I made something a little different today and thought I would share the recipe since it was so simple and turned out really well.
I was making my children apple and cheddar sandwiches today and decided to try and do a little grown-up twist for mine.
I had some raisin bread on hand and slathered one side with butter and the other side with fig preserves. I thinly sliced up a few green apples and layered those on top of the jam.
Then I added a few slices of brie cheese on top of the apples. I am a vegetarian so that was it for me but you could also add a slice of prosciutto for an extra kick.
I just grilled it up for a few seconds on the stove and voila!
A little twist on a plain grilled cheese. This would be a great breakfast sandwich when you are craving something sweet.
(My children did take a few bites and both of them loved the fig, raisin bread and apples but they avoided the brie.)

yum!!! Trader Joe’s sells an awesome fig butter–and mango, apple, etc! but I love their fig with their individually wrapped goat cheese’s they sell too. lunchtime!
yummy! reminds me of a sandwich i once ordered at a fancy restaurant . . . toasted cinnamon raisin bread, granny smith apple slices, natural peanut butter, and a couple slices of bacon. Sounds weird but it was really yummy!!!
Oh I think that sounds good. Minus the bacon 😉
That sounds great! I have those ingredients and will try it sometime.
Which reminds me of something priced well @ Costco. I just picked up 2 8 oz rounds of Rouge et Noir Triple Cream Brie for $9.89. One 8oz round of the same brand is priced somewhere between $6-$7 at Nob Hill/Raley’s and Safeway. I also hear great things about Costco breads and noticed that they sell their sliced wheat bread for $3.99 for 2 loaves @ 2 lb each loaf. That’s cheap! The grocery store loaves range from 10 oz to 24 oz.
I just made your sandwiches for lunch today and they were a big hit! I’d never heard of that combination, but as I read your post I thought the ingredients all sounded sooooo good, and it was! Thanks for sharing.
Really Julie? I am so glad! Thanks for letting me know.
