So Valentine’s Day when you have little angels underfoot is a little different then Valentine’s Day according to Cosmo magazine.
We usually celebrate Valentine’s Day with our little darlings and I always have fun doing special things for them. Luckily we have babysitting volunteers for the weekend so my hubs and I can actually go out to a nice dinner and spend a little time discussing something other then Princesses or the potty.
I thought I would toss out a few things we have going on just in case any of you need last minute inspiration.
I don’t spend a ton of money on Valentine’s Day but I do like to get the girls a few things.
Here is what we have going on:
Breakfast- my wonderful husband already whipped up some heart shaped pancakes so I can heat those up with fresh berries for a surprise at breakfast.
Lunch- I know the girls are going to have obscene amounts of sweets so I bought their very favorite fruits to make big fruit salads for lunch. My hope is that this entices them to eat something other then cookies and candy. They love watermelon in particular so we cut that into little hearts to make it more fun.
Dinner- My main goal for dinner is to avoid arguments. Seriously in this house we can never sit down to a meal without someone being a stinker about something on their plate. The one single thing we all like is pizza so that is what I plan to have for dinner.
We typically just grab raw dough from the grocery store and shape it into little hearts and then everyone gets to add the toppings of their choice. My little girl and my husband are pepperoni pizza and olives, my big girl is cheese and tomato and Mommy likes pesto, artichokes and goat cheese.
As for dessert, I am all about enjoying decadent things in moderation so off to Whole Foods where I picked up these little chocolate bowls of heaven. If anyone asks let’s just pretend I made that myself.
And as for presents-
My girls go nuts for balloons and these nicer ones are only $1 each at Dollar Tree. So I got a car load of balloons today and we will leave them in front of their doors for a surprise in the morning.
The girls also got a few little gifts- Adriana got a necklace she has been desperate for from Carter’s and Maya got a few new books (75% off at Barnes and Noble!). Plus I thought Hula Hoops might be fun- so those were just $1 at Dollar Tree.
They each got a lollipop and we planned a little family activity to see Disney on Ice this weekend.
I did one more little thing for bath time. I posted these really easy little bath gels a long time ago– well I made a batch and put them in a heart shaped ice cube tray. A little red food coloring and it will make the bath so much more fun.
And as for the hubs… well we aren’t much for big extravagant gifts. We typically don’t spend a ton on gifts for each other and instead try to use the money we would have spent for vacations and weekend trips. I got him a Tervis Seahawks tumbler from Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Really this is a cheap alternative to marriage counseling because I hope it means he will quit swiping my tumblers. Win- win! I filled it up with Haribo Cola Bottle candy which is his favorite.
I also picked up a subscription to Family Handyman as inspiration for future home improvement projects.
Last but not least, I printed out these free little Love notes from ChickaBug blog and wrote a little note to each girl. There are so many things that make them special so I just told them a few things we love most about them.
And for Daddy the girls did a cute little heart handprint card like you see above (currently drying). We did cards for Grandma and Grandpa as well.
So does anyone else have fun ideas for little things to do on Valentine’s Day?

Those are great ideas! Do you know where I can buy some good pancake molds! Funny enough I bought a tervis cup for my daughter from bed bath and beyond and filled it with lindor chocolates!
Great minds think alike!

Thank you Nicole :). The only idea I have for pancake molds is Williams Sonoma. Sometimes they run really good clearance sales.

Very cute…we do similar things at my house. We made homemade heart-shaped pizzas last year but this year we are picking up the Heartbreaker pizza at Papa Murphy’s! 🙂 I made my son a heart-shaped sandwich in his lunch and my daughter a heart-shaped quesadilla and they are getting little gift bags of things at dinnertime.

Fun Rachel! I saw that pizza but heaven forbid we all eat the same thing for once ;p.
