free!

I’m loving RA! I get to share my treasures with my parents who are on fixed income 🙂

Kelly – it sounds like you might shop at the RiteAid near my house. The cashiers, managers, etc there have lost their minds. They truly are unbelievable there. They won’t accept coupons over the value of the item even though I showed them the coupon policy said they just need to adjust it down. The manager told me there was no way it could be done and even asked me if I wanted to come behind the counter and look at the screen myself. I was so appalled and other people in the store were shaking their heads and even came up to me afterwards and couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed. This is just one of the amazing coupon blunders that store has tried to pull. Anyway, long story short – you are not alone and I just don’t shop at that RiteAid anymore if I even choose to shop at RiteAid at all. However, I think I might give them another shot with this deal.

Donna I am sorry 🙁 I think if you intend to shop at Rite Aid- just from the feedback I have seen various places- you have to shop early. It seems people that like RA tend to be inclined to want to purchase larger amounts of items. I have personally found the shelves to be empty at my RA no matter what. I was shocked to find 2 Motrin left on Sunday around 1pm. I was sure the whole store would be wiped out.

  29. Kelly says

    01/11/2011 at 12:21 PM

Donna, did you check endcaps? I’ve really had good luck on the endcaps whenever the shelves are empty. My store had Special K on the shelves and two different endcaps. I was really surprised at how well stocked they were. They seem to be in totally random places too like nowhere near the other food items. I also found that their rainchecks will work at any location.

  30. Dionna says

    01/11/2011 at 1:01 PM

I agree with Kelly. I have 2 RA’s and both have “on sale” end caps completely random through the store. Check with the associates as to when they will be getting a truck. This can also help to get what you want.
