I posted a freezer jam recipe awhile back but suddenly we are seeing so many lovely blackberries in my area. When one of my stores had an amazing sale on organic berries, I grabbed a bunch and decided to make Blackberry Jam.
This is really delicious and very fast to make. My kids love to have this spread on crusty french bread along with some fruit for a treat or I like it on a crumpet with melty butter… it just doesn’t get any better then that! You might also try this on pancakes or waffles or muffins or scones… so many wonderful options!
Here is the quick and easy recipe to make a very large jar.
The first step is to thoroughly wash your berries. I used organic and if you can find them for a reasonable price that is the best option.
I used (6) 6oz containers of blackberries. You can adjust this according to how much jam you would like.
Next pop all your berries into the food processor.
Next put your berries in a large skillet on medium high heat. Add 1/4 cup of sugar (again adjust this to your taste). My blackberries were a little tart so I used a bit more sugar. If you have super sweet berries you might reduce this a bit.
Add about 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice.
Now bring the jam to a boil and continue stirring for about 10 minutes. The mixture should reduce down to a nice thick consistency.
Once you get the right consistency, you want to pour the mixture into a bowl or jar and let it cool at room temperature. Once it cools, you can put it in the storage container of your choice.
This should last for several weeks in the fridge.
I hope you enjoy this recipe! It was adapted from a recipe by Bobby Flay.
