Trip #2! I couldn’t resist! I am likely going to make one more trip this week and then I will figure out a scenario to roll all the Register Rewards into the diaper deal this week. Stay Tuned!
Transaction #1:
Breeze Meter $14.99- used coupon $14.99
Paid $1.24 in tax- got $5 RR for next purchase
Transaction #2:
Nivea Body Wash $4.99
2pk Batteries .99 (these are a great filler and located in a little bowl at the photo dept)
Tissue .39
Used $1/1 Nivea
Used $5 RR from prior purchase
Total Spent .90- got $5 RR for next purchase
Transaction #3:
Sunsilk Shampoo $1.09 clearance
Sunsilk Conditioner $1.09 clearance
Rembrandt Mouth Wash $5.99
Caramel (already in my tummy) .39
Used $1/1 Rembrandt coupon (I got this from Johnson & Johnson- I will be writing a post next week about a great new mommy kit they offer that is free)
Used $2/2 Sunsilk from Kmart booklet
Used $5 RR from prior transaction
Total Spent $1.23- got $6 for next purchase
I hope this is not too confusing for new couponers. The Walgreens system is a bit of a headache and frankly I don’t take advantage of many offers there because I get a migraine trying to plan complicated scenarios.
For even an experienced Walgreens shopper you learn new things- for example on my 3rd transaction I only used 2 coupons and had 3 items. My subtotal was .19 so I should not have had to add the caramel but the register would not accept the Register Reward.
Also, when figuring the item to coupon ratio- Walgreens coupons used to not count. So many deals you see this week will suggest using the .39 tissue/gift wrap paper as a filler so you can use the Register Reward. Apparently that is not the case anymore- you need to buy something that you don’t use a coupon on at all (like the batteries in T#2 or the caramel in T#3).
Anyway, I still have $13.50 in Register Rewards to roll.
See my 1st Walgreens Trip here and see the entire list of deals for the week here.
Let me know how you did today! Any experience shoppers know why T#3 didn’t work for me?

I went to Walgreens too – wasn’t able to use the 2.25 Ecotrin coupon – manager wouldn’t approve it. And I had a little trouble too with having to have an extra non-coupon item. As a newbie to the coupon way, Walgreens is confusing. But, SO WORTH it!

For transaction #3–1 coupon was for 1 item, the other coupon was for buying 2 items. So that coupon applied to 2 items. Thus you had used a coupon on all three items, and had to add an additional item to be able to use the register reward.
Some managers and clerks are more coupon-friendly than others. I figure if the cash register will accept it then I will take it, I’m very coupon-friendly! And I love to see the deals that people come up with. But the person who gives me my breaks will proudly tell me about how she turned someone away who was trying to use a Walgreens coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon. No amount of arguing will convince her that using both coupons is not “ripping off Walgreens.” Sigh. She obviously doesn’t understand that we get the money back from the manufacturer on the mfq’s. She also makes people leave and come back in before being able to use the Register Rewards, I can’t convince her that “next shopping order” does not mean the same as “next shopping trip.”

Thanks Margo! I guess there is no way around buying that non coupon item to use the rewards! I am trying to figure out a way to roll several rewards into the diaper deal this week and I just hate buying fillers that I don’t need. Seems like such a waste. So even if I use a $3/2 Huggies coupon it will still beep if I try to use a Register Reward as well?
PS: Wish you were at my store!

Hey no problem. I had a couponer last night tell me I was her favorite cashier and she asked me how my Easter ham had turned out (I hadn’t seen her since just before Easter). I do like to get to know the customers a little and enjoy the ones who like to chat and aren’t just there to get their stuff silently!
I believe that yes, you will get beeped if you try to use a register reward with your coupon for $3 off 2 Huggies and all you’re buying is the Huggies.
