I mentioned the Hallmark card deal running at Safeway this week with the matchups but it is actually a little better.
Here is the deal advertised in the weekly ad:
Buy 3 Hallmark Greeting Cards (excluding .99 cards) and get a $5 catalina back.
If your store carries $1.49 cards, you pay $4.47 and get a $5 catalina back.
If your store only has $1.99 cards, you pay $5.97 and get a $5 catalina back.
If you decide to try this transaction you might look for signs about a free purse caddy with purchase of 3 cards. (Purse caddy is a hook you put on a table to hang your purse so it doesn’t sit on the floor.)
If you spot the offer, you should be able to purchase the purse caddy along with your cards and get it free!
I found the signs above in my store but they did not have the actual caddy available so I couldn’t test it. I did hear from two readers that have done the transaction and confirm it works.

In addition, there is a regional catalina that is stacking to make this a better deal! I do not know which areas this is available in but it is something to look for if you decide to try this deal. (Note: I purchased cards myself to see if it would work for me and it did not.)
In some areas when you purchase 3 cards, you will want to see if you find a second catalina that indicates another promotion- Buy 6 Hallmark cards total and get a $4 Register Reward. The cards you buy are tracked by your club card so you don’t need to buy them all at once.
So the way it looks if you get this offer, is like this:
Buy 3 cards at $1.49-1.99
and Buy purse caddy
Pay $4.47-5.97
Get $5 cat backIF you get the overlapping catalina offer:
Buy 3 more cards at $1.49-1.99
and Buy 2nd purse caddy if you want
Pay $4.47-5.97- (you can use the prior cat to pay for this)
Get another $5 catalina plus get the bonus $4 catalina!
So if you are lucky this turns into a small moneymaker. If you decide to try it let us know if you get the bonus cat as well. I’d love to hear which areas this is working in!

I saw the signage for the $5 catalina and purse caddy in So Cal. Couldn’t find the purse caddy anywhere. For those of you who bought it, where did you find it?
I was at Von’s this morning. I saw the signage for the purse caddy but couldn’t locate the item. I just so happened to look up and there they were sitting way up top above the greeting cards. When I made my purchase, I received my catalina plus another print out that I had purchase 2 out of 6 cards. 🙂 I live in the Palm Springs area.
So maybe this is just a Vons deal and not safeway? I live in Arizona and ours here is Safeway. I haven’t checked it out yet.
I did this deal yesterday at a Safeway in the Bay Area and the purse caddies where in a metal basket/rounder in the middle of the card aisle. They were priced at $2.99 and in light blue boxes. The lady restocking at the store showed me where to get one and the deal worked! Mother’s Day Cards and Hubbie’s Birthday cards bought.
Can i buy 6 cards and get 2 catalinas..Or they need to be done separately?
Annie I think you can buy 6 at a time but double check the fine print on the Safeway ad to be sure.

I could only find 1.99 cards which was just fine with me, free purse caddy and the $5 catalina. I think I might go in again later 🙂
I got 3 of the $1.99 cards (Safeway Carmichael, CA) and the catalina for $5.00 printed. Didn’t see the purse caddies anywhere but I did see the signs for them.
Also the Catalina indicates you can roll this so head’s up !! great deal for your Mom’s day, Graduation and B day, Thank you, Get well, Sympathy, etc card needs 🙂

I found $1.49 cards, they were for Graduates, and they were the ones you put money or a gift card in. I don’t think there were any other $1.49 cards, so I got one of those, and then two $1.99 mothers day cards and also the purse caddy, worked out after catalina to $.50 for $8.50 worth of cards/purse caddy!!
It worked like a charm, but did not get the additional $4 cat. No signs in the store either. Safeway in Maryland.
Just wanted to mention that the purse caddies are on a separate display cap, the were by the ribbon, gift bags and other hallmark items.
