(The cutest little general store at Slide Rock in Sedona …)
Good morning my friends and Happy May to you! May might just be the prettiest month of the year and it is also the busiest! Last year I remember telling a friend that May has become the new December and this year it is the same. A crazy full schedule for sure- what about you?
Do you have time to join me for a quick chat? Let’s get some iced coffee- have you tried the Starbucks Cold Brew yet? It is wonderful!
(waiting for our turn at that pink door. Ha! Get the story here…)
How are your summer plans coming along? I have been procrastinating on getting our plans together. We had hoped to do some travel this summer but our beloved old dog, Milo is 12 1/2 this year and we lost our regular dog sitter. We have had family step in and help but we are feeling like he has overstayed his welcome with our last few trips.
(Read about our recent Scottsdale trip and hot air balloon ride here.)
So now we are putting all travel plans on hold until we can figure out a solution. This is a new phase for us that some of you might be able to relate too. Milo is definitely advancing in age and the vet has politely suggested more than once that we should consider putting him to sleep. Sigh. He still wags his tail. He is still eager to see us in the morning.
He loves mealtime best of all. He loves going for walks. So we feel like there is a lot of life left in him. But he does have arthritis and can’t get up and down the stairs anymore. He occasionally has a bathroom accident inside the house. So I dunno. I feel like we will know when it is time and it isn’t time quite yet. Such a hard thing to think about saying goodbye to a beloved member of the family. Does anyone have advice or suggestions for us?
(Pretty sure he is sticking his tongue out at me.)
We did adopt a new puppy back in December and dang if he isn’t huge already! Bosley is sweet and silly and fun and loves his toys and the dog park and hiding baseballs and especially loves treats. He is very excited to see me planting flowers this Spring as it gives him something to dig up later! (Lol. Bad dog!)
So enough about our silly little problems and back to you! What do you have planned this summer? Can you believe Spring is almost over? Where did it go?
Do you have big plans for Mother’s Day? Mother’s Day is always a bit unusual in our house. I was raised in a single parent household by my Father so no Mama for me to make big plans for. And my beautiful, surly, smart, goofy little Princess Maya was actually born on Mother’s Day 8 years ago. Her birthday usually falls right before or on Mother’s Day and that always brings the party planning. This year it was ridiculous trying to find a day free to have her party and we wound up scheduling it for Friday before Memorial Day. I hope some of her sweet friends can come. Poor little darling loves parties and every year we struggle to find a day that people can make it.
(seriously just the cutest in her uniform)
I am very sad to see softball season ending this month. We have been juggling two upcoming dance performances, softball season and competitive soccer for two kids which is crazy so I will not be sorry to say goodbye to the chaos of schedules but we really loved our first softball season. My little one wants to try out next year and my big girl had such a great experience, she is really looking forward to another season as well. If you have little ladies at home why not sign up for softball season next year! You might be surprised at how fun it is.
So I guess that is about it for this month. I will be recapping our trip to Arizona and Utah very soon in case you are considering some travel of your own. We were blown away by the beauty of both places and can’t wait to go back.
In the meantime, here are a few things I am considering purchasing for myself for Mother’s Day this year. I always buy myself the perfect thing 😉
Bangles (these are so pretty in person. If you are not a statement necklace kind of person, these bangles add a great pop of color)
Espadrilles– I like the slight heel on these but these were a close second choice
Go Pro (you might normally think of Go Pros for kids or Dad but I really want one! The pictures of the kids in the pool will be awesome this year! Who has advice on which basic Go Pro I should get?)
Jo Malone fragrance (I love the French Lime Blossom but all the scents are amazing- if it is good enough for Princess Kate it is good enough for me)
Nike Sneaks (need new ones and how pretty and fresh is this pink?!)
J Crew Shorts– so fancy with the bow right?
PJ bottoms (PJs are my jam)
Glitter Sunscreen (I realize I am a grown up but my girls are going to love this and that makes me so happy)
Summer here we come!

We signed up our daughter for softball season too. She loves it and we love it. It’s our second season. We are considering signing her up for Fall Ball.
Charlene says
Oh I will need to look into that! A friend mentioned fall ball but I haven’t seen anything about it in my area.

Our dog is 15. It takes her some time to get up from lying down, walks are VERY slow, she can get up and down the stairs but it is not an easy task for her, she sleeps a lot but I wouldn’t dream of putting her down until she seems to be in pain. She still gets up when I leave a room, comes up stairs when I go up there for a long period of time, if she were in pain I don’t think she’d do that. Is the only issue that Milo can’t go up and down stairs and he occasionally goes potty in the house (which is a bummer!)? Has the vet suggested any medication? I’ve been giving our dog Costco MSM with something else for joints for years. Not sure if it helps or not but it is inexpensive and the vet says it is a good thing for older pets. We’ve been considering adding a new dog (maybe 1 year old) but I’m worried the new dog will cause the old one to overexert herself and she’ll deteriorate faster. Have you found that to be the case with Milo?
Charlene says
Hi Elene,
He has joint issues and arthritis and he tried to chase a squirrel a few months ago and tore his ACL. His ACL seems to have healed but the back legs are an issue with arthritis. Getting up from sitting takes a bit just like your dog. We did some medication from the vet and it seemed to make him sluggish and I almost felt like he was getting worse. We found supplements from the holistic dog food place and put him on a raw food diet which has helped a lot. But he is grumpy now and can’t hear (unless food is involved and then he hears a wrapper tear from across the house with TV blaring and kids screaming. :D) The baby has not gone over well with Milo. At first he hated Bosley but now he tolerates him. I think Milo is just a grumpy old man that is set in his ways and doesn’t want to share his home and his family with a new kid. So the puppy was not a good idea for Milo but it was a good idea because we have small children and their hearts will be broken once it is time to put Milo down. That was our thinking with Bosley is that it will be easier on our girls to say goodbye. Bosley has adapted well now to the family but we just have to be very mindful that Milo gets petted first and Milo gets first dibs on where to nap and he gets fed first and such and now Milo seems to tolerate the puppy. 😉
