There is an unadvertised deal running at CVS this week. Keep in mind this is a transaction where you roll the dice because it is not advertised and also not every store carries these products.
So if the ECB does not print for you, your options are to keep the items and call it a day or just return them for a refund.
Here is the deal:
CVS is offering a $1 ECB when you purchase 3 Frito Lay chips. The limit is 5 ECBs total per person.
Some stores have tiny single serve bags of chips priced at $.33 each that are triggering the ECB.
(These are not the larger .99 bags but rather a smaller package closer to what you put in a child’s lunch.)
I can’t say I have ever noticed these bags but if you find them, the deal looks like this:
Buy 3 bags at .33 each
Pay $1.00 and get $1 in ECBs back
I would test it first and if it works, you can buy a total of 15 bags and you will pay $5.00 and get $5 in ECBs back.
Apparently this is also working on the single serve packets of peanuts and sunflower seeds which are priced at $.50. So if you buy 3 of those instead, you will pay $1.50 and get $1.00 back!
Let me know how this works out for you.

**NOTE: If you don’t feel like going to CVS or you can’t find these bags- tomorrow we should see 24,000 free bags of Frito Lay chips on Facebook! This giveaway is at 2pm CT tomorrow (4/29) and keep in mind Frito Lay has 2 MILLION Facebook fans. So 24,000 bags will be gone in less than 2 minutes is my guess. I will post a reminder on the My Frugal Adventures Facebook page tomorrow!
(Thanks Common Sense with Money)
John says
Zero for 5 on CVS’s that did not sell the small bags today.
Charlene says
John you went to 5 CVS stores? Funny! Sorry you didn’t spot them 🙁
Lacey says
I wish i had 5. I only have 1 near me and i dread going in there.
Masako says
I went today, but there were none of the single serve bags of chips. Only the $0.99 bags. =(
meryl says
I read the 99 cent bags are also triggering the ECB- not as good a deal.
Charlene says
Right Meryl- any Frito Lay items will work but obviously $2 for 3 single serve bags isn’t a great deal.
John says
Frito Lay peanuts and sunflower seeds are 50 cents a piece.
Charlene says
John I mentioned that in the post. Were you confirming that or is there a mistake I made somewhere?
Jose says
I know rite aid has the 3 for $1 , i’ll check cvs today =)
Silvia says
I bought 15 bags today and only received $4 ECB’s! But, I scanned my card as I walked into the store and it spit out a $5 ECB!! Woo-Hoo!!
jennifer says
So if you can’t find the chips and want the nuts, the best way to purchase is 3 at a time, pay 1.50 get $1 back, then use that $1 to pay for the next set of 3. After 5 transactions, you have paid $3.50 OOP and have a $1 ECB. Left
Charlene says
Right. 🙂
Charlene says
Silvia- where did you find the bags?
Endcapps says
Deal worked this morning.
15 – Doritos, 1-ounce bag … $4.95 and generated a $5 ECB x5/28/11
(ringing $0.33 ea.)
My receipt says:
“This Week’s Extra Buck Offers~ Frito Lay, But 3, Get 1 EB *Offer Limit Reached 15”
I’snt that $5 EB exceptionally long-dated? I mean, 5/28 is a month away. Highly unusual.
The bags are printed with “3 for a $1, or 35 cents” on the top. They sat in a cardboard tray all arranged on a wheeled shelf. I think Ihad just arrived when the Frito deliveryman wheeled this thing in. It wasn’t in the grocery section, but instead just hanging out near the magazine rack and the school supplies. So maybe it is indeed intended for school lunch inclusion. The other flavors I saw were Cheetos, Crunchy Cheetos, BBQ Lays potato chips, regular Lays potato chips, Funions (sp?)…mind you, these are miniscule packages that my kids consume in just one bite!
I also spotted the Frito Lay sunflower seeds hanging out near the checkout registers on slender cardboard dispensers, so look around the checkout endcaps.
Frito Lay peanuts (saw one lonely package) were on hanging clips near an endcap in the chips aisle.
None of these things had signage. I only bought the 15 Doritos. Didn’t buy the peanuts or sunflower seeds. Now you know why my name is Endcapps, because that’s where you’ll find me looking for good deals.
Charlene says
EC- it is a month long deal. CVS has a few every month.
susan says
My store was out of the small bags but said that they get some next Wednesday. Will they EB still be available then?
Jose says
Any body know if this deal still on?
franki says
endcapps and susan – are you in norcal?
I’m in Bay Area
I had 5ecb expiring so looked in several stores and asked
Never heard of that size
We seem to be the last to get a lot of deals and wondering if it’s worth any more running around
Endcapps says
Franki, I did my deal on 4/28 @ the Concord store, intersection of Treat & Clayton. Good Luck! The price of gas does indeed limit our running around.
Jose says
@Emdcapps I’m in the San Mateo area i made the deal at the Redwood City CVS, was weird we have a CVS neraly every 5 blocks and that was the only store that carry that size… lol
Endcapps says
Yay!
Yes, you’re right about only certain CVS stocking the small size. Here’s my theory. The CVS that serves as a “grocery anchor” for a strip mall most likely stocks the small size — they also sell bananas, watermelons, and more grocery items. The CVS in Concord where I found my small Lays is situated in a strip mall with Staples, and no other food stores.
I also read somewhere that the 24-hour CVS is also a more likely bet.
jennifer says
Anyone bought any this week? Went to Endcapps store today, bought 2 sets of 3 chips and didn’t get anything. Didn’t add to my total either. Ii bought 3 nuts on Sundayan so wonder if they removed the chips from the deal
Endcapps says
Jennifer, hmmm, maybe they changed the deal on the small chips. Did you get your EB for the 3 nuts you bought?
Jennifer says
On Sunday, I did get ECB for the nuts. From reading the message boards, it now appears even the nuts are not working. So a Dead Deal
