This might be a good weekend to grab an extra paper or two if you can get them for a good price. There are several great coupons that are scheduled including a $3 off Iams Dog Food or Cat Food coupon in 1/29 P&G. Just remember to check your inserts before you buy extra copies of the paper.
Target has small bags of Iams priced at $3.00 exactly- so free with coupon. The coupon does not have any size restrictions so it should be fine to use on these bags.
I actually get my P&G insert a few days early so I already went to Target and the coupons went through just fine. There is a limit of 4 coupons total per transaction.
Not all Target stores carry this size bag but certainly worth keeping an eye out.
I found bags that said there was a $3 coupon inside on the front. The coupon is valid for another $3 off a bag 13.5lbs+. So make sure you grab those out too because Iams coupons are hard to find.
You might also check out these deals:
- Target ad for 1/22 matchups

- Soups and Canned Tomatoes as low as .28
- Cheap Playdoh, Rice and Skinny Cow Candy
- Lipton Tea for just $.62

I bought these last time around with that $3 coupon and some of the bags had $1.50/1 can coupons as well as the $3/1 (bigger bag). The cans are $1.29 at target and the coupons gave overage. 🙂

Does anyone know if the cat food is priced the same?

I don’t use this brand of dog food, but I think I will get some and donate them to the local animal shelter.

How did you get your coupons ahead of time? Also, how do you find out which coupons are scheduled to come out? Just wondering..

I went to Target in South Gate, CA and the cashier refused to take my coupons. She said they have been told not to accept coupons if it results in an item being free. How disappointing that they are not properly trained on taking coupons. This is the 2nd time they do this to me in the last month. I guess it’s time to find the next closest Target.

Thank you! Thank you! My Target has the trial size for $3. I had to pay the tax but both bags were free and both had the coupons in them! I am going back again hopefully tomorrow. The coupon from the bag says a limit of four like coupons per same shopping trip. I also double couponed Tide and Puffs. It was significant savings. Thank you!

@Livy I feel your pain about buying cat food! I’m a cat owner and a couponer, and some days it feels like I spend more to feed my cats than I do to feed myself! LOL. It took me a while, but I finally found a good brand at a price I can live with. Here are my tips for “Couponing with Cats.”
1. Adjust your expectations: Cat food will always and forever be more expensive than dog food. It will never be a free item. It’s not fair, but it’s the truth.
2. Shop by the pound: Always take a calculator with you to the store or use the one on your phone. The price per pound should be your deciding factor, not your price per bag. Usually the smallest bags are the best deals after coupons, but not always!
3. Consider quality. There are major differences between basic, mid, and premium grade cat foods. Do your research and decide what you want out of a cat food before you buy. Decide what grade you want first. Then figure out what coupons are available for that grade of cat food.
4. Know your retail, sales and buy prices. Premium cat food (Iams, Purina One/Beyond) runs about $2-$3/lb. Buy price (after coupons and sales)=$1-$1.50/lb. (If anyone actually shop for these brands, feel free to correct me.)
Midgrade cat food (Whiskas, Purina Cat Chow) usually runs about $1.75-$2/lb. Buy price after sales and coupons, $0.50-$0.75/lb. You may also consider buying this from Sams or Costco, if you have a membership. You can usually get the 18 lb bags for about $12, so $0.67/lb. I personally buy Whiskas, and as of my last shopping trip, got a fantastic deal of $0.57/lb. I think this is where you get the best bang for your buck.
Basic cat food (Friskies, Meow Mix) usually sells at about $1-$1.50/lb. Sometimes these go on BOGO in grocery stores, so a buy price would be as low as $0.45/lb (If you shop these brands, feel free to correct me.)
A possible deal for you this week may be at Kmart. They are doubling up to $1 MFG coupons a couple of days this week(lots of limitations, so check your ad carefully). There is a fairly high value MFG Whiskas $1/1 (any) dry cat food coupons. (So doubled, is $2) I expect their price should be pretty similar to Walmart and Target…
Anyway, hope that helps! Happy couponing!
