If you have ever tried fancy chalk or chalk markers, you might know that it is really difficult to erase the chalk when you are finished.
I find a paper towel or wet paper towel does the trick for regular chalk but if I want to use something nicer for chalk art it can be incredibly difficult to remove. Paper towels or wet paper towels basically do very little.
I actually don’t like the feeling of chalk on my hands so I love to use dustless chalk. The drawback is that the chalk is really hard to get off a chalkboard.
So I learned a fabulous little tip that you might also like to easily and quickly remove chalk from a chalkboard.
Here is our weekly menu board that hangs in the kitchen. I actually wiped this vigorously with a towel and used a wet towel and still the remains of a few week’s worth of menu ideas stubbornly refused to come off the chalkboard.
It is getting hard to read the week’s menu and this is basically the central point of our kitchen and just looks terrible..
I started thinking I might need to paint it again with black chalk paint but then I learned a super simple solution.
Here is the secret!
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers! If you have children you probably have these guys hanging around the house already. They are so incredibly handy for a variety of things such as:
- Removing tarnish from silverware
- Removing scuffs and marks from walls and baseboards
- Remove grease or soap scum
- Dirt and marks on outdoor furniture
- Scuffs on shoes
- Remove sticker residue
And so much more! These Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are safe to use on tons of surfaces- find a larger list of uses on the back of the package. For tougher jobs, the MICRO SCRUBBERS in the eraser are activated when the eraser is slightly wet.
Now you can add yet another use- try these little Magic Erasers on white boards or chalkboards too!
Seriously I put some elbow grease into the paper towel and nothing. Next I try the Magic Eraser with some pressure:
And good as new in just minutes! I used the Magic Eraser dry but if you have a really tough job ahead of you, try getting it slightly wet will activate those MICRO SCRUBBERS.
In person the chalkboard looks perfectly black. I hope you give this trick a chance as it really worked wonders for me! We have a giant outdoor chalkboard that I actually painted over with chalkboard paint several months ago because there was so much chalk that wouldn’t come off. If I had only known this little secret!
And you can find Mr. Clean Magic Erasers for a great price at your local Costco store along with several other Procter and Gamble Household Needs items. The products we really can’t live without in our home include Tide, Cascade Complete Action Pacs, Bounce, Bounty Advanced, Charmin Ultra Soft and now Mr. Clean Magic Erasers!

Was there any dry time needed before writing on it again?

Just a few seconds Merika. 🙂
