Happy October to you!
I have been enjoying the cooler weather the last week or so. The trees are so gorgeous this time of year and I am stuffing myself with wonderful baked treats as well!
Since it is the 1st of the month I wanted to post your October shopping guide. This is a list of the things that should be on sale and also the fresh produce in season this month. This is a general guide for what to keep an eye out for and what to stock up on this month.
This month we will officially launch into holiday preparations. Lots of baking supplies will be on sale (chocolate chips, flour, sugar etc..) and I actually just bought a quart of Egg Nog this week at the grocery store.
Obviously with Halloween we will see great prices on candy. Typically I try to wait until the last minute to buy candy as retailers do not want to hold onto it after October 31st. We usually see the fun size bags of Mars, Nestle, Hershey’s etc… for $1.00 or less.
After the holidays you can really stock up on Halloween decor for dirt cheap for next year. I actually have a ton of Halloween decor just because Target typically marks it down as much as 90%. One note about Halloween clearance, some people skip over it because they don’t want the candy or whatever. If you have little ones, there are often great deals on small individually packed cookies, pretzels, crackers, chips and more in the Halloween clearance – perfect lunchbox snacks. They also have Playdoh, toys and other little items that are perfect for Christmas stockings- so you might want to take a look at the clearance sales that will start November 1st. One year I got a Halloween themed Barbie doll for about $1.00 so lots of treasures can be found.
We will also see promotions on batteries, fire alarms and other supplies because of the end of Daylight Savings.
There are lots of promotions on pet food and care this month- specifically items for dogs. And lots of Italian foods typically go on sale in October- so a great time to try some new pasta dishes.
Last but not least, the produce we will see on sale includes apples, pomegranates, grapes, squash, cranberries, sweet potatoes and more.
And of course I don’t need to mention that next month the craziness begins. The holiday season will be in full swing and we will all be gearing up for Black Friday sales.

Charlene,
Can you tell me what size bag in oz is the fun size bag that you get for a $1 or less? I want to compare with Costco’s candy bags. Thank you.
Fall is in the air, literally. I got out of the car to shop at Sprouts this morning, and Costco must of been baking pumpkin pies!! It smelled soooo good. 🙂
Sara they will all have slightly different sizes but this is a fun size bag:

For the Costco ones aren’t they usually a mix of yucky candy? Tootsie rolls and those sticks of powder and stuff? Easier to not eat yourself 🙂
