I did head into Target today to check out the new prices. There is a $5 gift card offer mentioned in the weekly ad for select Proctor and Gamble items.
Olay Total Effects are listed in the ad at $17.50 but I found numerous other items were included as well in store.
Olay 11.8oz Lotion is priced at $4.99 and was marked with the gift card tags- so you can get 2 for $.98:
Buy 2 Olay Lotion at $4.99
Use (2) $2/1 Olay coupons from 4/3 P&G
Get $5 gift card back
Final Price: .98 for 2!Olay Foaming Face Wash and cleansing wipes were priced at 4.99
Use (2) $1/1 Olay Cleanser coupons from 4/3 P&G
or use (2) $2/1 from 3/27 SS
Final Price: $.98 for 2!
I wasn’t sure about the Olay lotion coupon since it says “hand and body lotion” and the product on sale is just body lotion. I did buy 2 of them myself though and it worked perfectly. Also the lotion pictured on the coupon is just plain body lotion.
Again, these deals were not listed in the weekly ad so make sure to look for signs in your store indicating the gift card offer!

How do you find out about the $5 GC offers that aren’t listed in the ads/marked on the shelves?!
Jennifer, I am not sure how to answer that. This offer was very clearly marked on the shelf at my store. Since the lotion at $4.99 was not in the weekly circular I recommended looking for a shelf tag in your store to verify it is included in the promotion.
This is what I said:
“Olay 11.8oz Lotion is priced at $4.99 and was marked with the gift card tags- so you can get 2 for $.98.”
“Again, these deals were not listed in the weekly ad so make sure to look for signs in your store indicating the gift card offer!”
You should be able to see large red and white signs right on the products indicating the price and it will say on the top of the sign “Get a $5 gift card.” So all I did was walk into the store and look.
Can you use the $5 gift card on that purchase?
No Allyson you can’t use it on the same purchase. You can however use it to buy more and get another gift card.
@Jennifer – When I scan things in store it will show the gc offer next to the price!
Has this deal worked for anyone else? I may be late on this, but over the summer lots of Targets quit accepting manufacturer’s coupons on items that had a gc deal. Has that problem been fixed now?
Gina, I did it- actually I didn’t my husband went through checkout for me with only this purchase and it worked perfect for him 🙂
@Gina- I was just informed today also about not accepting coupons on gc offers. The cashier would not take it along w/ any of my coupons! After a call to corporate, and then the store manager, problem solved. That was Target’s OLD policy, along with not taking coupons on clearance items ( which was another problem I had today). After many apologies from the store manager he said he was unaware of their new policy (?). So it just could be a miss communication
Angie- sorry but when was this old policy? The 1980’s maybe? I have shopped at Target for years and couponed for several years and never heard of this no coupons on gift cards policy 😛 I think they make things up.
I have no idea! I was thinking the same thing, but thats what the manager told me, and the elderly cashiers told me the same thing when i was trying to check out. Even the head cashier said it because she was called over about my coupons. It was a disaster! Same w/ using coupons on clearance items… they wouldnt let me. I also had a heck of a fight trying to use the 2 coupons for the degree. The “new” policy meant nothing today, they didnt seem to care what it said
Bah! Angie, I think you will need to put the legwork into training your store. You were exactly right to call customer service and get it sorted. I imagine that won’t be your first call but I have found once you do that a few times the stores will start to change. It sounds to me like a store that has never seen a coupon before- I had something similar in my area when I started couponing years ago 🙂 It isn’t nearly as popular in Nor CA as it is in some areas and it just took patience from me and a lot of extra effort and now I almost never have any problems.
I didn’t have a problem with the coupon/gc scenario until last summer during the big Sobe deal. It was the one where the Sobe ended up being free with a Target Q, manufacturer’s Q and a gc you got back. I’d been doing the deal all week with no problems and then one day the registers stopped letting me use manufacturer’s Q’s. My cashier told me it was a new Target policy. This happened to me in Texas and a friend in Connecticut so it seemed to be a nationwide thing at the time! I may have to give this deal a try to see if it goes through.
