Egg Recall.

In case you missed it on the news today- there has been a recall of eggs sold to a variety of stores due to possible salmonella.  Be sure to check your cartons!

It says you want to look for Julian dates from 136 to 225 and plant numbers from 1026, 1413, and 1946 on the end of the carton.  I can’t tell if it is either of those things or if you need to have the plant number and the Julian date match- does anyone know?

You can return any eggs that are part of the recall to the store you purchased them at.

Oh my gosh thank you SO much for this! I just threw out eggs that met the conditions! I’m in SoCal. The scary thing is, I was (stupidly) storing some hard boiled eggs in the same carton as the raw eggs. Fortunately no one in my family got sick. Scary!

I know Trillian 🙁 I have some Lucerne eggs that have one number but not the other. I tossed them as well. I was thinking of egg beaters for the next few weeks. I accidentally read the comments on one of these articles and it made my stomach turn.

Sorry, a little confused, does it only have to have one of the numbers or does it have to have both the number & the plant number?

Thanks for the info. My kids have had upset tummies the last few days and now knowing this I am calling the Dr because I just finished off a carton of eggs with them.

i thought the egg cartons have to match the numberes that were listed. I noticed that the whole shelf was cleared out in both sections so that safeway must have gotten hit. I did ask for one in the back though so maybe that was better? I am surprised the safeway had no idea or didn’t put anything out about the recall. I saw someone asking about it @ safeway today and they had NO CLUE. not good…

can you get salmonella even if you cook the eggs? i have matching julian dates but not the plant number…we already ate some of them and my daughter threw up the same day but we had a tummy bug going around before that.

I contacted my Vons store this morning because Lucerned eggs are one of the brands affected but the store said that the eggs distributed in So. Cal are safe. I believe the bad eggs were distributed from a farm in Iowa. My family just finished off the carton of eggs we bought last week, and so far so good.

I really don’t think it’s the date that is the issue. Its eggs that came from a particular plant within a particular date range.

All eggs will have a Julian date on them. It doesn’t mean they are part of the recall.

The eggs that are being recalled are coming from specific plants, so you have to look at BOTH the plant numbers and the dates listed. Just because they have matching Julian dates doesn’t necessarily mean they are bad because they could have come from a plant 1,000 miles away from the ones that are affected.
Also, they say if you thoroughly cook the eggs (no runny yokes) it should kill the Salmonela, but I wouldn’t take the chance. Just get your $$ back. HTH…..

There is great irony in this recall – my friend has hens and regularly provides me with fresh eggs. No one has ever gotten sick from her eggs and she has been giving them to friends and family for years. Yet, she can’t sell them – because she isn’t government regulated! Hmmm……
