Target: Possible Clearance on Kindles and Accessories

UPDATE:  Please understand this is merely speculation and rumor and there is absolutely NO guarantee from Target that this will happen.  If you are in the mood for a little treasure hunt please read on for a little rumor about Kindles at Target stores….

So reader Jenna passed on a great tip.

It appears that Target stores have a great deal cooked up with Apple and some of the Target stores will have little mini-Apple stores coming soon!  (Super cool Target!)

But along with that little plan, they have also decided to stop carrying Kindle products.  So it is widely rumored that Target will start to clearance the Kindle items- possibly as early as tomorrow (5/3).

Now they are supposed to start at 30% off and then move to 50% off and finally 75% off.

None of this is official word although the news outlets are reporting this info already (see article from Yahoo here and article from MSN here).

If they do start at 30% and not 15% off, that would surprise me but we can keep our fingers crossed and see what happens.  My suspicion is that most people will snatch these guys up immediately- especially at my store- so I wouldn’t hold your breath for 50% or 75% off but we can all dream right?

This also should include all the Kindle accessories, so if you intend to get a Kindle or give one as a gift this might be a time to keep an eye out for covers and other things to go with your device.

If you decide to start scoping out your store, I would love to hear what you find!

*In case you missed it, Amazon is offering a fantastic deal on the Kindle Fire today so you can get one of those without leaving the house.

Thanks Jenna!

I am going to bet that they will instantly go to 75% off- because I JUST bought one from Target and that is just how my life works. 🙂

Did you also hear about the Kindle deal at Walmart this week? Every Kindle you buy comes with a $30 Walmart gift card. So I paid $79 and got a $30 gift card. It’s a sweet deal!

Yes Kristen I did hear about that. I posted it Sunday morning:

I called both Targets in my area, they both told me the Kindle has a set price from Amazon. He said they are definitely going to stop carrying them, but he highly doubts they will go on clearance. I’m bummed. ;[

    Jessica,

I am sorry you read that as a promise they would go on clearance and you are disappointed. It was just speculation and I tried my best to let people know it was only speculation with no guarantees at all. My store took the Kindle cases out of the store today and replaced them with iPad cases. They put the Kindles on a regular end rack. So as I said in the post, I would be surprised if they did hit even 30% off but the fact that they moved them to an end rack suggests they might just put them on clearance to get rid of them. I think the accessories are probably going to be a better bet for great deals. If they do hit 15% off it really isn’t that much of a savings from what you get on Amazon. In my area, 15% off would save me about $7-14 from what I can just stay at home and pay from Amazon so I would only be interested if they hit 30% off or more.

Also, I personally don’t usually trust the information one single employee passes along to me. 😉

My husband works as the lead over the electronics department at Target. He said that *maybe* they might decide to do some clearance pricing eventually (though unlikely), but as of right now there has been absolutely no announcement to clearance it. He also stated that moving an item to an end cap doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be clearanced…just that they try to more prominently feature it so they can make sales (and in this case, get rid of it).

Thank you, though, for making sure you posted this as speculation. We’ve come across several sites reporting it as truth…and he’s dealt with several customers getting upset at him as a result….as if it’s HIS fault that sites are incorrectly reporting it.

    Mary,

They did offer the gift card this week which was my thought on what they would do. I was thinking they might bonus out a gift card offer rather than doing an actual clearance. It seems like they moved them to an end cap because the Kindle case disappeared and they replaced it with the iPad case.
