Well we have been talking about the $10 gift card at Target when you spend $75. This is supposed to run tonight and tomorrow morning. Just a quick word of warning, it appears the gift card has two important points:
1. It is only working on transactions of $75 or more after all coupons.
2. It appears to only be on items featured in the 2 day sale ad and nothing else Um OK so nevermind on that.
This is just the feedback I have so far- if your experience is different let us know!

I got the card for regular groceries, my total was above $75 after coupons.
I did it in San Bruno, CA store. I bought the Elmo, 2 Barbies, 2 squinkies, 3 beyblades and 2 books. Worked fine.
I don’t think that’s the case for me. I went to target this afternoon after 5 and I bought a bunch of things that were not in the ad and I still got the $10 GC after spending more than $75.
I did this transaction twice today without any issues. I bought two Wii remotes not on sale for 39.99 each, used two $5 target coupons on them which came to $75 and some change and the gift card was prompted. The second transaction was mostly groceries and a few clothing items and the gift card was prompted. The guy ahead of me got a kitchenaid and also got a gift card. Their weren’t any restrictions on what could be purchased according to the registers at my store in NY.
I purchased mostly items that were not on sale and the gift card triggered.
Here is the fine print I seen.
“In-Store FRIDAY 5 PM–SATURDAY NOON ONLY.
Limit one per guest. Single transaction after subtotal (after all applicable discounts). Free $10 Target GiftCard® offer valid on a single, in-store transaction of $75 or more based on merchandise subtotal (after all applicable discounts). Offer valid Friday, December 16, 5 pm – close, and Saturday, December 17, open – noon. Sales tax, Target gift cards and prepaid cards, prescriptions, clinic services, Target Optical® eye exams, Target Mobile® and alcohol will not be included in determining merchandise subtotal. Not valid on previous purchases. Limit one free GiftCard per qualifying transaction, per guest. If any portion of the qualifying purchase is returned, the refund value will be reduced by the prorated amount of the free GiftCard. Terms and conditions apply to GiftCards.”
Yes, these points, well at least the first point was true for me. I went to get the Elmo toy and some other items. I had coupons that brought my total down to $35 from a $92.00 total. However, the gift card would not work, because the transaction was well below $75.00. A manager came over and grabbed up some store print out that the employees got which showed all the deals for this 2 day sale and the fine print read that the $10 gift card should be for “any transaction” as long as it totals $75 or more “after all discounts”. According to the store all the coupons are considered discounts so I didnt receive a gift card but I still got a heck of a great deal! Thank you so much for posting the Elmo toy deal. My store had TONS of them so I was able to get one for my 2 year old nephew and one for my daughter. I cant wait to see how they react. My nephew goes crazy over Elmo!
Thanks again,
Andrea ~
I just got one tonight. Your #1 point is correct. It is the final total after coupons and before tax. But, I bought groceries along with my other purchases and that worked fine.
I don’t know if this has been mentioned but the Nintendo 3DS was on sale for the special sale for $149.99 and is qualified for the $10 giftcard.
I just got home from Target and it worked for me! It is after all coupons, but I only had one item in my transaction that was featured in the 2-day ad (Ice Age Christmas DVD). Everything else was groceries and cleaning supplies. Hope this helps!
Just went there and bought a ham, cat food and other random items. Total after coupons and before tax was two dollars short so I added some gum and got the gift card for spending $75 before tax and after coupons 🙂
I got a $10 giftcard back tonight with $76.43 in purchases before tax. It wasn’t just for stuff featured in the 2 day ad. I had a mix of all sorts of stuff. Got to the register and the sub-total before tax and after discounts was less than $75.. barely. So I added on 2 rolls of wrapping paper to kick me over.
I don’t know about coupons since I didn’t use any (I know gasp!) but none of the items I bought were part of the sales ad and I still got the gift card.
It is after all coupons, unfortunately, but I purchased some clearance items and a few other things that weren’t in the ad. I had to suspend my transaction the first time and go find more items to bring the final total (after coupons) above $75. So, in the end, it was kind of a huge pain…which was disappointing because I love Target.
The gift card wouldnt trigger for me either, I was at $75.31 before coupons (I bought the glade deal too). The manager couldn’t figure it out so she just took $10 off my most expensive item and then did my coupons. I heard her telling others at the registers that the total should be $75 pre-tax and pre-coupon and if the gift card didn’t trigger to manually take $10 off the purchase.
I just got back from Target and I purchased the Elmo (which prompted the cashier to give me the $10 gift card) and other random things which I also had a few coupons for. When I hit $75 (the total was $77 and some change) the cashier asked someone to come put a code in or something to trigger the $10 giftcard for going over $75….. then I gave her my coupons which brought my total down to $57.14!! So $37.14 with the two $10 giftcards I got back!!
My trip is too much to write about. BUT, when I realized a mistake I had made, the customer service desk told me the gift card is qualified for by subtotal, BEFORE coupons and tax. She was sure to point this out because my receipt showed that I had used several coupons.
Had a great trip yeasterday and my cashier was so nice. No Elmos on shelf and they checked in back and found one. Yes. The reason I loved my cashier was that on the glade purchase she checked to make sure I could use my combination of coupons with a manager instead of just entering them and not being able to give them back if the deal didn’t work out properly. She was very knowledgable and I appreciated that. For all the last minute glade shoppers if you need to get some ziploc products like I did many of bothe the Ziploc bags and containers said containes $5 in Glade coupons. I purchased those packages and used the coupons inside for Glade stuff and got my Glade Items for free after $5 GC.
I got mine up to over 75 before coupons and just under with coupons and the cashier gave me the gift card.
It’s sad that I even have to write this, but watch carefully when you’re doing the gift card deals at Target. I had a cashier try to swap out my $5 gift card that I got when doing the Glade deal for a blank gift card last week. I saw her do it and took the blank gift card right up to customer service without saying a word about it to the cashier and they dealt with it.
I went in to Target last night and bought the CHI and received both the $20 gift card for the CHI and the $10 for spending $75. 🙂
