Just a quick reminder that you can donate any expired coupons you might have to overseas military families. There are a TON of coupons that are expiring either today or on the 31st.

Many military members stationed overseas don’t have access to coupons and they can use them at the commissary after they have expired.

So this is a very simple thing to do to support our military and their families.  They can use the coupons up to 6 months after they expire but you will want to try and mail them within a few weeks of their expiration.

You can send your coupons to the Overseas Coupon Program.  You will need to fill out a very short form to adopt a base and then you will hear from someone with the details of where you can send your coupons!

Update: Ok so there was some pretty nasty stuff going on Brita’s Facebook page and they have changed their minds and said once again they will be honoring the rebates.   I would very strongly suggest getting that rebate in if you purchased a pitcher or you intend to purchase a pitcher because there are no guarantees they won’t change their minds again.

Well it looks like the Brita water rebate is no longer available. Brita has reached the limit of rebates they can accept so if you are planning to buy a pitcher just understand you can try submitting the $10 rebate form but most likely it won’t be honored.

While that may be disappointing, I do appreciate that they let people know now rather than waiting several weeks to send some form letter out.

On the upside, from what I understand, Walmart has these for less than $6.  You can still use the $4/1 from 1/15 SS and pay $2 or so for a pitcher!  That is a great deal to me!

If you already mailed your form off, hopefully you will get your rebate check back.  There is a chance it won’t be honored so if you have not yet opened the box, you can always return the product for a refund.

If you are interested in trying to earn a little money from home, Ipsos survey company is currently accepting applications.

Currently they are only looking for moms of any age group.

This company is one that sends you surveys and you complete those and accumulate points.  The points are then redeemed for cash, prizes or gift cards.

I did research awhile back on survey companies and this particular one most people told me it was a pretty simple and straightforward company to work with.

One tip if you want to get started with some of these companies is to set up a separate email account so that everything is in one place. I used to do a lot of these programs (before the blog!) and what I would do is just sit with the laptop in the evening while my husband was watching TV.  During commercials or whatever I would get through quite a bit of applications and it always seemed to go pretty quickly and it didn’t feel like such a chore.

Just a quick reminder about this service. It is one of my favorite freebies that came up last year for sure.

You can register for UPS My Choice and electronically manage if shipments are left without signatures, get alerts when boxes are supposed to be delivered and you can even reroute packages if you have a change of plans!

Some things you need to pay a fee for (like rerouting packages) but the basic benefits are totally free. I love this service because I know exactly when things will come and I know exactly when they have been delivered.

I order a lot of items online and UPS used to always require signatures. They seem to ring the bell right at naptime and it gets the dog all riled up- wakes the kids up… just a nightmare so now I sign for everything electronically and no more hassle.

You just register for the service and they do everything.  You will get emails letting you know when packages will arrive (I even get a delivery window of time) and I get a second email once they are delivered.

The grand total was $97.  I try to spend $50 per week on groceries but the last 3 weeks I have not spent the entire $50 so I did have about $25 extra in the budget.

I am going to see how things go but we might need to bump our budget up again to maybe $60.  I am noticing a lot of price increases on things we regularly buy (like the organic milk and organic eggs have gone up).  My girls are going through a growth spurt right now and eating a TON all the sudden.  They will easily eat one pint of blueberries with oatmeal in the morning and then 1 lb of strawberries will be just one afternoon snack between the three of us… so we’ll see how it goes for the next 2 weeks and decide.

I have been hearing about this new service from UPS to help easily manage all your packages and it has been on my list to check out for weeks.

Well now that we are down to the wire to get all our holiday items, I thought I better get this posted. You can register for a new service from UPS called UPS My Choice that allows you to completely manage everything.

You can electronically manage if shipments are left without signatures, get alerts when boxes are supposed to be delivered and you can even reroute packages if you have a change of plans!

Now I get a lot of packages because I try to order online as often as possible. Last Friday we had an important package coming and we paid for 2 day shipping. Of course they delivered it in the 25 min span of time I was not home and we missed the thing. I can’t tell you how annoyed I was because we didn’t get a second attempt at delivery until Monday- so it arrived 4 days later than I wanted.

Anyway, I called UPS and they told me to get registered for this and it will handle everything for me. If you have any last minute packages coming to your home or if you just tend to order online you might want to check this out!

AND once you register you can print coupons for your local UPS store.  That should come in handy for shipping off packages.

Lowe’s will have another free kid’s clinic this Saturday, the 17th.  Hopefully, they are not all filled up yet.

They will be building the engine for the train that they have been building for the last few clinics.  The engine will also feature a pullback motor!

Lowe’s clinics start at 10AM and you must register before you go.  The clinics are free.  All supplies will be provided.  And the kids should get an apron and other little goodies.

These do fill up fast so you want to register right away.  If you can’t get a spot, you might still be able to get in if someone doesn’t show up on Saturday.  The policy is different from store to store, so you can call ahead and check.

Alrighty so I am super behind in getting this information posted. Mostly because I get very cranky when I have to take the time to fix things that shouldn’t need fixing.

Anyway, Facebook made some big changes several weeks ago and now you will have to go through and update the information you want to receive on your news feed. I keep hearing from many of you that can’t see updates from My Frugal Adventures and hopefully this will help with the problem.

For Your Friends.

Right now you are probably only seeing some of what they post. If you would like to see everything they post, you need to watch for something that comes through on your news feed. Once you catch that you want to look for a tiny arrow on the right side.

Now click on that arrow and change from Most Updates (that is the default) to All Updates.

Now you will have to change that for each of your friends- unless you prefer not to see all the updates.

For The Pages that You Follow. 

Ok now what you need to do for the pages that you follow, is you need to click that same arrow on the right side.

Mark it as a top story.  (Mine is already marked as a top story as you can see.)

You might need to do this a few times and finally Facebook will start putting all the posts back in your news feed.

Create a List. 

So this is a new feature that some might be interested in.  You can create lists.  So to so this is simple- this might be how you separate all the different sites you like to keep things straight.

So if you want to make a list, start on your homepage.

Ok so that is my current mess- and by the way this is a good time to delete any junky apps you might have.  If you see apps listed from coupons and various things just click to the left of the name of the app and you can easily delete them.

Ok so now focus on where it says more at the very bottom right side.  Click. Now you see lists.

This is what mine looked like- I have never done anything to it so yours probably looks similar.

Ok so you can click that create a list and well create a list! So if you follow cooking blogs- you can create a list for those sites.  If you have certain groups of people you want to lump into one- well there you go.  You might also make a Deal Blog list and hopefully include My Frugal Adventures in that.

So now you started your list and it is blank.  You want to click add friends in the center of the screen.  That will bring up your friends.  So just switch on the left side to pages rather than friends.

Then you go through all those pages and you just click on which ones you want to include in your list.  It will highlight the page like this:

Ok now that is all done and you have your list!

So I have mentioned this a few times recently and wanted to just remind you of this very worthy charity and also give some tips on inexpensive items available right now.

If you are not familiar with Operation Christmas Child, it is a charitable organization that provides little shoeboxes of gifts to children in need to war torn countries around the world.

You simply pack a shoebox with items a child might want or need and then you print off a label and you can track exactly where your box goes.  You can choose a gender and an age range for your box and inside you put items that would be appropriate.

Now you will need to pay shipping fees for each shoebox which are $7.00.  You write a check and include that with your box.

There are a few very important things to note before you get to packing a box.  The first is that nothing liquid or breakable can go in the boxes (so skip the little nail polishes and things like that.)  You can wrap a shoebox but make sure the lid is wrapped separately so that the people at the processing centers can see everything you have included.  You also want to avoid anything that might be violent- so no little action figures, guns- etc.. etc..   You can include candy but try to avoid anything that might not hold up in transit like chocolate.  They prefer that you not include food with your boxes.

Also, remember if you include a flashlight you also want batteries.  If you include pencils, you also want to get a sharpener for them.  I try to mix up practical items with fun items for our shoeboxes.

Here is what I have for my boxes this year.  We do 3 boxes, one from each of my girls and then I do one in my MOPS group.

I prefer to buy the little tupperware storage containers because those can be handy for the child to keep reusing.  I tend to buy little things all year and set them aside.  That keeps the cost incredibly low for the contents of these boxes.

This year here is what I have:

I chose little girls aged 2-4 and one for a 5-9 year old for my boxes since I have little ladies in that age range.

Box #1:

• Tupperware Container (shoebox size) $1.00 (Dollar store)
• Minnie Mouse Jumprope $1.00 (Dollar store)
• Blow Pops $.74 (for an entire bag- Halloween candy clearance)
• Hot Wheels FREE (there was a coupon that made these free awhile back)
• Bar Soap FREE (These used to be free with coupons)
• Barbie Toothbrush FREE with coupons
• Toothpaste sample that was free in the mail
• Winnie the Pooh Socks, Hello Kitty Pencils, Crayons, and Coloring Book $.25 per item in the Target Dollar Spot clearance
• Barbie Doll $1.19 on Halloween clearance at Target
• Fuzzy feather ink pen $1 (Dollar Store)
• Little heart bracelets $.74 on clearance for 3 at Target (this is a good tip- keep an eye on the party supply areas. Party favors make great donations and you can just divide them up amongst a few boxes)
• Aveeno Body Wash- free sample
• Smurf toy- (from a Happy Meal!)
• Long sleeve shirt from Target $2.84 with a coupon

Plus I have the bracelets from above and the candy to include  as well.  The total including the containers is $14.61 for both boxes.
I think just shopping those 70 or 75% off sales year round at the Target Dollar Spot and you can basically get everything you can need for these boxes for just a few dollars.

Anyway that is the scoop and you can get all the information you need from Operation Christmas Child.  Note the deadline to drop off boxes is next week, Nov 14-21.  

You can see the boxes we did last year here.  We wrapped a few of the items last year and then they had to get unwrapped when we dropped them off so don’t do that.  You can put them in clear baggies with little stickers and things to get the kids more involved.

I will have the latest Shop for Free list for Target and Walmart posted tomorrow morning. That would be a great place to check for a bunch of items you can include in your boxes. You certainly don’t need to buy Barbies and things for your boxes- my kids are just as excited about a box of bandaids and a bright pink toothbrush as they are with real toys.

I think this is a worthwhile program to participate in. The points add up quickly if you are buying a lot of Disney movies and the prizes are really good.
