This is a fun and super simple idea for summer crafts with kids or a rainy day craft to bring a little sunshine in.

Now this could not be simpler to make and super inexpensive and has such fun colors that little ones are going to really love.

The texture on this is soft and playdoh-y and very fun to squish.  You can really have fun with this and use ice cream cones, sprinkles, ice cream scoops and so on.

This is obviously completely edible and gluten free but I wouldn’t really encourage eating it- or much of it as it is basically pure sugar.  I remember when my girls were a little younger though, there were always other littles that just could not play with playdoh or slimes or flubber without tasting everything.

This recipe is for a pretty swirl effect like you see above- I call it unicorn ice cream playdoh because of the great blues and pinks and swirled purple colors.  You can definitely cut the recipe in half and just make one color.

I used the boldest, brightest frosting color I could find but I think a soft lemon would be amazing or a soft pink/red color with mini chocolate chips (watermelon) chocolate or just plain vanilla frosting and add in your own colors.  I think the next time we make this will be strawberry, vanilla and chocolate in a Neapolitan swirl.

Simple 2 Ingredient Ice Cream Playdoh

Ingredients
  • 5½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup pink frosting
  • 1 cup blue frosting
Instructions
  1. Add 2 ¾ cups of powdered sugar to a stand up mixer using the paddle attachment. Add 1 cup of
  2. blue frosting. Mix on low, scraping sides as needed, until dough balls up into a playdough
  3. consistency. If the mixture is too powdery and is not forming a play dough ball, add a
  4. teaspoon of frosting and continue to mix.
  5. Remove the ball of blue play dough and set it aside.
  6. Repeat this process with pink frosting.
  7. Add the blue play dough ball back into the mixer with the pink play dough ball. Set the mixer to
  8. low to blend the two colors together. Only mix long enough to mostly incorporate the pink into
  9. the blue.
  10. Allow the kiddos to enjoy playing with this play dough with ice cream cones, an ice cream scoop,
  11. sundae bowls, maybe even sprinkles!

You can store this in a Ziploc in the fridge and let come to room temp to play again and again.  If you have any issues with dry play doh- a tiny bit of coconut oil (melted) does the trick.
