Yeah it is a $5 purchase EC but there is a thing in the ad about a $2 credit when you recycle an old binder. I don’t know if they adjust the price down on that to $1 or if you’d get an extra $1 off other items.
OK, I will bring my kids’ ratty old binders from last year & see what deal I can get from Staples! 🙂 I was about to trash the old binders, but thanks for the tip…
Pardon the newb question, but when Staples advertises an item for $0.01 that is limit 2 with $5 purchase, can I purchase 2 for the special price if I buy at least $5 of other items, or do I need to purchase $10 of other items in order to get 2? How about when doing multiple penny deals? E.g., if I want to get 2 of the writing pads and 2 of the dividers for $0.01 each, do I need to spend $5, $10, or $20 on other items? Thanks!

It is confusing so not to worry. You need to spend $5 and that puts you in the clear to get all the penny deals you want. If there are 3 penny deals you want, you would not need to spend $15 you just need to spend $5 in total. If you want multiples of the same items you can do that too as long as you have a grand total of $5.00. You just want to watch the limits on the items- if dividers have a limit of 2 for example and you buy 3, the first two will come up at $.01 and the third one will be full price.

Thank you for the info on Recycling Old Binders for $2-off! It worked with the Avery Durable Binder Deal — so 2 FREE BINDERS, plus overage towards other items in my transaction. I did this:
Buy 1 Staples Multiuse Paper $6.99
Buy 2 Avery Durable 1 inch Binders @ $1 = $2.00
Buy 2 Avery Insertable Dividers @ $0.01 ea = $0.02
Buy 2 Staples Writing Pads @ $0.01 ea = $0.02
Sub Total: $9.03
Used “coupons”:
I handed over my 2 ratty old binders for recycling. Cashier then scanned a barcode kept near the register for each ratty binder. It deducts $2 per ratty binder at the bottom of receipt.

Final: $5.03, plus CA tax. Submit for Easy Rebate $5.99 for the Paper.

I found blinky machine in Staples giving $2-off Martha Stewart Avery Label coupons. I quickly looked in the Martha aisle and saw several nice labels priced $2, but didn’t try buying. There were embossable gift labels, and color coding organizing labels … possible free after the coupon.
