You can see Safeway’s coupon policy right here. Most stores will allow you to stack a manufacturer coupon with the store coupons that can be found in the weekly circulars. You will want to be sure to get a club card for Safeway to take advantage of the sale prices! Safeway sale prices tend to vary from region to region so you will always want to double check your local ad! Also, I do not have double coupons in my area so your prices are likely much better than mine!

Be sure to read about the new Just for U program rolling out at Safeway!

Do you know if everyone on the Just For U program get the same deals?

  2. Charlene says

    01/26/2011 at 12:35 AM

No the deals are different for everyone, with the exception of the ones they feature in the ad.

I am frustrated with Safeway lately. It seems like I am spending more time at customer service than shopping! Every trip I find that some coupon didn’t get deducted or my “just for u” price/coupons didn’t register either…not all but some. I’ve contacted customer service and they are kind-gave me a $10 credit when I mentioned I had missed out on $11 in savings. It is just a hassle to have to scour my receipt and try to decipher it!

I also don’t like the limits they put on things. One great thing was the .99/lb ground beef last time (my price 1.99 then bogo). I’ll have to take the good with the bad, but I wouldn’t even be shopping there at all if it weren’t for you Charlene and your “third child”! Tell your hubby thanks for letting you put in the time for us all!

I totally hear ya Jaime! I am sick of it too. You know it makes me livid to have my time wasted and the day I sat there for 17 minutes I was fuming. They shorted me $10 and to waste all that time on top of that was unacceptable to me. But I don’t see any other choice for the time being. I see the people shopping at Kroger and Publix and just killing it every week and it makes me sadder. I wish Target would expand the groceries even more. That is one my bright spot every week 😉

That’s funny that you mention others who are killing it at Kroger and Publix, because I feel that way when you get those great deals at Target. They declined to let a Target go in where I live. I really wish I could get in on the awesome deals there. Thank you so much for all your time and effort. You have saved my family so much money.

    Charlene ~
I’m glad I’m not the only one envious of the great Kroger and Publix deals! I actually looked for one when one vacation just to see if I could get in on the action 🙂

I purchased the rancher’s reserve london broil and tired to use the $2/1 rancher’s reserve coupon from Joy of Football book but the coupon kept beeping and only took only $.01 off. I purchased four packages at one time and used four coupons. The cashier pushed it through but only took off $1.99 per package. I always have this problem with safeway coupons. Is anyone else having any problems?

  9. Charlene says

    01/26/2011 at 10:06 PM

Sue- I believe that coupon is only once per club card. I really don’t know why and as usual I blame Just for U for all the troubles at Safeway and in my life in general ;P So before- you could use all the coupons you wanted and now I think they are tracking it and after the first coupon it will come off as zero from then on. I am going to try to use a second one this week and we will see what happens. I guess you are really at the mercy of the cashier if you want to try to use more than one because they will need to push it through. Just one more headache from Safeway 🙁

I have seen this with in ad coupons since Just 4 U started. Before you could do multiple transactions with in ad coupons no problem. once the program started at my store once I used the in ad coupon, each subsequent coupon would not come off my bill. Such a bummer.

I have to throw in my comments about Safeway – I’m so frustrated with them and customer service is no help. The Just For U Program is one big attempt to control our use of coupons. The “unlimited” coupons are not unlimited. They work for for one transaction only. My personal prices seem to higher than those of my friends. I’ve been a Safeway shopper for 15 years and am thinking of going somewhere else.

We don’t have Just For U yet (seattle) but I dread it and will probably stop going to Safeway except for good no-coupon produce/meat deals after that. I hate that there is a $10 minimum purchase in order to use ANY of their in-ad coupons, and they just changed it to $10 AFTER all coupons so unless I’m getting a bunch of stuff, I just skip any in-ad coupon deals entirely. Most of their in-ad coupons lately have been ringing up as 0.01 and have to have the price manually adjusted. I shopped at 7:30a the other day, got a bunch of stuff to use an in-ad coupon, had it not come off, figured out that it was because my total was $9.20 after coupons (this $10 after coupons is new, used to be $10 before coupons). I had to leave and come back at 8am when the customer service opened in order to return everything (a MAJOR hassle since I used a bunch of coupons…which were in the checker’s drawer…add another item to make it over $10, and have them manually enter in all the coupon amounts….WHILE the customer service lady was training this kid on my insane transaction. They were all very nice (they usually are) but I’m sick of all the restrictions.

The rancher’s reserve was working well for me. They did have to manually enter the $2 but so many coupons they end up having to do that for, it’s no big deal to the cashiers. Each one does have to be a separate transaction. I have a bunch of books and the coupons are good through next month so going to be picking up 2-3 each week to give nearly free beef to my friend who just lost her job. Just finished up getting free produce from the books that were out recently that had $1 off produce with a $5 minimum. I would do small transactions and about $1 worth of some produce….been doing those for 3 weeks. I think I have 2 coupons left to use up in the next couple days. These kind of deals are really the only things I do at Safeway anymore, besides picking up their coupon books to use at other stores!. I have Albertson’s all over and doublers almost every week so that and Rite Aid are my main shopping venues.

I just got home from a quick run to Safeway. Wanted to mention that I found some Classico Sauce with peelies on them for $1.00 off of 2 jars. They are $1.69 Fri-Sun so that’s a pretty good deal….$1.19 a jar after coupon. Also, I found some peelies on the Gordon Biersh Beer….$2.00 off any pizza when buying a 12 pack of the beer (which is a great price of $9.99 Fri-Sun). After looking at my receipt, the coupon actually came off for $3.00-even better!

Jen- another reader said she got a surprise cat from Classico. She bought several jars and got $1 back so I don’t know how many you have to buy to trigger it. I can’t seem to find details on it but you might get an even better deal.

    Charlene,
In the mail from Safeway, I received a card with coupons for free items. It has a coupon for free safeway rice, free safeway frozen vegetables, free safeway select marinade, free mission tortillas, free safeway select salsa, $1 off mission tortilla chips, $1 off fresh express salad blends, free safeway select salad dressing, $.50 off safeway select artisan baguettes, and $4off safeway frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts (4lb bag). They all say have to have a minimum $10 purchase. Do you think I can use all of these coupons in one transaction as long as I buy $10 worth of stuff? Or is it 1 coupon for every $10 I spend? HELP!

    01/29/2011 at 12:37 PM

When you see the in-store coupoons, it is a $10 order, not $10 per coupon. I suspect it would be the same with the coupon that were mailed to you. I would LOVE to get those coupons!

I also had a problem using the coupons from “their” coupon book on their products. I bought 6 of the Safeway pizzas and used the 1.00 off coupons (making them 1.99 each) and as usual after my transaction was too much I had to study my receipt and none of the coupons came off. I don’t understand it. I have made my complaints to the managers many times and while they are sympathetic there isn’t much they can do except refund my money, which happens almost weekly. I would love to shop somewhere else but don’t have another store (like Albertsons, Kroger or Publix) that has as many great deals. Ugh!!!

I got the cat back with the Classico pasta sauce as well–it is working so that you get $1 when you buy three or four–I’m not sure which, but it didn’t work when I bought only two. There are $1 off any Classico sauce peelies on the Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Rotini at Walmart–so this makes the sauce $0.44 each.

@Sara – I get those coupons every once in a while. I have had no problem using all of them at once – I think it’s the same as the in-ad coupons: $10 min purchase qualifies you for all coupons.
🙂 Just make sure they all ring up correctly…
