There are a number of free Nook Books to check out right now. These are listed as free but you will have to enter your credit card information to get through checkout.
I believe these books can be read on a PC, Mac or iPad as well as a Nook reader.
There are tons of different types of books to read- including some sneak peeks at the new James Patterson books coming out. I do want to warn you there are a few books designed for adults so take care if there are little people nearby.
I post Free Kindle Books all the time. You can download the Kindle books to a smart phone, iPad, PC or Mac if you don’t have a Kindle. So basically everyone should be able to get free ebooks!

Works perfectly for me so I can’t find any problems. It does take maybe 3 seconds for the page to load. Sorry, I can’t find any problems so I don’t know how to help.
I’d just go to Barnes and Noble and search for free books.
