Ok well this worked out in the end but I seriously made a rookie mistake on this trip.
Here is what I did:
2 bags of M&Ms at $1.97
1 Essence of Beauty Hand Sanitizer marked at $4.19 on the shelf
1 Essence of Beauty Mesh Sponge marked $2.99
2 Coke 2L $1
1 Honest tea $1
Coupons Used:
$2/2 Mars Easter candy
Free Essence of Beauty from CVS coupon
Free Mesh sponge with purchase of essence of beauty item (this was an email sent to beauty club members today)
$2 off any beverage CVS coupon
(2) $1 off any Coke coupon from Recyclebank
My store was out of the free bubbles or I would have grabbed those too.
So first thing is that the ad says buy 3 Coke, Honest Tea etc.. at $4 and get $1 ECB but they rang up at $3 for 3 with a $1 ECB back. I didn’t double check my local ad this week and our drinks are priced a little lower than other parts of the country.
I did get the full $2 off from the CVS beverage coupon- even though my beverage was $1. Also the hand sanitizer I should have scanned to check the price- it was marked at $4.19 but rang up at $2.00.
The full value of $3.99 came off for that coupon- so basically I didn’t have enough to cover my overage and the total was -.54.
I do not ever like to be in the negative so the cashier just adjusted a coupon down and made the total exactly 0. It all worked out in the end but I should have scanned that Essence of Beauty item just to be sure my totals were correct. I can’t promise you will get the same deal I did but if you intend to use those CVS coupons you might have a backup plan just in case to catch the overage from those coupons!
I paid 0 and got $1 ECB back but I could have purchased the Russell Stover candy at $.74 to catch the overage and paid .20 and got back another .74 ECB.

You’re definitely not alone – similar rookie mistake was made here too!
Antibacterial soap $3.99 – used FREE coupon
Big Hunk (craving one and this was a good excuse!) $0.89 – used FREE coupon
1 box Raisin Bran cereal $1.66 – used $0.70 coupon
***The FREE coupons gave me the full credit as well of $3.99 and $2, which caused my total to be at -$0.12.
Only I didn’t get so lucky. Even though I asked him to just give me enough credit to get to zero (like your cashier did); he reduced my candy coupon to $0.89 and I ended up paying $1.10! I am more upset with myself then the cashier, because I didn’t actually do the math before I went to the register……GRRRRR!!!
I know. It worked for me but you could have just kept that .70 coupon and still been ahead too. I get flustered when there is a line behind me so luckily the cashier was great.
The sad thing is I know that, but as of late my brain is not working – it’s got to be the pregnancy hormones! At least that’s my excuse … HAHAHA!!! This is where my general coupon philosophy comes into play, “You win some and you lose some.” Although, I didn’t really lose, because even though I paid $1.10 I still got quite a few things, but it definitely could have been better!
How do you get Beauty Club emails? (I joined the club but I am not getting emails.) Thanks!
I don’t know Diane. I put two and two together because the subject line of the email says:
Charlene, Free Gift for Beauty Club Members!
I think this is the first I have received from them.
i got the email but it was same deal everyone got. didn’t get the mesh. hmm;
how great was yesterday at CVS, seriously?! Free drink/candy, free handsoap (we needed hand soap over here.. down to the last bottle) and beauty sponge. I also go some easter candy free after ECB.
I did see some MQ coupons of buy a coke and candy get $1 off which expires on the 15th,they were on the refrigerated cokes, hopefully i can use it with the free candy/coke and get both free!anyone seen these at their store?
My store was subsituting the 6pk – 4oz bubbles for the ones in the ad. I actually ended up with more oz of bubbles than what was actually on sale!
Hey Charlene!
