NOW, this was advertised in the Safeway ad for 8/14-8/16 but it looks like the $3 instant discount is actually through 8/23 according to tags in store.

I went last night–the dish detergent wasn’t part of our Buy 3/Save $3 (MD). I had $2/1 Gain powder, $1/1 detergent, $1/1 fabric softener. I didn’t seem to get $3 off–I got the Catalina instead (although my sales flyer does say Buy 3/Save $3)… I spent $11.97 for the 3 items after sale prices and coupons and then rec’d the $3 Catalina back. Love your site! Keeps me inspired to keep looking for opportunities to save!

I actually received the catalina yesterday when I bought the laundry soap.

I bought one laundry detergent, one dish soap and one fabric softener. The $3 came off immediately and the catalina printed for my next purchase. So yes, the above deal is accurate and it started before the 19th!
I tried this deal today, purchasing 2 gain dish detergents and 1 laundry detergent. The $3 came off immediately (so dish detergent was $.99 each and laundry detergent was $4.99), but $3 catalina did not, however I know it has printed for others who have purchased the exact same items in this area of N. CA. My store manager, who was checking me out, offered me a $3 store credit (which was AWESOME) but I might try to do this deal on Friday again to see if it works as it’s supposed to.
It didn’t work for me, but I contacted the Catalina website and gave them the info they needed to send it to me.
Tammy they said they would send it even though the catalina isn’t supposed to start until Friday?

JJ did you buy 3 items one of which was laundry soap? It technically doesn’t start till tomorrow so I am going to check it out then.
I got Gain Powder and 2 dish soaps, paid $4.97 ,then checking my receipt the 2 off coupon was aplied to one of the dish soap instead of the powder and making that -1.01 for the dish soap, think thats why i got 2 CAT only, so, technically i bougth just two items… this is really weird =(
I got a reply from the Catalina company. They said that dish soap was not included in the reward, so they couldn’t fix it and send it to me. I let them know the ad on coupon network.com was very misleading and although they agreed, they said that it was up to the manufacturer and there was nothing they could do 🙁
Oh gotcha so since the dish soap was “free” since Sfwy’s receipts are retarded, you think it counted as 2 items? Hmm. I will see what happens tomorrow.
I just got back from Safeway and the same thing happened to me with the $2 cat… I went earlier today and bought 3 detergants and got the $3 cat, the deceded to go back later to get the detergant and the 2 dish soaps and got a $2 cat both times… Oh well though, still a good deal in my book! can’t wait to hear what happens tomorrow, as I still have 1 coupon left for the detergant 🙂
I contacted catalina marketing and this is what they said,
Thank you for contacting the Catalina Marketing Helpdesk,
Thank you for providing your information. After reviewing your transaction, we found that you did purchase the items with qualifying UPC’s but had used manufacture coupons to buy the product hence the coupon did not print . We apologize but will not be able to issue a coupon for this promotion.
What?! Is this a new thing? You can’t get a catalina when using coupons? Has anyone else had this response? If this is true, I should go back and do the deal without coupons, the deal is better than what I did.
