*NOTE: The majority of Staples stores will accept competitor’s coupons. I have done a transaction like this more times than I can count with no problems whatsoever. Inevitably, I always hear from people that can not use coupons or are not allowed to use coupons on rebate items. So your luck will vary- I did hear from Kristi on the MFA Facebook page that she has already done this with no problems at all.

How is the rebate issued?
I called my local Staples and was told that they would take the coupon. But when I got the paper I was told by the manager that I could not combine the coupon with the rebate. He was not helpful and acted as though the money was coming out of his pocket!! I left the store and went to office depot where I use the coupon on their paper that was on sale with no problems. I will no longer take my business to staples in lincolnton nc!! I live for the best deals because I work hard for my money and I am sick of stores acting as though the deals come directly out of their pocket. Just wanted to vent!! Thank you for posting GREAT deals!!
Stacy-Ann it is a prepaid Visa card. You can get all the details here:

No luck here. The official policy according to the staples rep I spoke with is that they don’t match competitor’s coupons exactly, but they try to get you a deal as close to the competitor’s deal as possible. Also, she said the the coupon would not work for this deal because they will not match on “staples” brand items (it has to be the exact name brand). Lastly, they will not take the coupon because you cannot use a coupon on a rebate or “sale” item.
I just bought the paper and will get right on the rebate. I also bought the glossy photo paper for 9.99 with and 8.99 rebate limit 2. When I do rebates through staples I like to get an actual check so I change visa pre-paid card to check. You only have the opportunity to do that when you first request the rebate. Thanks for the great deal on the paper. can’t beat 1.19 for a case of paper. π
Our staples didnt allow us to get BOTH the 40% coupon and the rebate, they told us it was one or the other. Boo! π Guess we’ll wait till next week….
I did this deal last night. My Staples took the coupon w/o any issues. I went on line, and signed up for the rebate in 5 minutes (or less). It was SUPER easy! Yeah for cheap paper!
I had the same scenario as Ashley. I called and even got the same cashier I spoke with on the phone when I went to check out. The manager was also right there and said they would not accept the coupon. Too bad Office Depot is not closer to where I live, just Staples. Cleveland, OH. I was just to mad at that point and really should have used the coupon on ink…I of course need that now…oh well, next time! Thanks for all the posts/deals!
@Charlene, thanks! Well, wish me luck, I am off to staples to try to get this deal, Office Depot is close by too so….!!!
Wow, this must be my lucky day! I called and spoke to a Staples manager before driving over; he said they “sometimes” take competitor’s coupons. I told him exactly what I wanted to buy, where the coupon was from, how much it was worth, and also that this item was eligible for a rebate. He said, “Sure, we’ll honor it.” (I made a note of his name.) When I arrived, I told the checker (who was also a manager) that manager Kyle had approved the coupon, and he took it with no problem. He even congratulated me on getting such a good deal. And this is the best part: I don’t know why, but after the rebate, this deal is a money maker for me ($1.34 profit). The checker/manager even laughed out loud and said, “Staples just paid you to take this home. Congratulations.” Couldn’t have been a more positive experience. But I think I just lucked out. (BTW, the Staples in is San Ramon, CA). Thank you, Charlene! This made my day!
I just called our local Staples and they stated I could use the 40% off coupon, but would not be able to get the rebate. They stated I would have to do one or the either. Bummer. π
When we went to staples in ukiah ca. they said that we couldn’t use the coupon because it for the wrong store. π
I went into staples today and used the coupon no problem! just had to explain to the cashier how to do the math to figure 40% off of the price. Thanks for posting this deal! I will be sharing paper with my teacher friends.
I am brand-new at “couponing” so I called my nearest Staples to see if they would take the coupon and they said yes. When I got there, they said it wouldn’t work combined with any other offer or promotion (as stated in fine print at the bottom of the coupon), so I had to choose 1 or the other. I ended up just using the rebate since I saved $2 extra that way. Next time, I’ll read all the comments for a special deal so I know how to word my requests when I call ahead to the store.
Audrey- I don’t really see how they can prevent you from getting the rebate. I personally think they are trying to be difficult. If you just walked in and bought the paper and handed them the coupon it probably would have been fine since the rebate prints on the bottom of the receipt. Would they have torn your receipt up to prevent you from getting the rebate? Now that would absolutely shock me. I don’t understand how these stores can be so different.
The checker used the excuse that she didn’t “know how” to make the computer accept both deals. She said if I could give her step-by-step directions, she might be able to try it. I had no clue what to tell her so I just let it go. Her attitude was similar to what Ashley encountered… like I was taking the money directly from her.
No dice here. The little snot-nosed manager (venting) said I couldn’t combine promotions. I also had an Avery binder that was on 100% rebate, couldn’t use it on that either. So, I bought the binder anyways and used one of my two 40% coupons on a $3 dry erase board. I then took my second 40% off to Office Depot where I also took some ink cartridges to recycle. I will get the case of paper for about $5 after the rebate. Unfortunately, the ink leaded all over a new sweater. Luckily, it was one of the BOGO ones from Old Navy. I will just count that as a freebie, so I still came out on top. π
Oops, *leaked* on my sweater!
There’s a Staples right across from me, so I tried to take the coupon and use it for the rebate, but the manager graciously said that I could use the coupon, but not on the rebate items. He said that he’s had some bad experiences with people trying to return products and get money out of these deals. Since the coupon said that it couldn’t be combined with other offers, i completely understand. I think this deal will vary greatly from store to store. I still got a good deal on some paper, and was very impressed with the graciousness of the employees.
I called ahead before I went. The first store I called said no to Internet printable coupons. The second said it was fine. No problems with the rebate. I submitted for a check instead of the VISA card.
I am so glad to get this. I am a teacher at a TITLE I charter school and our resources are extremely tight. We run out of paper every month so now I have backup! YAY!
