Toys R Us: Backpack Sale

Well ya’ll it is officially time to start talking about Back to School. In my area, my girls have only been on Summer Vacation for about 3 weeks but in other areas school starts back up at the end of July.

So I have to admit that the Back to School sales get me panicking a little about all the things to do… I don’t know why when we still have about 7 weeks left of vacation but I still get into hurry up mode.

What I have found is that you typically get the best sales at the start of a season and at the end of a season.  In my area the school supply clearance deals were nonexistent last year- and since my girls were not in school I took my time and held out hoping for super clearance deals.

Instead what I found was empty shelves before the clearance sales even started really so this year I plan to shop earlier.

So I will stop blabbering on and tell you that Toys R Us is offering a free lunch kit (valued at $9.99) with purchase of a backpack priced $12.99+ this week.

Now last year they basically ran this same promotion for weeks and weeks but the new twist is that if you take an old backpack in to recycle, they will give you an extra 20% off.

This is actually an excellent deal and if you shop now, you can get the best pick of the styles available.

I think I am going to take my little girl in to get her backpack this week.

Reader Dallas was kind enough to send in her transaction:

1 Ariel backpack $14.99
1 Ariel lunchbox $9.99
Total = $24.98

minus the $9.99 (free lunchbox)
minus the 20% off for recycling an old backpack

Total paid was $12.29 (including tax!)

And here is her adorable little lady with her backpack ready for Kindergarten.  I think $13 for both of those items is pretty fantastic.

And by the way, you can check out this super easy way to make your own healthy and inexpensive Uncrustables to put in those lunchboxes.

LOL- we got the Ariel backpack today but they were already out of the lunchbox so I had to get a Tangled one. The selection was surprisingly small.

Yeah yesterday they only had one mermaid lunch box left. It looked like there were where only maybe 5 in stock at some point. She must be popular!

I hope they still have some good ones in. My daughter starts preschool this year and is all day 2 days a week so she needs a back pack and a lunch box! What a deal!

    Danielle,

I personally found the backpacks at TRU to be a little big for a preschooler. These were big for my soon to be Kindergartener. We have the little preschool backpacks- my favorite are these Skip Hop ones:

So I just wanted to mention that :). At our Kindergarten orientation the teachers specifically said that they wanted the kids to have big backpacks not the preschool ones so we got the Ariel one pictured. It is really big though and my 4 1/2 yo is pretty tall for her age. There is no way my 3 year old could manage her sister’s backpack.

Your store might have a better selection though. It seemed like mine was pretty limited.
