Safeway Deals 1/12-1/18

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

You can see Safeway’s coupon policy right here. Most stores will allow you to stack a manufacturer coupon with the store coupons that can be found in the weekly circulars. You will want to be sure to get a club card for Safeway to take advantage of the sale prices! Safeway sale prices tend to vary from region to region so you will always want to double check your local ad! Also, I do not have double coupons in my area so your prices are likely much better than mine!

NOTE: There is supposed to be a catalina printing for $5 when you buy 3 Hallmark Greeting Cards. The .99 ones will not count but some people are getting these when they buy the $1.49 cards. Keep in mind every time they run a Hallmark cards cat there are some people that just don’t get the catalina coupon. I don’t know which areas this is working in so you just have to cross your fingers and return the cards if it doesn’t print.

What great deals did you find this week?

I haven’t checked my store yet but I happened upon another blog that mentioned there is a $5 cat printing for every 3 hallmark cards (excluding .99 cent ones) right now and supposedly goes until Feb. 18th.

Bree- the is listed at the bottom of the post.

oops-I checked the list but must have looked past the note.

My ALbertsons had free coupons books stacked at the register that had a manufacturers coupon for $1 off 2 nabisco hundred calorie packs. If you stack that with the in-ad Vons coupons that makes it a pretty good deal.

JUST U is driving me nuts! My free eggs and 38 cents bananas did not apply so I had to go to Customer service. Last time the granola bar deal did not work out for me either with Just U.

  6. Charlene says

    01/12/2011 at 10:11 AM

Sandy the bananas worked for me but not the eggs. I called them when I left and they credited me $3 inconvenience fee plus told me to take my receipt to customer service for a refund on the eggs. They sort of gave me a hard time for not addressing it in the store and I shut that down immediately. My store had 10 people deep in every line and I was ready to run screaming from the store. Anyway, they were pretty nice about it.

I shopped at Safeway on Sunday night, for the first time in a while… I got my free eggs and cheap bananas no problem. I guess that is pretty good… Lol. So I saw the ad yesterday and was wondering… I have the special U pricing on ground beef 80% of 1.99 a pound… So does that mean I can get it 1.99 a pound AND B1G1?? I’m thinking it does so I might have to go stock up… Also the 20 oz of ground turkey for 2.49 has me pretty excited too.

  8. Charlene says

    01/12/2011 at 10:43 AM

Ohh Stephanie- test it first but it DID work for me. Our freezer is crammed with ground beef because .99 was just a plain steal 🙂 I did the transaction a few times and that is really the genius to Just 4 U. When you have a hot personal price and they offer a BOGO.

LOVE the new format! It is very helpful to have items broken into categories.
I don’t normally buy ground turkey but have been thinking of integrating it into my meals (especially since my Deceptively Delicious books call for it). Is $2.498/20 oz a good deal? What is your normal stock up price?

  10. Jill says

    01/12/2011 at 11:18 AM

    Two things:

I tried to print the Stouffer’s coupon and got this message: “There are no prints available for this campaign.” I sent them a message and will see what they say – has anyone else had this happen?

Charlene, I clicked a bunch of items but when I went to print my shopping list only two of my items showed up.

  11. Charlene says

    01/12/2011 at 11:29 AM

Shoot I just upgraded to the newest version and that was supposed to correct the problem. I will have to trouble shoot this later Jill- I see what you mean.

  12. Amy says

    01/12/2011 at 2:38 PM

I was just going to ask you about the ground beef too. I cannot wait to see if it works for me too!!!!

Also, lovin’ the new format broken down into categories. MUCH easier to sort through. Thanks, Charlene!!

Is the Kellogg’s milk catalina still running?

  14. Charlene says

    01/12/2011 at 4:33 PM

No Julianne 🙁 I had the catalina and I checked back on my notes and it ended yesterday. I still have BOGO coupons too but I was just too busy to get to Safeway yesterday. I hope it comes back!

After watching Food Inc., we can no longer buy “regular” meat of any kind. 🙁 We now buy organic beef at Costco which runs $4/lb. I might concede on the ground turkey though. Thanks for posting more organic/natural deals! I bought the Alexia Sweet Potato fries at Target today at 1.16/bag after coupon. I think I usually pay $3-4/bag at Safeway.

  16. Charlene says

    01/12/2011 at 9:35 PM

Oh yikes Rachel. I haven’t seen it but I will tell you that-lemmee see- about 17 years ago I saw awful videos when I volunteered at the SPCA and I haven’t touched any meat since.

  17. Charlene says

    01/12/2011 at 10:04 PM

Laura- I don’t really have a buy price because I almost never buy it. I am thinking this is a good deal though.

  18. Jessica says

    01/12/2011 at 10:36 PM

Laura, I just bought ground turkey yesterday to use in our spaghetti last night. It was on sale $3.99/20 oz at my Fred Meyers, but then the packages had $1/1 peelies on them, so look for those. I have a 7 year old and 4 year, I thought for sure they would notice the difference because I’ve always used ground beef. They didn’t say a thing!!

  19. kate says

    01/12/2011 at 11:12 PM

I never use ground beef anymore, turkey, or nothing. And for me, in San Diego, $2.49 is a great price, usually runs $4.99 ish for 20 oz here.

  20. Angela says

    01/13/2011 at 9:31 AM

Wait?! Some of you have ground beef in your J4U for 1.99?? Darn it I’m not seeing this. Was it under personalized deals?

And, FYI, did the Hallmark thing the other day in Roseville. Bought 3 1.99 cards (made sure they all said “expressions by hallmark”) and got 5.00 cat.

Just got back from Safeway. Spent too much time there trying to figure out the .38 cent bananas. I had bought 10 pounds so they had to be put into 2 bags, the clerk didn’t scan it all together. So one bag was .38 and the the other bag was .68. They sure mean one time only. 🙂 I took it to the manager and was refunded the difference. I also had loaded my personal price for bologna at 1.90. Bought 5 bologna adn expected to get $5 off because that is the special buy 5 get 5. Anyway with a lot of figuring it turns out the all beef bologna is not in the personalized price of 1.90. I was refunded and able to buy the reg. for 1.90 each and got 5 off. So they were .90 each. Great deal! I was patient and so was the manager.

I just got back from Safeway (in Pleasanton) and there were $1 off 2 peelies on the Nabisco 100 Calorie packs, which makes each of them $1.19 which seemed pretty good to me.

    Christina,
I’m just heading over to Safeway at Valley/SR now. How fun to know I have a coupon pal in P-town! Have a great weekend and for the tip about the Nabisco peelies! 🙂

I just got back from Safeway and did the Hallmark card catalina. I was able to do the 3 card get $5 catalina and get the teddy bear for free. Thought I would share that you can stack them and I bought $1.49 cards too(hopefully I am using the right terms).

    hi charlene,
just wanted to let you know that my safeway in roseville had some superbowl party coupon booklets tonight at customer service. there were both safeway coupons and mfg coupons as well.

There is a new coupon book with football-related theme available at my store. I was able to stack the in-ad Sargento coupon with one from the coupon book and get Sargento sliced cheese for 3.00 a pound (1.50 per package). There is also one for buy four Refreshe 2 liter bottles and save 1.00. They are on sale right now buy four and they are .75 each, so I got them for .50 per bottle with coupon.

I was at Safeway in Denver today (Saturday) and the tillapia 2 pounds was still $5, I think the tag said through Sunday. I also stumbled onto an awesome deal on Hebrew National hotdogs. The 24 pack was on sale for $5.99! I picked up 2, but they range up at regular price ($13). I went to customer service and they refunded the total amount due to the computer glitch! Needless to say, I think I’m stocked up on hotdogs for the summer!

Random question… Does anyone else have problems with items ringing up wrong at Safeway? I shop at Tom Thumb and EVERY week I have to stop at customer service to get cash back. I typically shop at 2 stores, but it’s a problem at both, so just wondering if it is for everyone else too??

I was trying to get the milk catalina on the last night of the deal, and it didn’t print. I went to customer service and asked, and the clerk there told me that Catalinas just come out at random. I told him, “Well, some do and some don’t! I was doing a deal, and it didn’t come out!”
And that was the end of that. He wasn’t going to help me. It’s a very unfriendly store, though, anyway.

  32. Charlene says

    01/17/2011 at 6:03 PM

Katherine that is funny 🙂 There were signs everywhere. Can you imagine if you just randomly got catalina coupons for $1 or $5? We’d all be shopping daily! Just email catalina with the info off your receipt and they can mail it to you:

coupon at catalinamarketing.com. They need the register, store #, date, time, your mailing address etc…

So I just signed up for the Just for U, and I looked on the coupon page for my free eggs and it isn’t there. Now what? And I guess I have a dumb question even after I read your other post about this program. Can I use manf. coupons on top of the coupons I just loaded on my card? The reason I ask is I printed .40 coupon on pillsbury breads and there is also .40 coupon on just for u. If I can stack them that makes a pretty good deal for me. Thanks for all the help.
