This is a super simple recipe- just 2 ingredients- and it is very inexpensive and a yummy treat for the little ones. More importantly this is healthy and it very refreshing.
I actually don’t give my girls many sugary drinks. They don’t get juice very often or flavored waters or sodas- really just water and milk around these parts.
They do ask for sports drinks and other things they see their friends drinking so occasionally I like to make them a little treat- homemade orange soda.
This isn’t really soda- it is more like an Italian soda but we love this drink and it is much healthier then the alternatives out there.
This just takes a second to whip up and hopefully you have bright smiling faces once you are done.
- Juice one orange and set aside.
- Add ice and sparkling water to a glass
- Mix in your fresh squeezed orange juice.
It is really fast and my kids can actually juice the oranges themselves. If you want to skip this step you can buy 100% juice from the store- I find it is a little pricey though.
I use the sparkling lime flavor water from Trader Joes. It is $.99 and adds an extra little zing but any brand would work just fine.
You just want to do this to taste- if you want a sweeter glass add very little sparkling water. If you prefer something lighter and more refreshing add more sparkling water.
Better to start with a little sparkling water and have a quick taste and then you can continue to increase as needed.
The first time I made this I thought it might not be sweet enough but the girls actually loved it. This is perfect to file away for brunch or as an after school treat.
The mason jars you see above are one medium orange juiced each plus the sparkling water. And if you have leftover water, you can always mix it with lemonade, other juices, Torani syrups or whatever you like to drink.
And I just started a new Kid Food board on pinterest that I will be working on so you might follow me there for more ideas!
