Shopping Trip

We had a very serious emergency around these parts in that I ran out of coffee.  Not to worry, I have an Amazon order that should be arriving any minute now, but for the safety of others I had to make an emergency Target run.

Funny how my whole store was wiped out of nearly everything on my list but I did get a few things:

2 Nivea Body Wash $3.04- used $2/1 coupons and $1/1 Target coupons= .04 each (these go to donation as we have several on hand)
2 Dreyer’s Smoothies/Shakes $1.25- used $1/2 printable= $.75 each (and the last two they had!)
1 Kashi Cereal cup $1.00- used $1 printable coupon= Free
Seattle’s Best $6.04 (the shelves were seriously empty! There was the light coffee or decaf left and that was it.)- used $2 coupon + $1 Target coupon= $3.04

3 steaks- I wanted to mention the Target sale tags in case you have never noticed. I check each and every time I shop because once meats get close to the sell by date, Target will mark them with coupons. I freeze almost all the meat I buy anyway, so this works fine for me.  You can see the red sticker on the package above for $3 off.  I got packs as close to 1lb as possible- so with the $3 off coupons it made them close to $2.75/lb which is a good price.
I always look for the smallest package possible to maximize savings. My total for all three steaks was $2.50+$3.75+$3.31.

So the grand total was $14.18

I was worried evrything was going to be sold out by the time I’m able to plan a shopping trip to Target this week. I was at the Dollar Tree yesterday trying to buy a couple extra papers and they were sold out because someone came in and bought 3 bundles…that’s 30 newspapers.

I can’t wait for some of these people who jumped on the couponing bandwagon to fall off. I’m not sure that all these new people are doing it for the right reasons.

How was Dreyer’s Smoothies tasted? I hope they are good, my Grocery store has them on sale for .99 this week 🙂

Nicole, my gosh. I was just reading that the police set up a sting on newspaper stands! They had some lunatic that went to paper stands first thing, bought one paper and then stole the inserts out of all the rest! They said it is a $300-1000 value in coupons each week and they set up a camera and everything to catch the person. I have to say I rarely have inventory issues at Target so this made me a little sad. I hate to think Target will be a store I have to hit at 8am on Sunday morning.

@Charlene, yesterday i went to a box near home to buy The San Jose Mercury News but one lady was stealing all the inserts and walk away with all of them, i really had a hard time to get one copy at the boxes, they were gone by 11:00 a.m. 🙁
@Nicole, look at ebay, people that buy that much paper sell the coupons there… 🙁

Oh shoot. I just bought coupons off Ebay. Now I feel guilty because you are probably right. Someone pillaged a newspaper stand for them.

I was very happy with my last Target trip a few weeks ago. They had everything in stock that was on my list.

It took my 4 stores to finally find some newspapers on Sunday. I ended buying the last 2 at Starbucks. I had to pay full price but atleast I found some.

Well, I got up Sunday morning and someone had taken my papers off my door step. The paper boy swore he delivered them to my house, so, I guess we had an early morning visitor.

I find it extremely frustrating. I know it’s nice for everyone to save money, but if it’s getting to the point where no one can get stock of items then I find myself not even trying anymore. I too, am really for all of these new couponers to go back to their normal life.

Very true about the meat! We got ground meat for a steal a couple of weeks ago.

Did you use the target mobile coupon for the steaks or can you not combine that with a discount sticker?

    Charlene,
I think it was a god send that they left the light coffee because the lighter the roast more caffeine is in it. Enjoy your blog as I am a native Sacramentan living in NC due to husband’s service. Hope the weather starts cooperating.

Well I asked but the guy said I already had a coupon for each one… I thought it was a great deal no matter 🙂

Brenda I read that too!! They are stealing from homes. Now this is just crazy to walk to a home and snatch a paper.

I third the meat! I always check it when I go… I once got a bunch of ground beef for $.75 a pound! And I’ve gotten good prices on other meats too.

I went to CVS on Sunday night after I put my LO to bed and they were already sold out of the Pulsar toothbrushes… On the first day! That just seems crazy to me. And with that there is a limit of 1 per household. I’m afraid to buy a paper from a stand because from reading blogs and message boards seems like people are stealing the inserts more times then not… Wow!

I think TLC was irresponsible in showng the lady who went to forclosed homes and stole the newspapers. While on the show she said she only took from unoccupied homes, the previews for the show looked like she was stealing newspapers from driveways. She even yelled at her driver to go and ran back to the car. It looked like she was stealing papers and unfortunatley this makes people think it is ok. I would hate for my carrier to get in trouble because my paper is gone and I call for a replacement.

I’ve noticed it is getting more difficult to get the deals lately-I don’t even try Rite Aide anymore because they never have anything and that is with limits imposed! I went today to CVS -Tuesday at noon- and got the last Crest Rinse and the last Pulsar toothbrush. They had plenty of Honest Tea (I was surprised after the Sobe fiascos last year)and Colgate toothpaste. The only 2 items I didn’t get were the John Frieda because they only had 1 left at 5.00 and the cashier said the .99 Excederin migraine is something they don’t carry normally and they only received 2!

I saw the John Frieda sale is going on next week too. You can get rainchecks too… They never expire. I have one for those Prep H wipes but I wonder if they’ll have it before the coupon expires???

Oh man, I just bought some coupons off Ebay too! I didn’t even think about how they got them. I just assumed they bought them from the distributors like the coupon site. Now it looks like I’ll be getting up and grabbing my papers in the morning too. Seriously this has got to end, things are getting crazy!

  19. Jose says

    06/07/2011 at 4:55 PM

@Charlene, if I request a raincheck( just to give an example for a $4 dollars item and that items comes with a $2 RR, +Up’s or EBC), do i get the RR, +Up’s or EBC, when i use the raincheck later?

  20. Charlene says

    06/07/2011 at 5:29 PM

Jose at CVS yes for sure. At Walgreens they don’t do rainchecks on RR items. At Rite Aid I am not sure actually. I think they will do rainchecks but I am not 100% on that.

  21. Dee says

    06/07/2011 at 7:25 PM

I’ve had Walgreens give me a raincheck on RR items. Is that a new policy?

I stopped by the meat case at Target today and hit pay dirt – the steaks had $3 off stickers, the stew meat $1 off, 93/7 hamburgers were $1.22, ribs were $2/lb, and gorgeous loin pork chops were $1.50/lb. After I broke it down to freeze, we will get 16 meals for $19. Pretty darned good!

    And I got 6 tops for $25.

  22. Charlene says

    06/07/2011 at 7:54 PM

That’s great Dee but I don’t think most stores will give rainchecks on register reward items. I guess my answer for everything is going to be just ask and see.
