Novartis OTC Recall (Excederin, Bufferin, Gas X and No Doz)

01/09/2012 By Charlene 20 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

If you have purchased Excedrin, Bufferin, Gas X or No Doz recently you might check out the Novartis recall going on right now.

This is specifically for bottles of Excedrin or NoDoz that expire prior to 12/20/14 OR Bufferin and Gas X that expires prior to 12/20/13.

The packages have chipped tablets as well as stray tablets from other products, so you are advised to contact Novartis directly at 1-888-477-2403 or you can fill out the Novartis recall form here for a refund of the suggested selling price plus $2 for postage.

Thanks Shannon!

That makes me so sad………. I have a small stockpile of Excedrin: Im so ashamed to mention how many I have. I think I might have my hubby make that call for me.

Thanks to CVS deals, I have quite a few Excedrin. I wonder how many they will honor per person.

So if we have them and we submit the form, are we supposed to send the bottles back or just discard them???

On the news report I heard, it said that it may contain opiate drugs like percocet- Here’s a link to a consumer reports story:http://news.consumerreports.org/safety/2012/01/fda-warns-of-opiate-drug-mix-up-for-products-packaged-by-novartis.html
    Hope this helps.

I was going to say the same thing. I wonder what they will say about how many I have to turn back in…..and now I don’t have any in my stockpile anymore.

Oh gosh!I just took 2 a couple hours ago for my headache!

Yeah, I had a lot of all of them in my stockpile as well. Scary though to think about how many bottles of Excedrin that I have used though and ingested….

I’m annoyed too. I get migraines a lot and have quite a stockpile too. And ironically took excedrine for a migraine today and just woke up. Glad that pill was ok!

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe this. Opiate is a narcotic and if it leaked into the Excedrin or No Doz tablets then anyone who has taken these pills needs to print the news article because if you get randomly drug tested you can turn out positive which will put your job in jeopardy. This is ridiculous. This is what is making me go all natural in order to stay healthy and avoid issues like this.

Do we need to fill out a form for each bottle? And does anyone know if we are to return the product. I would think so since it said they would be giving $2,00 for shipping. I got through on the phone number once and it said my call might be monitored then all of a sudden it went to a busy signal.

I think you have to return the actual bottles….at least that is what I interpret from the ‘Novartis Recall’ link in Charlene’s post. But, I guess it is unclear if it is $2 p&h reimbursement per bottle or total? Have to keep trying their phone line…..

Uh-oh! I get pretty bad migraines too and jumped at the deal for Excederine Migraine, bought 4 bottles….I took one pill a couple of afternoons ago and couldn’t sleep a wink that night, I usually can without issues after I take excederin, but I was ultra wired & jittery…had no clue why, now I see this, yikes! I attributed it to the caffeine in it, I hope its all it was! : O

I decided to just buy a flat rate shipping box and send mine all back without talking to them. I can’t get through on the phones so I will just mail them and hope I get a check later.

I have a bottle that’s in the recall of Excedrin Migraine. It is almost gone because I use it so much. This is pretty scary! I just called the number to see if we in fact had to send in the bottle and they said you do. You can ship it to them however you want. Just wanted to let you guys know who haven’t gotten through yet.

I got through on the phone today, and the lady said to do one form per bottle, but you can mail all the bottles in the same box. She went through each lot number and UPC with me over the phone so it’s all in their system when they get my package. Took me a few times to get through on the phone but I hope that helps those of you that haven’t gotten through yet. Just do one form per bottle, mail them all together with the forms in the box. She also said they’d reimburse $2 S&H per bottle. So we’ll see what they actually do when they send my check back! ๐Ÿ™‚

I got through on the phone line this morning and the rather flustered person I spoke with said yes–you have to fill out a separate form for each bottle and yes–you have to mail them to the address on the top of the form. BUT, I forgot to ask about the shipping reimbursement. It will surely cost me more than $2.00 to mail my 6 bottles back, but will I get reimbursed $12 for shipping? If anyone finds out, I’d love to know.

I got through and had the exact same info as Kirsten posted. Fill out one form per bottle, you can mail them all together & must return the product as well. Reimbursement is $2 per bottle. Best of luck.

To clarify, reimbursement is $2 shipping and handling per bottle; plus whatever the current selling price is on each product.

    Thanks for the info!

Does anyone have a saved copy of the PDF Refund Form? The link is not working. Thanks!
