I have a fun and cute little Halloween project for you to do with the kiddos. The nice thing is that this doesn’t require anything fancy and it turns out to be really cute and glittery in person.
You can make these and hang them up on a wall or even the front door for no fuss decorating. We are using these to hang on each of the girl’s bedroom doors because they both wanted to decorate their rooms for Halloween. So boom- one craft and we have officially decorated bedrooms :).
Here are the materials you need:
- Paper plates- I used a foam one
- Black paint- I used a standard acrylic paint that was $.33 at the craft store
- Black Glitter- I found a 3pk of fine glitter at Target in the Dollar Spot section for $3.00
- White Construction paper or Googley eyes
- Black Sharpie
- Pipe Cleaners
- Glue
To start with the kiddos painted the bottom of the foam plates in black. I couldn’t find a washable black paint so just make sure you take extra care with messy clothes and paper to protect the table.
Once the paint dries (this was just a few minutes for us)- brush on a little glue a section at a time and sprinkle your glitter on. Shake excess glitter off on a sheet of paper or another plate and continue to work in sections until you are done.
The fine glitter will give you tons of sparkles so it is really pretty to use. I used a glitter glue but normal Elmer’s should work as well.
Once the plate is covered in glitter and you have shaken off all the excess, fold the paper with the excess glitter and dump it all back into your glitter container for another day.
Now wait for the glitter and glue to dry and then you can adhere the pipe cleaner legs. We choose bright colors and trimmed about 3 inches off the pipe cleaners. Then I bent them to look like legs and glued them on the back of the plate (or tape them).
You can to use a lot of glue or tape as they are heavy and tend to fall off.
I cut free hand white circles from a standard white copy paper and then used the sharpie to color in the eyes.
Technically you need 8 eyes for a Spider but they are so much cuter with just 2.
Here is a close up on the front door so you can see how pretty the glitter is:
And if you give this a shot please let know how your project turned out! I’d love to see your photos on the My Frugal Adventures Facebook wall.
