Are these really good Syrups? Is it worth paying this much for Syrup? I’m just use to paying a few dollars for a bottle at the store.

Stacey- it is really 2 different things. I usually buy pancake syrup too but I decided to upgrade to something better and try pure maple syrup. This is what I read:
“Maple syrup is simply sap drawn from maple trees that’s been reduced to concentrate the sugars it contains. Pancake syrup, on the other hand, contains very little (if any) real maple syrup. Instead, it’s a combination of sugar or high fructose corn syrup and natural or artificial flavors that mimic the taste of maple syrup. Because maple syrup must be harvested manually and it only has a short season (typically late February to early April), it is far more expensive than pancake syrup in general.”

There are different kinds of Maple syrup and Coombs is a Grade B which a lot of food magazines and such recommend.
My girls love pancakes so I want to try and get a better product to put in their bodies. I have heard that pure maple syrup is super strong though so I don’t think you use nearly as much. Maybe some others have opinions they can share.

I love pure maple syrup and when we first switched, I realized you really dont need a lot for it to go a long way. So you dont use too much at a time, its great for other recipes as well!

There is no comparison between real maple syrup and regular syrup. It is all natural, super sweet so you only need a little and once you try, regardless of cost it is hard to go back.

I want to share a recipe for homemade syrup that I have been using for a couple of years now. It is super easy, super cheap and super yummy! I will never buy syrup again…even if it is free!
Homemade Vanilla Syrup
1 C White Sugar
1 C Brown Sugar
1 C Boiling Water
1 T Cornstarch
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Heat sugars, water and cornstarch to boiling. Remove from heat and add vanilla! Voila…done. I double the batch and refigerate and serve as needed.
Usually, when I have about 1/4 cup left in the jar, I use it as a glaze for chicken with a little dijon mustard and soy sauce.
I have also been adding this to coffee with half and half instead of coffeemate and it is really good! I plan to experiment soon with different extracts like almond for homemade coffemate.
Give it a try and see what you think! It works great for our family and there are no yucky chemicals!
