I posted a giveaway with Home Depot a few weeks ago and mentioned we were remodeling our guest bath. We have actually been doing endless renovations in our house so we decided to just give the bathroom a small makeover. We will probably sell this house at some point so we wanted a simple and very neutral makeover.
Home Depot has had a renew and redo promotion running for the past several weeks with discounted priced on many items for the bathroom.
We took advantage of the sale and we also ordered many of the items online and got 3% cash back on the purchases thanks to Ebates!
You can see the final product pictured above- we actually did quite a lot. We replaced the flooring, we replaced the countertop, we painted the cabinet and shower stall and we replaced all the fixtures. The bathroom used to have this horrible gray tile and we decided to paint the tile rather than replace it all. So we bought special paint and now it is a very crisp white.
You can see from the before picture it was really kind of a depressing room and I am pretty pleased with how it all turned out!
Since the cabinet was in great condition we decided to just replace the counter. So we got a glass counter that is sort of a seafoam color and was really easy to install. We just ripped out the old tile and popped the glass counter on top. My husband actually painted the old pine cabinet in an espresso color and it turned out really well! The pictures don’t do this counter top justice- it is really pretty in person.
I think this is a huge improvement over the ugly tile we had before.
So here is the breakdown of what we spent on this project:
- Flooring (we used scrap pieces left over from our kitchen remodel)
- Light fixture $30 (this was a clearance find and we spray painted it to match the other fixtures)
- Cabinet Paint and Supplies $30
- Tile Paint and Supplies $20
- New Countertop $300- ordered online and got 3% cash back from Ebates
- New fixtures $150- including a new faucet, showerhead etc…- ordered online and got 3% cash back from Ebates
- New shower curtain from Target $34.99
- New bath mat from Target $17.99
So the grand total is $582.98- then we got back $13.50. So not as cheap as you see on HGTV but overall I think we got a nice renovation from top to bottom for under $600.

I think it looks great. Nice job.
Looks so beautiful! Very classy.
WOW, awesome job ! looks great !
Looks great! What an improvement. I like the idea of the glass countertop… I don’t think I’ve seen that before.
Very nice! And thanks for the idea on painting the tile – I might not have ever thought of that on my own. Our guest bathroom is next on our renovation list too ….
I love the counter top you chose. Is the glass as durable as a tile counter top? It’s such a nice color.
Looks great Charlene!!!
Randi- it is really nice actually but maybe not that practical for a room that is really high use. The counter has a super shallow sink. Otherwise I think it is really durable- at least so far 🙂 This room is mostly for guests and isn’t used that frequently.
Looks great! We definitely need to do some renovating around here. Did you post pictures of your new kitchen? I don’t think I’ve seen it.
So funny! We just redid our bathroom, the same color & the same shower curtain!
Looks awesome! Love the cabinet!
what color do you have on the walls…I love that color would like that in my kitchen.
Thanks
What did you use to paint the tiles in your bath tub? It sounds like the most economical way to makeover a dated tub/shower area. I’d love any details you can share. Thanks! Your bathroom looks great!
Trsih I will ask my husband because I didn’t do any of that 😛
Tina- I hope this isn’t arrogant but let me say that brown is the PERFECT brown. We must have gone through hundreds of samples and I am not kidding. The entire house is that color. I believe it is called Spotted Owl and it is from Benjamin Moore. We actually went to Home Depot and they were able to match the paint for cheaper. They matched it just by the name! Apparently Spotted Owl is a super popular color.
Just want to know how durable all these “cheap” makeovers are. I have 3 teenage sons and one more coming up. I’d love to keep our cabinet in the bathroom, but KNOW cheap paint will scuff off in weeks and I’ll have to redo everything. Has anyone tried the new paint-on product that doesn’t require sanding or priming?
Umm.. Ok Shirley I will try not to be offended that you called me cheap. I thought we did a good job.
The cabinet paint I think is very durable and we could have purchased a new cabinet entirely for $300 but I felt those were flimsy. The cabinet we have is a solid piece and the new countertop makes it look brand new. So I feel good about that. The shower paint I would not use in a high traffic area. We discussed it with the contractor we had for our other rooms and his opinion was a room that doesn’t get much use can be brightened up but it will peel off a high traffic room. We had to gut the master bath due to water issues and that room we did brand new tile and it was a lot more expensive.
