I posted the list of Free Summer Reading programs for children yesterday and wanted to get started on lots more free and cheap things you can take advantage of this summer.
There are several movie theaters that offer $1.00 tickets all summer long on select dates and times.
Regal Cinemas have already posted the schedule for the summer- it looks like most theaters start in June but a few start in May. You might want to bookmark this post or pin it and check back once school ends.
You can see the movies at 10am on Tuesday or Wednesday for just $1.00 per person. This does tend to be pretty popular in my area so be sure to get there early. Last year I saw a lot of people turned away- especially in July and August when it gets really hot outside.
So here is the list of movies- these run for 9 weeks:
1 The Three Stooges
1 Ice Age: Continental Drift
2 Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
2 Parental Guidance
3 Mr. Poppers’ Penguins
3 Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
4 Monte Carlo
4 Rio
5 Coraline
5 ParaNorman
6 Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax
6 Big Miracle
7 Yogi Bear
7 Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
8 Racing Stripes
8 Happy Feet Too
9 African Cats
9 Chimpanzee
And you can select your city from the list of Regal Cinemas here and see when the movie express starts in your area.

Hi Charlene,
I will be checking this out for the first time tomorrow with the kiddos. How early would you recommend gettin there?
Thanks in advance,
Em
BTW, I’ve really enjoyed your summer series 🙂

Thanks Rie! I know last summer if I did 20 min I was OK. If I did 15 min they would be sold out. I am sure this will vary by theater but tomorrow it will be 111 in Sacramento and I bet our local theater is a madhouse, plus a lot of people have 3 days off work. That kind of thing you want to keep in mind.

Thank you! We made it in! They oversold the movie and a lot of disappointed kids/family had to go home and get a refund. You were absolutely right about the popularity of this program and the timing.
