I have a really easy little project if you have little ones that love race cars. Sometimes it can be tricky to find good storage solutions for small toys.
My four year old loves little race cars and I was always finding them (under my feet, under her bed, on her dresser… just everywhere really.)
So I started putting her little Hot Wheels into a jar I had sitting in the cupboard and called it her Car Jar.
Now let me tell you this absolutely thrilled her. I had no idea a jar would be exciting but she is in love with her car jar. She carries this thing all over the place and heaven forbid I try to put it in the playroom. She will get up in the middle of the night and bring her car jar to the bedroom :).
So I was inspired by these adorable little jars from World Market:
I have seen these same bunny jars all over Pinterest and I always thought they were cute. I have never made them but basically you just find a figurine in the shape you like (army guys, legos, bunnies, Princesses etc..) and glue it to the lid of an old jar and then spray paint. Oh and a bit of glue to hold it on top.
Simple.
I decided to make one for Maya’s cars and originally I used a strong super glue to adhere the car to the top of the lid and then I gave it about 4 coats of spray paint.
What I found though is that the Hot Wheels cars have so many little grooves and such that the lid just didn’t look as nice as I envisioned. So I decided to pop off the painted car and instead put a standard car on the top and just glue it on. Hot Wheels cars have so many fun details and colors – why paint them?
So I think this looks a lot better and it works!
So if you struggle for storage solutions for your little one’s cars, you might try a car jar and see if that works for you.
And here is another easy little project- make a DIY Lego Tray.
