I noticed this pretty jingle bell garland in one of the latest Pottery Barn catalogs.
I can’t seem to find it online now but I did see it in stores a few weeks ago for about $17. I was thinking it looked so classic and so elegant and I decided to recreate the same look for a little bit less.
I was able to put something together that looks very similar for about $3.00 total. Not bad and you can use this on your mantle, to brighten up some fresh green garland, on the tree or I think it would look really great as ribbon on a gift. If you have railing or a fence outside this could be a really cheap and pretty way to decorate!
I just popped over to the Dollar Store and picked up a package of silver bells. They come 9 to a package for $1.00. I found some pretty red velvet ribbon at Michael’s for about $2 with a coupon.
Now these Jingle bells are everywhere- you can probably find them at the craft stores or Target has them in tubes in different colors. These Dollar Tree ones I discovered have very thin openings at the top. So I initially thought I could just string the velvet ribbon through. Boo on that because the velvet was too thick so plan B.
I just got out my wonderful hot glue gun and laid the ribbon out in one long line on the counter and then eyeballed equal spacing and glued the bells right on.
And I was thinking it might be a project I scrapped but actually it looks great. You have to look really closely to see that the ribbon is glued and not strung on :). The added perk is that the bells don’t move so they stay nice and uniform when you do string them up.
I tried the garland in several spots until I found the perfect place:
First on the mantle.
On some garland draped over a mirror.
And the final spot:
I had some fresh green garland wrapped around the front stoop and it was just a little plain. I think this added a perfect little pop of color to the greens to make it more festive.
And these make a fantastic sound when they are jangled about so make one of these to drape across the table at a children’s party and I bet they love it!
Easy right?
And I had a few leftover bells that I strung on some red baker’s twine and made little necklaces for my girls.
