There is a Polar Express event for children that comes along during the holidays. The catch is that tickets go on sale early and they sell out incredibly fast.
In my area, the tickets are on sale October 1st and they sometimes sell out the same day. So I wanted to mention it if people want to check and see if their city is participating. The tickets are kind of expensive so we are still debating if we want to go.
If you are not familiar with this event, it’s basically a train ride on The Polar Express- inspired by the movie. They play holiday music and you get served hot chocolate and cookies. Passengers then get to listen to a reading of The Polar Express book as the train travels to “the North Pole”. There is a meet and greet for the children with Santa and each child gets their own sleigh bell just like in the movie.
Families are encouraged to wear their pajamas for the ride and join in on the magic of Christmas. I have seen such cute pictures of families decked out in coordinating pjs and such- very festive!
You can head over here to get all the information on this event.

No where on the webpage does it tell me how much tickets are and when they go on sale. I’ve never head of this event and I think my boy would love it. Do you have this information?
Our family is going on the Sacramento one this year…so excited! We were able to purchase tickets last week since we bought a one year membership…worth it if you want an advantage in purchasing tickets early.
Melissa,
Did you click on locations? That will redirect you to the local train station hosting the event. From there you will need to search for the tickets. Since each city will have a different train station, I can’t tell you exactly where to look. I randomly checked the Grand Canyon Railway in AZ and when I click the link provided by Polar Express there is a giant box in the middle of the page that says Polar Express. I can click that to get all the details.
My family and I have done this the last few years and always have a great time! It is definitely worth it:)
Ok thanks so much for the feedback Katie. Do you dress up in pj’s or just the kids? I would feel a little silly in downtown Sacramento with pj’s on but I don’t want to be a party pooper.
I’m so bummed they don’t have this year me (and I can’t believe there are none in Southern CA at all). My son would really enjoy this. Maybe next year…
I would encourage you to go. It is so worth it. We went to one in North Carolina and my little boy loved it. We are going to wait a few years and take both of our sons back. We didn’t do pajamas, but I would do them for the kiddos.
