Shopping Trip: Walgreens, TRU and Target

I am going to talk my husband into hitting Safeway this week but we are not really buying much. ย The kitchen will officially be goners as of tomorrow morning so the next few weeks should be interesting as we renovate.

Here is what I got:

WALGREENS: $1.49

4 cans Libbys Pumpkin .99- Used (2) $1/2 Libbys fruit coupons
1 Revitalens Contact Solution $3.99
1 Reach Floss .99- used $1 coupon
2 Reach toothbrush at .99- used (2) $1 coupons

Paid with a $5 RR from buying Sinex last week and the total with tax was $1.49. Got back a $3.99 RR for the Revitalens.

See Walgreens matchups here.

TRU: $3.11

I had my $5 deposit form from Toy Story 3 so they gave me a $5 gift card back. Plus I had about $7 left from the free gift card when I bought Tinkerbell. My girls actually didn’t like Toy Story 3 so I decided not to buy it after all.

I bought Tangled Leapfrog Tag Book for $9.99- used $3/1 printable= $6.99
2 games priced at $3 each

My total after gift cards was $3.11 and I will get back a $4 rebate for the games. I have set aside $20 this year just to see how far it goes for Toys 4 Tots. These games are my first purchase- so $18 left to spend. I just want to see how far I can stretch $20 for holiday items for kiddos so stay tuned because I will keep an ongoing tally as I find the deals.

TARGET: $11.01

Kosher Salt $2.09
2 Libby’s Pumpkin (one seems to have disappeared right now) $1.29- Used $1/2 coupon= .79
Seventh Generation Hand Soap $2.99- Used $1/1 Target coupon and $1/1 MQ= $.99
Bread $1.09

AND I was SUPER excited to find a whole cart of 75% off Halloween stuff!! I got 6 books (Fancy Nancy, Curious George, Olivia etc..) for a total of $3.24! They are all Halloween themed but the girls love books so no matter. I also got very loud socks in the clearance bin for .40 each. They have super grippers on the bottom so less slippery than normal socks and worth the tacky factor.

And even better I had several Ore Ida coupons from a Safeway booklet that expire in 2 days so I got 9 bags of potatoes for $1.22! Wowee!
(And no I did not clear any shelves. I shop at a huge store and they had a fridge case stuffed with these- so more than plenty left for other shoppers.)

See Target coupon matchups here.

Anyone else have a pretty good shopping adventure this week?

I’ve been wondering what to do about my Toy Story 3 deposit at TRU. With it being $34.99 and nothing to roll it with, it would actually be quite a bit pricier than the previous pre-order movies. Good to know they’ll refund the deposit. I just might do that.

Were your Halloween books not 90% off?

So I can get my money back in giftcards for my Toy Story 3 preorders? I preordered thinking they’d have the best deal as usual and was seriously let down. Picked mine up at CVS instead.

I prepaid for toy story 3 and have also decided not to buy, so if I take in my prepay I can get a $5 gift card? I thought I was going to be out that money until I read your post. Did I understand that right? Thanks

Joni- I posted about that here:

    http://myfrugaladventures.com/2010/11/toy-story-3-round-up/

I have no idea if this is nationwide or not. I called my store and they told me they would be happy to refund my $5 if I chose not to get the movie. When I went in there were issues because I partially paid the deposit with a gift card- so that is why they gave me the gift card back. I would suggest calling your store and just asking them what the policy is- you might get lucky!

Madison the cart said 75%. I didn’t even look at the retail price so maybe it was 90%. I thought .39-.79 per book was a deal no matter ๐Ÿ˜‰

Charlene, Are you shopping at the Target on Fairway? I would like to get the potatoes, but my store in Lincoln is always priced a little higher.

Yesterday I went and got my refund from my toy story 3 deposit at TRU and then used that towards the blu-ray at target next door and used the $8 off coupon=$11.99. I know it’s not as great as the B&B deal but I have to say that wasn’t too bad considering it was a blu-ray on a BIG new release.

Nicole- it was in the ad so it should be the same. Actually I look at the Super Target ad so I get more deals that way for the matchups- so maybe just double check the local ad and make sure it is in there. But yeah I went to Fairway and you might as well check it out since they renovated there are lots of good prices. They were advertising sugar for $1.02 for 5 lbs in the produce area but the shelves were empty ๐Ÿ™‚

I was able to use the $3/2 and the $1.50/1 steam and mash- so 3 coupons for 3 items and which made them free. Some of the items were $2.25-2.82 so that is why I spent $1.22. It just depends on what you pick out. No beeps on any coupons but watch that $3 as it will only take off $2.25. They have to fix it at the register.

Great, I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

I was told by a cashier at Wags that if you use a RR to pay, then you won’t get another RR. Is that true?

  13. Charlene says

    11/08/2010 at 8:31 AM

Joanna you can read about the RR program by clicking on the Drugstore 101 tab at the top of the page. It is true if you purchase the same item and try to pay with a RR from that item to buy another like item. Otherwise it is not true. The system can be quirky so you might take a minute to read about it before you shop.

My libby’s coupon was refused at Wags, by the cashier, then by the manager, who told me pumpkin was not fruit. I told him that it was, but he didn’t care. I’m about finished shopping at Wags! What a pain they are!

C- that was my bad actually. A reader told me today there are 2 companies that distribute Libby’s. The fruit is from Seneca and the pumpkin is from Nestle. So that is why the coupon was beeping- it is actually from one manufacturer being used on another manufacturer’s product ๐Ÿ™ Who knew!

That’s certainly not your fault, but thanks for the info! ๐Ÿ™‚
