I think this is actually a pretty decent deal from Safeway but the fine print on the ad nearly made me blind so please double check your ad or the signs in store.
It looks like there is a new offer- spend $50 on gift cards plus buy a bouquet of flowers and get a $10 catalina coupon back. This offer runs from 2/2-2/15 and does exclude Safeway gift cards or prepaid debit cards. There is a limit of (1) $10 cat per transaction.
I decided to try it and I bought (2) $25 cards to Arco Gas Station plus a bouquet of Tulips for $6.99. The Safeway Football Coupon book $3 off flowers coupon did not work on tulips- you need to get the actual mixed bouquets of flowers which are $9.99 to use it.
Also, my cat did not print. I spoke with someone else that tried the same scenario and the cat didn’t print for her either. So I think “bouquet of flowers” to Safeway is the $9.99 mixed flower bouquets. It still works out nicely because you can use the $3/1 Safeway Football book coupon and pay $56.99 between the gift cards and your flowers. You will have your $50 cards plus the $10 cat back. So basically a $3 profit and you get flowers for free.
One important note is that the $10 cat will expire 7 days after it prints. I thought the gas cards were perfect since $50 is basically a tank these days but they also have restaurant cards, Target cards etc.. so maybe you can find something good.
There is an overlapping iTunes promotion. Buy $25 in iTunes cards and get $5 off your next transaction. The fine print of the ad says that customer is “eligible for one rewards coupon if iTunes gift cards are included” so I think they are saying that you won’t get a total of $20 back if you spend $50 in iTunes cards. If I remember correctly the last time they actually did both print so if you decide to give it a whirl let us know how it works out!
do u know the details of the old el paso catalina deal? i tried it with the taco shells up here in portland & got nothing. wanted to make sure I did it right before I called Catalina. I bought 5 shells @ 99 cents.
Jessica I am sorry if that wasn’t clear. The cat appears to be regional so it simply may not have been available in your area. My suggestion was that people look for the signs that were advertising it in store. If you don’t see them, then don’t buy the products unless you were happy with the price without it. You can try calling but I have a feeling they will just tell you that it isn’t available in your area. I did not have any signs in my store but I thought .49 was still a good price so I went ahead and bought them. If you feel the price was too high than I would recommend returning them.
thanks for the heads up on the flower/gc deal. I didn’t have the booklet coupon, but having free flowers in the house so close to valentine’s day is definitely a plus!
I was happy with the price, so no worries. I thought it might be risky because none of the PNW blogs seemed to be advertising it, but then when I got to the store, the shells were cleared except for the last 5 I took. Plus, when I checked out, I got nothing from the catalina machine, literally nothing, not just the OEP catalina, but nothing. So I thought maybe her machine was not working. Oh Jessica it might be worth an email then just to be certain. Someone in CO did get it but here in CA we didn’t. You can email coupon at catalinamarketing dot com.
Here in WY the .99 taco shells don’t count for the catalina. The items that do count have special tags on them. As for the gift card/flower deal, it’s funny, I NEVER buy flowers but tried it with a 6.99 flower purchase and 2 target cards. When it didn’t print the $10 cat I asked the cashier, he said the catalina machines had been acting up for days then he pulled out a $10 safeway gift card, activated it and gave it to me instead. I was so happy, especially after seeing your post.
Oh good! Well I called catalina so I should still get it in the mail from them. A reader was saying she did the $7 tulips and didn’t get it and then she did the $10 bouquet at the same checkstand and did get it.

No Jose, I understand that to mean you can’t get both the iTunes catalina and the $10 catalina. I mentioned that note in the last paragraph of the post.
Ok… so i got my $10 cat… —-> =) there say it cannot be combined with any other offer or discount. I guess it cannot be used with manufacturers coupon or safeway coupons… ???
Jose, you can combine pas du problem. Coupons always say that so don’t worry about it. As long as your total after all coupons is $10 or more you will be fine. Just give that one last.

I did this deal today and it worked perfectly. I had a $5 off mixed floral bouquet in my Just 4U account and bought a $9.99 arrangement, so it was a small moneymaker. I love fresh flowers and free ones are even better!

I purchased two $25 itunes cards and a $9.99 valentine bouquet and the cat was for $5. The clerk saw that and said that I should have received a $10 cat and gave me $10 my grocery purchase today. In hindsight I would have purchased a $25 itunes card and a $25 target or amazon card since the itunes promotion is only a $5 cat for $25 or more, not for every $25 gc. I read the fine print but it didn’t register until I had already purchased the gcs. Also, I found a new coupon book for safeway coupons not manufacturers for campbells, arnold thins etc. I think this might be the book that another reader mentioned yesterday. I didn’t think the itunes situation was terrible. I thought I made out pretty good. I’m sorry I didn’t make it clear that I thought it was a good thing. i have done this transactions (the flowers ) 3 times now. Only one time did it not work (with the $6.99 mums).
both times I got the $9.99 bouqets I had no problems.
i’m all about free flowers and they are nice to give as Valentines to friends, moms, etc.
i will use the Target GC’s – i love Target ! So it’s a win win in my book !
