Well stink on Safeway (again.) I went tonight to get the free milk with purchase of Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch and it seems they changed the catalina offer.
To recap, it is supposed to be buy 3 boxes of General Mills cereal and get a catalina coupon for a free gallon of milk. Some of you that are fast to the draw said you got this cat and it was just free milk- no restrictions. I went tonight and my catalina is for a free gallon of milk when you buy 3 cereal. So not as good as it should have worked out to be.
Here is how to math looks on this offer:
Buy 4 boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Honey Nut Cheerios at $1.99- must buy 4
Use the $.55/1 printable
or Use the $1/2 Cinnamon Toast Crunch coupon
Pay as low as $5.76 for 4 boxes
Then you get a catalina for a Free gallon of milk (up to $3.75) when you buy 3 General Mills cereal.
So you can rinse and repeat and pay another $5.76 and get a free gallon of milk this time.
The way I look at it you bought 8 boxes of cereal at $1.50(ish) and milk is about $3.00- so basically take $.38 off each box to factor in the savings on the milk. Works out to about $1.12/box which isn’t very exciting to me.
So I don’t think this is a terrible deal but we see cereal for $1.00 or less all the time so this isn’t really great either. If you decide to still take advantage of this offer, I would recommend doing this in transactions of 4 so you can use that milk catalina on your next set of 4 boxes.
I have a few weeks to use my milk cat so I am going to sit tight and cross my fingers for a better sale to use it on.
My milk catalina did say when you buy 3 boxes of general mills cereal, but my Just for you price was 2.54, so they took a dollar off of that price and with a $.55 coupon off each box and a free box of raisin bran (my just for you price was $.99 and a dollar was taken off of that to make it free), my total for those 4 boxes of cereal was $2.97 and I got a gallon of milk (but actually used the $3.75 toward organic milk). I thought it was a really great deal. The just for you prices made a difference and it is nice that they take off the dollar from “your” price. I also was able to get a second transaction of 2 boxes of kashi go lean with coupons, and more raisin bran for super cheap! Coupons made such a difference!

I didn’t get my catalina today at Safeway 🙁 Boo. I bought 4 boxes of GM cereal and was expecting it but it didn’t print out for me….has it ended you think?

Milk Cat printed for me this morning (5/16) in NorCal Safeway. Bought 4 Honey Nut Cheerios, as outlined by Charlene above (except in my transaction, a surprise eQ of $0.55 appeared unexpectedly)
I got the milk cat today when purchased 3 Cinnamon Toast Crunch & 1 Cocoa Puffs. It says “FREE one gallon of milk when you buy any THREE General Mills Cereals”. I dont quite understand. Does this mean I have to buy 3 more cereals to get the free milk???
I had to go back and check my cat after I read this post…boo! Mine also said Free Milk when you buy 3 GM. That is so lame!! I wouldn’t have purchased the cereal at 1.44 a box. :/
Yeah that is what I tried to say in the post. A load of you know what in my opinion 🙁 Buy 6 cereal total for the milk which is something they have never done before and it ridiculous IMO.
This milk cat makes sense now. I was wondering why my cat didn’t work when I brought only the milk. The cat. beeped and the cashier asked the manager, and the manager explained to me that I need to buy 3 boxes of cereal with milk to receive the milk. This completely sucks, I brought 6 boxes of cereal, and I have to go get more cereal to get my free milk. I’m going to wait for a great deal to use the coupon, it doesn’t expire till June.
Just an update to those who got the cat that says “free milk wyb 3 cereals”….I was able to use the cat to get my free gallon of milk and I didn’t have to buy any additional cereal! My cashier was the manager herself and the coupon went through with no problem.
