Safeway: Scrubbing Bubbles Cleaning Kits $.49 ea!

Reader Amanda passed along a great deal last night at Safeway. I wanted to check it out in store before posting and I found exactly the same deal she mentioned.

This week the Scrubbing Bubbles Starter Toilet Cleaner kits are priced at $4.99
Plus they are Buy One Get One Free through Tues 9/20.

So grab the $4 off Scrubbing Bubbles coupon and you pay just $.99 for 2.

I did this exact transaction myself this afternoon and it worked perfect! These are normally $10 each so this is an excellent deal.

*PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Ok some people had trouble with this one and readers Ali and Evan figured out why.  There are TWO packages- the one pictured above says Refill + Free Starter in yellow and red on the right side.  That is the one that works.  The one pictured below without the free refill is NOT included and does not work.

my local (Randall’s) Safeway in Houston does not have them as part of the promo. $10.99 each :O

Hey Lucy, did you catch my note at the bottom? They were marked at $10.99 at my store and then I noticed the display. Did you actually take it over to ask for a price and you would also need to enter your club card to make sure they gave you the correct price.

The sign in the pic on your site says BOGO….I thought you can not use a coupon on a free item?

  5. Gina Chatterson says

    09/10/2011 at 2:47 PM

or is this not really a BOGO but a price reduction to 4.99 each?

  6. Charlene says

    09/10/2011 at 4:39 PM

Gina you are not using a coupon on a free item. This is how the deal looks:

    Buy 1 at $4.99
Buy 2nd one and get it free

Use one single coupon for $4 off
    Final Price: $.99

So you are not using a coupon on a free item in that scenario.

I just bought 4 for 1.98 total!!! And it gets better…..in each box, there are 2 coupons for $3/1 Starter kit and a BOGO coupon for the refills!! Guess where I am going back?!?! They will be 1.99 for 2 but still an awesome deal!!

    09/10/2011 at 5:00 PM

Jennifer, there is supposed to be a $4 coupon in the paper tomorrow too.

I just went to check out the price and at my store it was $10.99. Did a price check with a club card and it was not on sale nor a buy one get one free deal on it at all. I had the store manager look it up as well and she said it never was part of the buy one get one free deal.

Oh too bad. This must be a regional thing. Really odd.

I’m in VA and oh boy I got 4 for $1.98 too!!! Transaction went through smoothly! Thanks Charlene and Amanda!

My store had the same problem. On the shelp they were 10.99 but they had a display with the 4.99 sign and BOGO. It also rang up 10.99, the cashier changed the price of 1 of them and the manager had her put in a store coupon for 10.99 for the other. She then put in the 4.00 coupon, so all in all it ended up the same .99 for 2. I am out in arizona…

You have to be careful with this deal because you have to get the boxes marked as “refill + free holder”. The refills are BOGO at 4.99 at Safeway which is the reason this deal works. You are actually buying the refill and the you are getting the holder for free from the manufacturer. The regular starter kit is priced at the higher amount and IS NOT included in the BOGO deal. Surprisingly our coupons for $4 off the starter kit still work (thank goodness). Just got back from Safeway and bought 4 of these. Hope this helps! Evan

Just got back from Safeway – no go in my Nor Ca store. Rang up as $10.99 with club card and no BOGO. Boo.

I did this deal earlier and grabbed 2 from the shelf and 2 from an endcap where it had a sign for the bogo. rang up to $23.15 and realized i got charged regular price for the 2 that I grabbed from the shelf. Same product but different barcodes. So the ones with the yellow strip that says “refill + FREE” is the bogo item for 4.99 but the ones on the shelves will ring up regular price. Got my refund so Im glad I was able to at least find the 2 on the endcap 🙂 I did check another safeway and they were all out of the ones on sale

I’m in the East Bay (CA) and it worked perfectly.

I just did this deal. I didn’t know it, but there are also $2 off Just4U coupons also. I bought 2 and 2-$2 off ecoupons came off to make them $0.99/2. Of course I didn’t realize it at the time and handed over my $4/1 printable – which caused one of the $2 ecoupons to void. The other $2 ecoupon stayed. So I got 2 + $1 overage. Woohoo!

I realized the same thing about the different boxes yesterday. I had 3 of the ones with the yellow part on the box and 1 that was regular. I used the self checkout and had the lady come over when the 1 rang up for 10.99. She ended up letting me scan one that were ringing up for $4.99 again instead of the other since they were the same thing. HOWEVER, I put one in my bathroom last night and I HATE IT!!! It sprays out of the toilet. Sadly, this is one good deal that I’m not going to profit on…they just don’t work well for my elongated toilet seats. 🙁 Anyone in the East Bay, CA want to buy 3 for $2? HAHAHA

  19. Karen says

    09/11/2011 at 7:15 PM

OK, so if I understand this correctly, the package that scans for $4.99 BOGO, says that it is a refill with a free holder. If that’s the case, then the $4 coupon shoudl NOT be used for this product. The $4 coupon specifically states “Starter Kit”. This is NOT the Starter Kit… Just my opinion… 🙁

  20. Charlene says

    09/11/2011 at 7:32 PM

Karen, I can see your concern but I have to disagree. I checked the package very carefully. The package is 100% identical to the starter kit that is pictured on the coupon with the one exception that there is a yellow stripe that says “refill + free holder.” The other wording on the package is totally and completely identical. The normal kits do not say “starter kit” they say One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner and the verbage on the bonus box is exactly the same. I believe it is a starter kit myself because if it wasn’t a starter kit you wouldn’t have the base to get started, it would just have a refill inside. That is just my opinion though and as always if you feel uncomfortable with something I would go with your gut.

    09/12/2011 at 12:23 AM

It is a starter kit, but with a bonus(the free holder), refills are sold without box, just the can.
I can’t believe the negative attitude of some cashiers at Safeway, today , when doing this deal at safeway , got 2 of them the first ring at 4.99 and the second free, and when i show the 4 off Q she examined carefully the Q scaned and when the total went to .99 she yelled there is something wrong with this, i gotta do it again from scrap, then again .99 total, thus i said heyyyyy I’am not stealing nothing I’am just basically paying with coupons… after that, she refused to complete the transaction arguing she is going to get in trouble…. OMG It was sooooo embarrasing the long line waiting behind me and looking at me….
Finally, i just wanted to save a drama, and took the 2 Scrubbing Bubbles packages and cheked with other really really cool cashier, no questions at all, just paid .99 plus tax .
Sometimes for things like this I feel is too hard to be a couponer. =(

  22. Karen says

    09/12/2011 at 5:58 AM

Yes, I agree, we should all “go with our gut”. This happens quit a bit in the couponing world. There are a lot of gray areas and I have found that some people see things differently. Just because the coupon “works”, doesn’t mean that’s what the manufacturer intended…

Is this deal eligible for a rain check ? Coupon or not, it’s a good deal at 2/4.99 🙂 I wasn’t able to locate it at my Safeway in WA state (Lakewood) but I have my fellow coup troopers keeping an eye out and checking it any of the bogos(they have a lot of good deals right now 🙂 ) can get a raincheck

  24. Charlene says

    09/12/2011 at 1:31 PM

Brenda, I am not sure how that would work… I don’t see how they could give you a raincheck if they don’t carry the product? If they do carry it and the store is just out I would think you could get a raincheck.
