Fannie May and Macy’s Ripstick Alert

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

If you ordered from Fannie May chocolates yesterday be sure to email right away ([email protected]) and cancel your order or call them at 800-333-3629.  They released a coupon code for $25 off $25 and then they stopped honoring the code and apparently now they have been removing the code from people’s orders and charging them full price!!  That is really shameful and frankly stealing from customers.  If the code wasn’t supposed to be released orders should have been canceled- not adjusted to be significantly higher than you agreed to pay.  So be very careful if you placed an order!  I was trying to order and the site was so darn slow I never got one in.  I had heard about a problem with this company once before and I will never post anything from them again.

Also, if you got in on the great deal at Macy’s for a $20 Ripstick apparently they had a pricing error and some people have had orders canceled.  That is very disappointing as well because I know a lot of you were really excited.  Personally, I think they should honor the orders but I guess they elected to cancel them instead.   So I will have my fingers crossed that you get your Ripstick but just be aware that you might not get your order.

On a more positive note, we have all been scoring really great deals recently  so I try not to dwell on these negative experiences.  Instead I am grateful for the zillions of incredible deals that come my way every week.  Like I got 2 free chocolate bars at Hallmark tonight- so take that Fannie!

Macy’s Alert #2!!  According to reader Nikki a customer service rep at Macy’s agreed to reimburse the $79 difference on the Ripstick as soon as the item shipped.  So you will be charged $99 and then credited $79 once your item ships!!  If you placed the order for this toy it might be worth a call!

I just received my email from Macy’s about the Ripsticks’ pricing error. I sent an email to customer service and will be calling them tomorrow. Most stores honor “their goof up” pricing. It said in the email, “this was an obvious error.” I stated in my email that it was not an obvious pricing error to the consumer due to the timing of the mistake…right around Black Friday. This is so unfortunate.

Yeah, I just read my email about the ripstik – very disappointed, my soon would have been so in love with me 🙂
    Oh well!

I am totally bummed about this. I have sent an email and will be calling customer service tomorrow, too. I know we have all been given great deals, of late, but I did not shop other “good” deals on Black Friday due to having already purchased this one. Sadly, if they do not make this right, I am not shopping at Macy’s anymore . . . deal or no deal:(

I just wanted to say it’s great that you follow up on these deals. So many sites don’t.
Also, I’ve been a serious online bargain hunter for a while, and even when it’s a huge bummer, I’ve learned to let it go. There really is always another deal around the corner, and sometimes deals I was sure were too good to be true, have turned out great-I just got my second set of cards for example, and my Leapster games! So, hang in there, everyone, and thanks again, Charlene.

    Hey Meg,

That is a great way to look at it. Just today I was treated so shabbily at Wags and swore I’d never return and then I popped into a different store tonight and got some incredible deals. So you win some you lose some. The holiday cards were awesome this year- plus the $40 photo book I just got- the free calendars and photo books we just ordered from Photoworks- there have been some outstanding freebies lately.

    Nikki,

I know it is disappointing. With a small company I get canceling orders because we aren’t looking to put them out of business but with Macy’s it is different. Plus they had those darn things on sale for ages. We didn’t use coupon codes or anything so I think they should honor the deal too. More great deals will come our way though so don’t be too upset.

I received one of the cancelled order emails too:(. I was too excited over this since I didn’t even know they existed and my kids would have LOVED it. Is it even worth it to email them and fuss? Oh well- we have enough already cuz’ of all the other great deals! Thanks Charlene!!!

I don’t know Melissa. I was ready to fire off a nasty email to Walgreens today and then realized they really don’t care. It was just waste of my time and energy really. I think Nikki has a valid point though that they certainly chose an awful time of year to do this and took their sweet time to let people know. It is more effective though when companies do things like this to let them know en masse that we don’t appreciate it. So up to you! Nikki let us know if you get anywhere!

    Charlene,
Thanks so much for these updates – I totally agree with Meg. And totally appreciate all the hard work you do to give us heads-up on awesome deals. I have only been couponing for the past few months but find myself loving your site above any other I’ve encountered. Thanks again!

    Charlene,
I didn’t even look at either of these deals myself, but just wanted to thank you for the way you handled this post. I’ve read a number of other posts from other bloggers about this and really, what good does complaining do. Yes, it’s disappointing for sure, but like you said – we get so many other good deals – let’s focus on that instead! Thanks for keeping us informed, giving us all the facts, AND most of all keeping things upbeat and positive!! I so appreciate that about you!

I too was among the many that was in my words ripped off with the ripstick deal. I do not see how they can do that .That is not our fault that they made the mistake. I also will be calling and giving them a mouthfull!! Thanks

UPDATE:) I am so excited. I called Macy’s this morning and had a super nice representative. I explained the situation and she told me that Macy’s has agreed to do the following:
Charge customers the $99 price plus tax for the Ripstick until the items ships from the manufacturer. Upon shipping, your credit card will be reimbursed the $79 making it the original price paid!!! Mine will ship 12/12/09!!
THANK YOU MACY’S:) I WILL BE SHOPPING WITH THEM AGAIN!! Deal or no deal!!

That is great, Nikki – I just wish I had the $99 to cover it until then – oh well, but I am glad they are honoring their origianl price.

I would try calling Tonia, my customer service rep somehow ordered it for me at the price I originally paid. She said it was a computer glitch and that my order should not have been cancelled. Who knows I will just be happy to get this for my daughter if it comes!

Thanks, Stacy – I may have to give it a try then. Have a great day!

I called customer service this morning and spoke w/ Contessa- who was AWESOME! She ran the order thru w/ free shipping and said that she will give back the 79 dollar credit when the item has shipped. She expects it to ship on 12/11. She said that the reason the orders were cancelled is because they were coming direct from the manufacturer and not from their warehouse. Apparently the manufacturer didn’t like the low price. I was not going to call and am soooo happy that I did! I did have to bring up the fact that my ‘friend’ did get the above deal because at first I don’t think that she was going to do anything about it. She was great after that. Good Luck everybody who calls! She also told me to call back after the item is shipped to make sure that I get my credit.

I sent an email to Macy’s after I got an email saying my order was cancelled. This is the response I got:

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience this
incident has caused you. A system error at macys.com incorrectly listed
the price of Razor RipStik Scooter at $20.00 instead of the correct
price of $99.00. Upon checking of your order, the price of the Razor
RipStik Scooter is still at $20.00 and your order total is $25.95. We
will be honoring the price that you have seen at the Macy’s site. If
you will be charged the $99.00 on your account after the item has been
delivered, you may give us a call through our Customer Service number
listed below and we will be glad to make the adjustments for you.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. If
you have any further questions or concerns, please e-mail us at
[email protected] or call us at: 1-800-289-6229. Our office
hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to
7:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

If you get overcharged by Fannie Mae, I would advise filling a dispute with your credit card company as soon as the charge posts to your account. I had a very similar problem with SeventhAvenue.com removing a coupon code after I placed an order and charging me full price without my authorization. I had a printed confirmation showing the coupon code being applied which I supplied to my credit card company and they credited my account back within 5 business days. I always make sure I print all my order confirmations in case something like this happens and I need proof of the amount I authorized my credit card to be charged.

What a mess!! After getting an email saying my order was fine I went online to find that it was cancelled so I emailed customer service again. They said my order was in fact cancelled and to call customer service to replace the order. I called customer service and they said NO!!! I went a little nuts on the lady and said I had 2 emails saying they would honor the price. Finally she relented and placed the order. They had to charge my card the full price and then issue a credit. Needless to say I’ll be watching my account!!

Did anyone actually GET their Ripstik? They cancelled my order twice, then claimed the item was no longer available!
