Alright so May Day actually passed already but I still refer to May as May Day because well… Mayday my friends. Mayday.
Sports are in high gear, dance recital next month, school and all the things (why yes, happy to meet you I am the class mom for 2 classes). I know it isn’t just me. Also summer is barreling toward me at high speed.
I have failed a zillion times so far- the teacher appreciation gifts that are themed by day (pamper me Tuesday, treat Wednesday, flowers for Friday etc…) well I knocked it out of the park on Monday and then ran out of steam for the rest of the week. (I’m sorry teachers. I will make up for it with a great end of year gift I promise.) Although I knocked it out of the park on Monday, I neglected to take photos of what I made to post here on the blog. So there is that.
I did manage to drag myself back to the gym this week after a wayyyyy too long hiatus and went to a Street Vybe class only to get this text from my husband at 5:00pm.
Lol. My daughter Addy (known in our family as Bob) has ballet from 4pm-6:15pm. Once a week. We have missed so much ballet for softball games this Spring I can barely bring myself to show my face in the studio. And my poor darling girl will be on stage in two weeks to perform two dance numbers and a solo of some sort. Completely and totally forgot her class. Total stink eye from her instructor. Just another example of mayday.
But y’all guess what? I am choosing hard to focus on all the eight million things I did get right and not the few things that slip through the cracks. Guess what also happened on Thursday? I remembered to get sunscreen and dryer sheets when I went into Target. (Hurray for remembering what you actually went into the store for!), I remembered to remind my husband to apply said sunscreen. I got softball uniforms washed and ready for playoff games (three days in a row). I had dinner ready and packed to take to the ball field (orange chicken and rice in thermos), we finished a class project my little girl had been procrastinating on, I did adulting things like calling the bank and paying bills, dealt with a weird friend fight situation that caught me off guard from my girl that never has any conflict with anyone, I got myself to the gym… so many wins that day right? So many wins. If you are feeling like the hot mess express these days try to give yourself lots of grace because I bet that win list is ten times longer than the one or two things that slip through the cracks. We totally got this.
See that picture at the top? Yup my baby girl turned 9 this month. I haven’t actually planned her birthday party yet. In my defense we have had sports like crazy and soccer tryouts were Mother’s Day weekend and her birthday falls on the 10th and just well.. mayday. We learned in the past that no one comes to birthday parties on Mother’s Day weekend anyway. BUT guess who got a special breakfast? And her favorite dinner? And to leave school early for lunch with Daddy? And her room filled with balloons? And a birthday scavenger hunt that has become a family tradition? That girl. So all in all not a bad way to usher in a 9th year on this planet. And I am hoping to get birthday party fun planned for the end of May.
We did have our hearts broken when one of us didn’t make a team we had been trying so hard all year to make. Lots of tears and possibly a little too much ice cream all around. We are better now and perhaps slightly angry but excited to have a fresh start with a new team. My fellow sports moms, this job ain’t for the faint of heart and I hope none of you faced the same sad little faces this tryout season. It is hard.
And that brings me to all the things I am loving these days.
I so love this rug and I am trying to figure out where I can make it work. At the moment I am thinking I might layer this under the welcome mat at the front door or I might put it in the laundry room.
I don’t want to overstate this but this hair dryer is life changing. You need it. My hair is sort of like a horse’s tail. Wavy and thick and it takes one million years to blow dry and I basically fight my hair every day. I bought this thing on a recommendation from a friend and it is a round brush that also dries your hair. It is quick drying and basically gives me the best at home blow out I have ever done. Really. If your hair is also your enemy, give this thing a shot. I shower and wash, blow out once with this thing and then I have pretty, smooth, straight hair for at least 3 days. I LOVE it. If the house was on fire, I would grab this hair dryer. Just saying.
I absolutely love the new clothes coming out at Target (finally!) especially the darling Junk Food vintage Mickey stuff and the rainbow stuff. This rainbow swim suit is just the cutest and I am trying to figure out which kid I like best to order it for.
This pool float cracks me up. The kids are going to get a kick out of it so ordered and on its way.
There are some fun new colors of Hydroflasks available and I just bought the lemon yellow for my big girl and the bright, flamingo pink for my little girl. These are pricey but in my opinion worth every penny. If you have kids going to camp or doing sports this summer these are so worth buying. They need a ton of water and you can load this up the night before with water and ice and it will still be delightfully cold the next day and get them through all their stuff. I picked up a few balloons from the Dollar Store and tied them to the bottles and filled the bottles up with some favorite candies to celebrate the end of soccer tryouts (and making great teams) plus making All Stars for softball. We are trying to get better at celebrating the little wins in our house and I know the girls are going to get a ton of use from these. (Available at Nordstrom as well by clicking here.)
Oh and before I sign off did I introduce you to Monty yet? Yup this is Monty. He was rescued after his mama (an English Bulldog) was left to deliver puppies all by herself. English Bulldogs need to be given C sections as they often die in childbirth and Monty’s unknown Daddy is obviously a large breed dog, making her experience even more traumatic. Sigh. Why are people so horrible? Monty and his two sisters were saved but the other siblings passed away quickly as did the Mama. Such a sad beginning to his life but things have turned around for this little guy!
We completely adore him and even better, our other dog, Bosley is basically in love with Monty.
This little chunky guy is growing so fast. I must have 200 photos so far trying to capture his baby face.
We have to order one of those DNA kits for dogs because we can’t figure out what he is. Anyone familiar with dogs have guesses? So far we think Coonhound, Sharpei, Mastiff, German Shepherd…
Here is Monty with his sister- she looks German Shephardy to me…
Those eyes right? He is a spoiled baby and rules this roost let me tell you.
I hope you have a wonderful month my friends. We got this!

I’m a long-time reader, and I always love reading these “behind the screen” posts. Your girls are getting so big! Also, where did you get the top you’re wearing when you’re holding the new dog? I love it!

Hi Betsy,
Thanks I love that top! I got it from Jane.com awhile back. I know. The girls are huge 🙁 Fun and sad at the same time!

Oh, those eyes! Take a look at either Southern Black Mouth Cur breed or Chinook breed.
