Ok so yesterday someone mentioned on the My Frugal Adventures Facebook wall “who has time to cut coupons” and trust me- I totally get it. I really get just being too busy to add one more thing onto your plate and I was thinking about that comment all day.
Then last night we decided to have an impromptu football party today and I decided to run out to grab a few things for the party. I didn’t take any time to look for coupons or really plan it out. Let me tell you, it is not often I go into stores without a plan and yesterday I nearly threw up at the register. I grabbed just a few random things- and the bill wound up at $40.00. I actually didn’t even get half the items on my list because I couldn’t stomach the prices!
Now $40 isn’t going to break the bank and I had close to that leftover from last week anyway, but nonetheless to pay $40 and come home with buffalo wing sauce, bread, blue cheese, butter and just a few misc ingredients but no real food got me thinking…. how can you afford NOT to cut coupons. Crazy how expensive everything is getting these days!
Ok so enough about me… and now back to you. If you want to take a break from the grocery store this week, or if you want to stock up on things that are not normally discounted (like produce etc..), OR if you just don’t have time to deal with coupons here is a nice deal for you.
You can still get free home delivery on a $50 grocery store order from Safeway.com, Vons.com or Genuardis.com with coupon code: EASY7.
This is only available to new accounts that have never had grocery delivery before.
On top of that, if you go through Shop at Home first, they are offering $20 cash back on your Safeway.com order.
You can go through Shop at Home for your first Vons.com order as well and get $20 or if you shop at Genuardis.com, start with Shop at Home and get $6.00 cash back.
So this is actually a really great deal, especially since this week really isn’t that exciting as far as deals go.
I used to talk about the grocery delivery all the time when they also offered an extra $10 off and I personally liked the service. I found it was very easy, I got everything I asked for just fine and it was brought right into the kitchen and left on my counter.
They don’t deliver to every city but you can just enter your zip and see if you get lucky. If you are a Vons.com shopper, try using code: MSFTSAVE and see if that works for an extra $5 off.
You can see the Safeway deals for the week here and the Safeway ad for 9/11 here.

You are SO RIGHT when you say how can you afford NOT to clip coupons. I rec’d your email yesterday and RAN to Safeway/Von’s to pick up the Scrubbing Bubbles One Step toilet cleaner for 71 CENTS (incl tax)!!! If saving money is important to someone, you MAKE the time because the savings PAY YOU to clip coupons. I look at it like this…the manufactures are sending me MONEY almost every Sunday (FREE MONEY) and then the stores are PAYING ME to shop at their stores!!!
A little longer than a comment…they know not what they talk about..you know that old saying, “you can take a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”. Or something like that. I have found great things in clearance and I didn’t have my coupons. So I drive back home to get my coupons and drive back to the store. Not anymore. I have a little cooler that is perfect (clearance $2), for my “no time to clip” coupons w/alphabetical dividers that I can just grab in case I run into any bargains. I love your site, emails, and your hard work. It certainly PAYS ME to clip coupons!!! Thanks
I agree with Beatrice. I used to run into Target and think nothing of dropping $100. Now, I don’t even want to go shopping without coupons. I was in line this morning to pick up the Starbucks coffee and Mott’s applesauce, and the lady in line behind me was friendly, but skeptical. She made a comment that made me laugh. After I just spent $22 on $50 worth of stuff (and I got a $5 gc back for the coffee, she said, “Whoa, you are gonna get rich off of that. I only use coupons on things I need”. I bought floss, a toothbrush, kid vitamins, 4 packs of applesauce, a tank top, 3 pack of Cascade dish detergent, 2 bananas, 2 packs of gum, and 2 bags of coffee. The only thing I didn’t need was the gum. Yes, coffee is a NEED. The coffee was $15 of my total, so all the rest of my stuff was 7 bucks (and that still doesn’t include my $5 gc. My tank top alone was normally $9. Who can afford not to use coupons? She’s right, it won’t make me rich, but it helps me jusify my expensive Starbucks habit. =)
I got a Starbucks too 🙂 Target jacks the prices up and makes me grumpy but the Starbucks deal was a steal 🙂 $4.89 per bag for 10 seconds on work.
Do you have to tip when you get a home delivery?
Ann, I wasn’t sure about that either and I was told that they are not allowed to accept tips.
Just a note on the home delivery…I tried it out just last Tuesday, taking advantage of the extra $20.00 back from Shop at Home. Let me tell you, I ordered all beef roasts at the sale price, and I ordered it for delivery yesterday. (I live in San Francisco, and this was the first delivery date available) When the delivery man arrived, he asked if we were having a BBQ. When I explained that I was receiving money back, etc, he than stated that the charge on my credit card was not what I had thought it was, and for me to telephone customer service. I looked at the charge, and was charged, an additional $20.00, up and above what my total was. After telephoning yesterday, and today, a total of 2 hours of my time, I was told that there ad was over Tuesday, and although I placed my order than, I was charged the price at the time it was bagged on Saturday. Well needless to say, I was not happy, and after asking to speak with a supervisor, the customer service rep stated that she would credit the difference back, as a one time courtesy. So you all might want to be careful when placing orders….I will never shop at Safeway.com again…
Blyth, good to note that the order plus delivery needs to be the same week’s ad. It makes sense but would be an easy error to make and wow what a difference that was for you!
I am interested in trying this, but, wondering in what form does the cash back come from shop at home? Is it a a mailed out rebate check? Thanks.
Yes it is a rebate check that you cash at the bank. I would never post like store credit or something without specifically telling you that you get $20 in credit to Safeway or something like that. You can read a little more about the program here:
http://myfrugaladventures.com/2011/08/shop-at-home-birthday-bash-12-14-back-on-walmart-target-and-more/
The only catch I guess is that they don’t send checks immediately. You can read on the Shop at Home page when the next series of checks are cut- I just got one so it might be awhile before they send them again.
Shopathome now is just back to the regular $13 cash back 🙁
Hi Charlene,
I was thinking of trying out this deal. I started an account on ShopAtHome, but the only coupon I can find is $13 cash back. Do you know if the $20 cash back offer has expired?
Yes Abigail, it looks like they lowered it. You can still get $13 which is nice or keep checking and see if it goes back up. The one note is what that reader mentioned and make sure your actual delivery is the same week as the ad.
