In case some of you were wondering- I decided not to go shopping this week. We had a last minute Easter dinner at our house so I wasn’t really able to plan a good trip. I just headed into Raley’s, which had the best price on ham and spent $46 on Easter dinner for 11 people which I thought was pretty darn good considering I didn’t use any coupons. We had a really nice dinner too including ham, potatoes, carrots, salad, asparagus and dessert.
So this week we are eating out of the pantry mostly to kind of make up for it and also just so I can clear things out.
I did hit CVS on Sunday for a gallon of milk and paid .60 + $2.30 in ECBs. Today I went to Sprouts to get the sale on Horizon Organic milk. So here was my quick and thoroughly unexciting trip:
1 gallon Horizon milk $4.50
Organic eggs $.79 (!) these expire in 4 days so they were marked down but what a deal!
6 pints of blackberries .50 each (who could resist that! such a deal!)
And I just have to mention that someone left a comment yesterday asking why I have a dog when we are so poor we have to use coupons- or something to that effect. I just wanted to clarify our family can afford groceries. I try to stick to a $50 budget as a choice not a need. We simply like to spend our money on things we want and to have a nice savings account and lots of other things. If we needed something this week, I would have purchased it. I had a lot of random items that I wanted to use up which provided a nice excuse to skip the stores and allowed me to stick to my budget.
So total spent this week was $46 + .60 + $8.39=$55
Well this was just a ridiculous day- I felt like I was running all over the place. One of the things I have been working on is just really getting the time I spend using coupons and shopping down to a max of 2 hours per week. The amount that I save seems to justify that amount of time for sure but this week I spent way too much time in stores. So anyhow, it seems to have worked out and I spent a total of $38.
I can not even begin to say how excited I am to finally have a shopping trip to post! We had to do pretty extensive renovations to our kitchen after a water leak- so I have not had a microwave, oven, dishwasher, sink, floor, cabinets etc.. etc.. etc.. for weeks and weeks now.
FINALLY our plumbing was finished today and we offically have a dishwasher and sink (YEAH!) so here is my fast trip to the store. Hopefully I will even get a menu plan done for this week.

So the total was just under $55. I have been thinking about increasing our budget to $60 a week. I really want to add a few more extras in each week like better cheeses and I noticed we have been running out of proteins before my sale cycle circles back. So this week we did $55 and I will just see what next week brings.
*I messed this up. I thought it was buy 5 Kraft cheese and get them for $1.99 but the bagged cheese did not count. So I actually went to customer service to buy a 5th Deli Deluxe cheese and they just wound up giving me a $1 back for each pack instead. (very nice!)
This week was a little different for two reasons- first I used Safeway’s delivery service this week rather than going to to the store! Second, I will be out of town from Tuesday-Sunday next week so I really didn’t need anything. I decided this week to just stock up on some things that are non perishable.
Here is what I did:
SAFEWAY: $40.00
4 bags frozen chicken $7.96 each (16 lbs total)
2 packages Pork Sirloin $9.00
Grapes $2.00
4 Hormel Veggie Chilli .99 each
Frozen Spinach $1.49
1 Organic Iced Tea (I already drank)
My subtotal was $50 and I used a promotional code for $10 off $50. So the total was $40 and shipping was free! (Check back on Tuesday. I will have more details about this service and a gift card giveway!!)
RALEY’S: $12.95
6 boxes Raisin Bran $1.99- used (3) $1/2 coupons
4 boxes Flatbread Crackers $1.99- used (4) $1/1 coupons

I paid $12.90 and got a $10 cat back
Transaction #2:
Organic Veg Broth $$3.29
TGIF Quesadillas $3.99
Orzo Pasta .99
Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon $3.69- Used Free item coupon
French Bread $1.78
Total $10.05 and I used the $10 cat and paid .05!!
I bought the TGIF item just to hit $10 and because there is a try me free rebate. So I spent a total of $52.95 this week and I will get back $3.99 in a rebate.
Here is my its a party edition of the weekly shopping! We are hosting a 4th of July BBQ so I had to pull together a somewhat last minute menu and try to stay close to our $50 budget. Usually I try to plan in advance for parties which helps keep the budget down but right now things are pretty harried over at the MFA house.
Also, I planned to buy several items at Costco and can you believe they closed at 6pm on a Saturday?! So everything was from Raley’s and CVS this week.
This wasn’t a very good week for shopping. It is really hot here and our AC is having issues- which always makes me short tempered. Plus Facebookers know I got my braces on today which hurts like crazy. So anyway, I wasn’t in the mood to spend a lot of time shopping this week and I actually messed up and didn’t give the cashier all my coupons.
This is what I did:
Nugget $6.60
3 Almond Milk
Tomatoes
Watermelon
Safeway $26.86
Grapes
3 Lucerne Butter
2 Popsicle
2 Ben and Jerrys
2 Fiber One Yogurt
2 Cheese Nipes
2 Cucumbers
1 bag spinach
1 bag salad
1 pint strawberries
2 Feta Cheese
1 Filone bread
For all the coupon matchups you can head over to the Safeway deals here and Nugget deals here. The highlight for me was getting that Almond milk for .50 each each this week!
