At our house, I woke up at 3am to hear four little feet scampering down the hall to come into our room. This happens with our girls from time to time when they can’t sleep and somehow they have mental telepathy to signal to each other (in different rooms) that one is awake and the other shoots out of her bed.
So it wasn’t a great night of sleep considering my 3 year old clings to me and my five year old likes to sleep the opposite way (her head and feet touching the sides of the bed rather then the top and bottom.) I was thinking this morning though that there are so many families out there that sent off sons or daughters to military service that would trade anything in the world to be able to hear little feet coming down the hallway again. Or giggles at 3am from little ones tickling each other under the covers.
So hopefully today is a wonderful and fun day for you but also a great time to remember those that sacrifice so much for our country. Hopefully you can take a moment to remember what this day is really about and to honor those that serve.
We have been talking to the girls a little here and there about Memorial Day- and every summer we usually try to come up with one service project for the community or a good cause to donate a little extra time. This year we decided to work with our Church to send care packages to troops- we are buying some things to include in care packages, the girls have been writing notes and drawing pictures and then we get to spend a day packing up packages to send overseas.

love this post! so true! thanx for writing it! this past week, i ran by a mailbox that was decorated with a flag and a “welcome home son” sign. and then, a few days later, i drove by a crowd of people in town with flags and wearing red, white and blue. they were apparently there to welcome home that soldier who’s parents house had run by. and i just happend to drive by right at just the minute after he had arrived. he was getting out of a car and walking toward the crowd, shaking his head and smiling as they were all cheering and waving their flags! it was sooo awesome, teared me up! i gotta go leave a card in that mailbox!!
